Your Eagles hockey team gave their grittiest effort of the season last night beating Caledonia 4-1 in the game that was much closer than what the score indicates. 

The first period ended with no scoring, with each team getting multiple chances to take the lead.  In the second, Cam Laufer put the Eagles ahead with a wraparound goal. Brody Baysore assisted on the goal. 

In the third, Caledonia scored on a 2 on 1 with 6 minutes to go in the game. Towards the end of the third, with the game tied, Sam DeYoung hit Cash Laufer on a stretch pass for a breakaway. Cash was taken down as he got the shot off, which found its way into the net as they crashed into the goalie with a minute and 22 seconds to go in the game. After a Caledonia timeout, there was a scrum on the boards in the neutral zone, Josh Hooper read the play, and sent Baysore in on a breakaway and he made no mistake, beating the goalie right where grandma keeps the cookie jar, top shelf.  Baysore added an open net goal 21 seconds later winning the race to a loose puck making the final score 4-1. 

Brayden Melinn was like a brick wall throughout the game, making multiple huge saves. Highlighted by 22 saves in the second period alone. He finished the game with 45 saves.  This was the hockey teams last game of 2024. They head to Manistique and Escanaba in the beginning of January.
