The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles traveled away to the Ottawa Hills Bengals for an afternoon rematch on a hot September day. The Eagles started the scoring when Moses Hapner found his first goal of the season when he tucked a rebound away early in the first half. His goal was followed up by Andrew Brink who extended the Eagle's lead to 2-0. Late in the first half, Wyatt Baweja earned his second goal of the season by skillfully tucking the ball under the goalie on a through ball. The Eagles headed into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
The Eagles came out hot in the second half and peppered the Bengals defense with chances, including numerous corner kicks and shots on target. The Bengals defense and goalie held strong until Gerrit Boer was able to decisively strike the ball into the goal after some confusion inside the box. Gerrit would find his second of the day shortly after, making it 5-0 and ensuring a strong victory for the Eagles.
The Eagles move to 8-0-2 on the season while continuing their unbeaten streak and post their 10th consecutive shutout with standout performances from goalies Alex Nelson and Soren Mayer as well as defenders Tyler Wolters, Nolan Koetje, Jaden Green, Jacob Brink, Owen VanderWerf, Peter VanWyk, Wyatt Baweja, and Simon Borst. The Eagles are back in action tomorrow night, traveling to Forest Hills Northern for a rematch at 5:15 PM.
