The Eagles entered Red Hawk Stadium hoping to set the tone from the opening kickoff. Behind the
running of Tony Phillips and the connection through the air between Charlie King and TD Davis,
GRC kept the ball for almost 6 minutes and drove 85 yards down the field until Phillips
scampered in from 19 yards out on a third and two play. Eastern answered with a touchdown
drive of their own and the game was looking like a shootout.
Sadly, the Eagles other three drives of the first half, featuring stellar play by the whole unit
moved the ball but two drives ended in fumbles deep in Red Hawk territory as GRC players
were fighting for yardage and the third ended as the clock went to 0:00 for halftime with the
Eagles knocking on the door at the 5-yard line. FHE turned two of those around for touchdowns
and the halftime score was 22-6 in favor of FHE.
The second half featured team and individual effort by the Eagles but the offense and defense
could not string enough plays together to fight back onto the scoreboard and the final score
was 51-6 in favor of the Red Hawks.
Senior Tony Phillips led the ground attack with 14 carries for 90 yards and the Eagles
touchdown. The air attack was led by two seniors, Aaron Gholston with 5 catches and TD Davis
with 4. Defensively, junior Ty Damstra led the way with 6 tackles, supported by 4 each from
juniors Will Hausig and Davis Hutt.
The Eagles look to bounce back this coming Friday as GRC welcomes the West Catholic Falcons
to Eagle Stadium for an OK White conference matchup. Roll Eagles!
