Varsity volleyball falls to East side opponenents

On Saturday the Eagles varsity volleyball team played in a quad with Byron Center, Marian and Mercy. They played two best of 5 matches against Mercy and Marian. The first match against Mercy was a 5 set thriller. The Eagles started the match dominating play and won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-23. The third set Mercy pushed back not willing to go down in 3 sets and pulled out the win 25-22. The fourth set was a back and forth fight with the Eagles falling just short 25-27. The fifth and final set Mercy had the momentum and beat the Eagles 15-12. Mercy is undefeated and ranked #1 in Division1. Stat leaders for the match were Addie VanderWeide with 31 kills, 1 ace, 25 digs and 1 assist, Evie Doezema with 19 kills and 1 dig, Alyssa DeVries with 54 assists, 1 ace, 14 digs and 1.5 blocks, Lauren Peal with 20 digs, 7 assists, and 2 kills, Liz Rupp with 18 digs and 1 ace, Kate Breems with 5 kills and Stephanie Stewart with 2.5 blocks, 4 kills and 10 digs.
The second match of the day the Eagles played Marian and fell to them in 3 straight sets. The scores were 24-26,22-25 and 16-25. Stat leaders for the match were Addie VanderWeide with 21 kills and 9 digs, Evie Doezema with 9 kills and 5 digs, Lauren Peal and Liz Rupp with 12 digs a piece, Alyssa DeVries with 34 assists, 1 block and 7 digs, Stephanie Stewart with 6 kills, 1 block and 3 digs, Abby Ames with 5 digs and Emerson Williams with 4 digs.
The Eagles are now 18-2 and will begin conference tournament play next Tuesday at home at 6:00,
