In a fun showdown at Grand Rapids Christian's gym, the Eagles triumphed over their rivals, East Grand Rapids High, securing a 3-1 victory on Senior Night. The match celebrated the contributions of four outstanding seniors: Alayna McGowan, Madi Peal, Keira Porte, and Lucy VanDrunen.
The Eagles set the tone early, dominating the first set with a decisive win of 25-11. East Grand Rapids responded, taking the second set 25-19 and momentarily shifting momentum in their favor.
Refocusing their efforts, Grand Rapids Christian rebounded impressively in the third and fourth sets, winning with scores of 25-15 and 25-18 keeping the Pioneers under 20 points. The team’s defensive ability was evident, as they registered a total of 9 blocks, significantly stifling the EGR offense. Keira Porte stood out as a defensive powerhouse, leading with 4 blocks.
The Eagles' defense didn't stop there; they racked up an impressive 54 digs, with Madi Peal leading the charge at the backline with 2, demonstrating her crucial role in the shift in momentum she maintained a solid set average of 5.3 digs.
On the offensive front, Taylor Frost orchestrated the Eagle attack with 24 assists, she also contributed 3 aces, bringing her season total to an impressive 81 aces. Grace Goodyke was another force, contributing 18 kills. Mya Mckinnen also made her presence felt, adding 8 kills and an impressive hitting percentage of .400 along with Lucy VanDrunen with 7 kills to add to the total.
This victory not only highlighted the talents of the current team but also served as a fitting farewell in the Quest Center to the graduating seniors.
