Eagles Battle Back in Competitive Match Against Portage Northern

The GRC Eagles returned from spring break ready to compete, opening the week with a hard-fought game against the Portage Northern Huskies. Although the Eagles ultimately faced defeat, the matchup was filled with standout performances and promising moments for the team.

The first quarter was a defensive showdown, with the Eagles holding the Huskies to just one goal while remaining scoreless. This defensive grit set the tone for the rest of the game, with goalkeeper Glory Afolabi leading the charge. Afolabi recorded an impressive 10 saves and allowed only 6 goals total—another great performance this season.

In the second quarter, the Eagles got on the board thanks to a goal from Grace Kelder, but the Huskies responded with three goals of their own, putting the Eagles down by three at halftime.

Undeterred, the Eagles came out strong in the second half. Their resilience showed as they clawed their way back into the game. Piper Slagboom and Esther Kissinger each added a goal, while Kelder netted her second of the night, bringing the game within one. The defense continued to dominate, shutting out the Huskies entirely in the fourth quarter—a testament to the team's determination and discipline.
