The Eagles hockey team won their first game of the season, beating the Plymouth Wildcats 4-2 in an early game at Eagles Ice Center.
Plymouth came out with a lot of jump in the first period, hemming down the Eagles for the first 5 to 6 minutes of the game in their own zone. In their second shift, they scored to go up 1-0. The Eagles responded on their first power-play of the game, with Brody Baysore scoring on a nice back door pass from Drew Bierlein. Grahm Behen also assisted on the goal. Four minutes later, Constantine Kim scored his first goal of his high school career with assist going to Baysore and Josh Hooper.
In the second period, the Eagles' special teams kept going and Drew Bierlein scored his first high school goal of his career with a deflection of a nice pass from Hooper. Cam Laufer also assisted on the play. Five minutes to go in second period Bierlein scored a shorthanded goal with assist going to Laufer.
The third period, Plymouth scored 30 seconds in, but there were no goals the rest of the way as Brayden Melinn played solid in net from start to finish, stopping 29 of the 31 shots against including a free breakaways and the Eagles hung on for the win. Thanks to all of the high school students who came out to fill the cheering section at the arena.
Their next home game is Tuesday at 3:30 at Eagles Ice Center immediately after school. We hope to see you there.
