The Eagles JV girls lacrosse team are off to a great 2-0 start after defeating Hudsonville 15-11.

 

After starting the game down by 2, Rylee Anderson scored the Eagle’s first goal and got the team rolling. Eva Lindstrom had a tremendous game in net, making 17 total saves, leading her to a save percentage of an astounding 60% - an incredible stat for a goalie! 

 

The team worked as a unit to defend well throughout the whole game, causing many turnovers. These turnovers led to some amazing ground ball pickups, with Haley Zuidema picking up three ground balls, Sophia DeHoop and Lucy DeBoer getting two, and Neve Winstanley, Myah Alkema, Lulu Ghent and Jordyn VanderZwaag picking up one ground ball each. The girls worked hard to fight for every ground ball, and they were successful! The team also worked hard on the circle, fighting to win the draws. Rylee Anderson secured an impressive 13 draws for the Eagles, helping obtain ball possession right away. Sophia DeHoop secured four, and Hannah Mockabee and Mikayla Wolters secured one. 

 

The game was a thrilling contest. The GRC Eagles and the Hudsonville Eagles battled throughout the whole game and were tied after three quarters. However, the girls decided to give it their all in the  final quarter, and it paid off. At the end of the night, Anderson came away with eight goals, VanderZwaag with three, DeBoer with two, and Esther King and Noive Saiz Pando scored one each. The assists were equally as important, with Dehoop and Vanderzwaag obtaining one each. 

 

The Eagles are looking forward to playing Grandville on Saturday at 9am.
