FOREST HILLS NORTHERN HIGH: 64.00

On a wonderful fall evening, the Eagles traveled to Forest Hills Northern, looking to play the spoiler on the Husky homecoming festivities. Our small but determined and scrappy GRC team fought hard, but ultimately came up short by a score of 34-64.

The Eagle offense came out strong for the second week in a row, taking things to new heights this week as they were able to put the ball in the end zone on each of their first three drives, and 4 of 5 possessions in the first half. However, the host Huskies were able to keep pace by scoring three of their own first half touchdowns. The Block C Boys took a 27-21 lead into the locker room at halftime but were unable to match FHN down the stretch as the host's rushing attack proved too much for GR Christian to slow down. When the dust settled, a battered, bruised, and out-manned Eagle team had simply run out of gas against a physical and relentless opponent.

The high-flying offensive performance was started off by senior Malachi Hooser who scored the first GRC touchdown on a beautiful 53-yard strike from QB Zay Caviness. Not to be left out, senior Jude Klunder kept it going on the following drive with a 5-yard screen pass from Caviness. Tired of watching his friends have all the fun, Caviness capped off the ensuing drive with an 8 yard TD scamper of his own. The Eagles secured the halftime lead with an amazing 16-yard moment of brilliance from Klunder, who snagged a Caviness pass while blanketed in double coverage with under a minute left in the second quarter. The second half saw continued strong play from the Eagle passing game and an electric 75-yard touchdown run from senior DeWayne Goree. Junior Aaron Gholston also chipped in 5 catches for the Eagles.

The "Block C Defense" was led by Goree's 11 tackles; he was aided by 6 tackles a piece from Gholston, Caviness, and junior Ben Toly.

With most of the boys playing on both sides of the ball, everything that we do truly is a team effort. We are proud of the continued effort, resilience, and strength of this group of players as they fight to represent the GRC community with passion and class. The Eagles welcome Northview HS to Eagle Stadium next week for a homecoming game showdown. Go Eagles!
