In their season opener, the JV girls' faced a tough matchup against South Christian. Despite the loss, there were still many moments to note.
Alexis Willis was a standout for the Eagles, scoring 9 points and pulling down plenty of rebounds. Her presence in the paint helped control the pace for Grand Rapids Christian, especially in the first half when the team struggled to settle into a rhythm. The first-game jitters were evident, but Willis' efforts on both ends of the floor were a bright spot.
Defensively, Adelyn Breuninger and Iris Morgan stepped up in the second half, applying solid pressure on South Christian’s ball handlers and forcing some tough shots. Breuninger's tenacious defense kept the team in the game at times, and Morgan's hustle on both ends didn’t go unnoticed.
Cecilia Morales Blay also made an immediate impact, coming off the bench to score her first career basket—a sweet swoosh that lifted her teammates' spirits and showed the potential for future contributions.
While the Eagles couldn't quite find their rhythm in this opener, they get another chance this Friday away at Wyoming!
