Varsity Eagles beat Forest Hills Central 7-4

The Eagles, co-op hockey team led by Danny Groszkiewicz’s hat trick, played in a barnburner last night against crosstown rival Forest Hills Central.  The team seemed out of sorts in the first two periods, giving up a goal in the first and then being down 4-1 at the end of the second. Josh VanSchepen scored the teams only goal of the second period on the power play, assisted by Colton Laufer and Josh Hooper.  In the third period the team scored 4 goals in two minutes and 6 seconds. First Jack Micus scored on a 4 on 3 powerplay assisted by Groszkiewicz and Hooper. Then Groszkiewicz scored another powerplay goal beating the goalie five hole with assists going to Josh VanSchepen and goalie Braden Melinn. 13 seconds later Colin Peal scored from the blue line. Brendan Farmer and Nolan Rinehart drew assists.  18 seconds after that goal Laufer scored on a rebound with assists going to Josh VanSchepen and Groszkiewicz.  Groszkiewicz scored off a neutral zone turnover forced by Hooper who assisted on the play, and then scored again to finish off the hat trick on the open net with a minute and a half to go in the game. Spencer Burg assisted on the goal. Brayden Melinn got the win with 24 saves as the Eagles Coop team moved to 1-0 in the league.   The team travels to Sault Saint Marie this weekend for two non-conference games.
