The Eagles had an outstanding performance at the Beast of the East tournament on Saturday, going 6-1 for the day and placing 2nd out of 32 teams.  Beast of the East is the toughest tournament of the year in Michigan, featuring the top ranked teams in the state, including, from Division 1, #1 ranked Marian, #2 ranked Dakota, #4 Rockford, #7 Mercy, #8 Forest Hills Northern, #10 Novi, and from Division 2: #1 ranked Notre Dame Prep, #3 ranked GR Christian, #4 North Branch, #5 Lakewood, and #7 Cadillac.

The Eagles had strong overall play, including solid serve receive passing and aggressive serving.  The team did not drop a set until the loss to Marian in the finals.

The pool play saw the Eagles earn victories over Oxford, Grosse Pointe South and Coopersville.  The team continued with a win over Lakeland in the first round of the Gold Division Tournament, followed by a come from behind victory over Bloomfield Hills in the quarterfinals.

The semi-finals saw the Eagles playing Mercy, who defeated Notre Dame Prep in the quarterfinals.  The Eagles came out fast with an early lead, winning the first set 25-17.  The second set started out a little closer, but the Eagles pushed through to win decisively 25-13.

The finals had the Eagles playing Marian, in a match of last year's Division 1 State Champion (Marian) and  last year's Division 2 Champion (GRC).  The teams battled in the first set as the score went back and forth and tied at 19-19, before Marian pulled away.  The Eagles played hard in the second set, but fell short, and came in as the tournament runner-up.

Overall, the Eagles had great performances from all and are looking forward to the Conference Tournament this week and next week.
