The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles visited the East Grand Rapids Pioneers last night in a rivalry rematch. In their previous meeting, the Eagles and Pioneers were both held scoreless in an entertaining back and forth draw. The Eagles came out fast last night and quickly put the pressure on the Pioneers. A couple close chances for the Eagles but the Pioneers held firm. This was until Moses Hapner received a beautiful ball out wide, attacked the defenders towards the endline and served a cross which found Andrew Brinks who buried the ball in the back of the net. The rest of the first half was back and forth with the Pioneers had a chance that went off the right post. The teams ended the half with the Eagles up by 1.

The Pioneers came out fast and strong in the second half putting pressure on the Eagles early on. Thanks to a strong backline and solid goalkeeping, the Eagles held on and played their way into the second half, creating chances off quick counters and high pressure of the Pioneers' defensive line. Becket Nieuwenhuis laced a ball across the box from the wide area and ultimately Noah Peterson was able to just poke the ball past the goalie while reaching from behind a defender, 2-0 Eagles. Later, Noah Peterson skillfully dribbled past two Pioneers on the endline before being tripped up by a third defender and being awarded a penalty kick. Unfortunately, the Eagles failed to convert. The game ended in a 2-0 victory for the Eagles over the Pioneers.

The Eagles move to 12-0-3 and post their 13th clean sheet of the season, maintaining their undefeated record. The Eagles travel to Grand Rapids Union HS on Thursday for their next game at 4PM.
