GRC played a tough game against a solid opponent on a beautiful night at Eagle Stadium.
The Eagles got on the board first on a 10-yard scamper by Tony Phillips through a gaping hole
carved by the O-line of Fitzgibbon, Pugh, Hutt, Morgan, and Moore. West Catholic answered
with a TD drive of their own on their next possession. The Eagles next drive stalled and the
Falcons responded with a TD pass to make the score 14-7 West Catholic. GRC responded by
driving down the field until a fumble gave the ball back to WC. After the sudden change, WC
was able to work the ball down the field for another score with 2:14 left in the first half. The
Eagles took the field and dug deep to execute a beautiful 2-minute drive before QB Charlie King
avoided some pressure, rolled to his left, and found TD Davis between two Falcon defenders in
the front corner of the endzone for a 24 yard TD with just 6 seconds on the clock. The XP hit the
upright and the halftime score was 21-13 in favor of the Falcons.
WC took the second half kickoff and was forced to punt after great pressure on QB three plays
in a row – twice by Dane Fitzgibbon and third down by Caleb Pugh with a diving pass breakup
on the same play by TD Davis. The Eagles looked to capitalize on the stop but an interception by
WC deep in Eagle territory led to another Falcon score. GRC kept battling and scrapping but just
couldn’t quite pay off drives with scores. West Catholic got one more score early in the fourth
quarter and that was the end of the scoring on the night. Final score Eagles 13, Falcons 35.
On the day, Charlie King was 18 of 29 for 149 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. His favorite targets were TD
Davis with 8 catches for 76 yds and a TD and Brandt Alles with 4 catches – 2 of which were for
4 th down conversions. Tony Phillips carried the load in the backfield with 14 carries for 74 yards
and the other Eagle TD. Will Owens led the team with 7 solo tackles and Ty Damstra added 3
solo and 3 assists to pace the defense.
The Eagles take a road trip down to Hamilton High school next Friday to take on the Hawkeyes.
