The JV Eagles went to Forest Hills Central yesterday with a full strength team anticipating a very difficult match. The game started a little slow for the Eagles with not a lot of movement in the midfield. The momentum began to switch in their favor early on in the game, with keeper Alex Nelson sending a dime of a ball from his own box into the path of sophomore winger Andrew Brink who one-time volleyed the ball expertly into the side netting giving the Eagles a 1-0 advantage. Five minutes later freshman Noah Petersen whipped in a very dangerous corner that was cleared out by a Forest Hills defender right in to the path of midfielder Will Gruennert who sent an absolute belter of a volley into the top left corner giving the Eagles a firm grip on the game making it 2-0.
Twenty minutes into the game, forward Noah Petersen won a free-kick in a very dangerous area which he placed beautifully into the bottom left corner where the keeper had no chance giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead. The game continued to progress and defenders Jacob Brink, Tyler Wolters, Nolan Koetje, Wyatt Baweja, and Jayden Green worked very hard to keep the Rangers at bay.
The second half started and the Eagles started very aggressively with a lot of confidence, taking full control of the midfield. Some very good build-up play lead to Noah Petersen playing Andrew Brink through on goal, but Andrew poked the ball just wide of the post. Key players in this half were Moses Hapner, Simon Borst, Max Rodwell, and Gerrit Boer who showed incredible skill to dominate the Forest Hills Central midfield. With five minutes to go Andrew Brink received the ball on the left and easily beat his defender to whip the ball across the face of the goal where sophomore Becket Nieuwenhuis slotted it for Gerrit Boer to tap in and end the game with a 0-4 away victory. Freshman goalkeeper Soren Mayer played the entire second half and helped maintain the clean sheet for the team.
The Eagles will look to do the same against Forest Hills Eastern on Tuesday where they will seek to continue their amazing unbeaten and clean sheet streaks this season.
