Girls Varsity Tennis vs. Multiple Opponents

The GRC Varsity girls tennis team took on two top 5 opponents in Division 2 and Division 3 tennis on Saturday. They played Mattawan from Division 2 and Bloomfield Hill Marian from Division 3. The Eagles played both teams competively and played some great tennis. They came up just short against Mattawan losing 3-5 and lost to Marian 2-6. Here are the final results:
Against Mattawan:
1S Natalie Poortenga loss 2-6, 4-6. Her opponent is one of the top 1 singles player in division 2 and Nat played her really tough!
2S Alex Vermeulen loss 4-6, 4-6.
3s Kaitlyn Schmitt wins 6-2, 6-2. Kaitlyn played some dominated tennis on Saturday. The only player on the day to win both of her matches.
4s Avah Jerke wins 4-6, 6-3.11-9. Avah showed a lot of guts to come back and clutch up in a close match! Nice job A1!
1d Frankie Volkema/Anna Jacobsen loss 1-6, 0-6.
2d Betta Klein/Gwyn Artz loss 0-6, 3-6.
3d Rachel Larsen/Lucy VanDrunen loss 1-6, 3-6.
4d Charline Dahu/Anneka Vermeulen wins 2-6, 6-4, 10-7. Also a great comeback win and this team is tiebreak queens as they have not lost a tiebreak yet this year.
5d Adelyn Breuninger/Anwen Amash wins 1-6, 6-1, 10-6.
6d Johanna Bos/Jori Koons loss 6-3, 6-7. 8-10
Against Marian:
1S Natalie Poortenga wins 6-2, 6-4.
2S Alex Vermeulen loss 3-6, 4-6. A really good opponent that Alex went toe to toe with and played some really good points.
3s Kaitlyn Schmitt wins 6-2, 6-2.
4s Avah Jerke loss 2-6, 2-6.
1d Frankie Volkema/Anna Jacobsen loss 2-6, 0-6. Some of the best tennis they have played. This was a really good team and they had a lot of close games.
2d Betta Klein/Gwyn Artz loss 3-6, 0-6.
3d Rachel Larsen/Lucy VanDrunen loss 1-6, 1-6.
4d Charline Dahu/Anneka Vermeulen loss 6-4, 3-6, 2-6. A great showing on the day for these two taking at least a set in both matches.
5d Adelyn Breuninger/Anwen Amash loss 4-6, 4-6.
6d Johanna Bos/Jori Koons wins 1-6, 6-4, 10-8.
Props were given to 5th and 6th doubles. They both had matches where they lost a not so close 1st set and perservered to fight back and adjust to go on to win a match. That takes a lot of courage and strength!
The Eagles play their lost dual conference match of the season at Lowell today at 4:15pm. Go Eagles!
