Varsity Wrestling Ends at Individual District

Eagles Lose: -
The wrestling season ended after no Eagle wrestlers placed in the top four of their weight class Saturday at a very tough Individual District held at Lowell HS.  Freshman John Van Antwerp led the team with one win and two losses.   The wrestlers also lost their team district to Forest Hills Central 0-81.  The Eagles finish the year 6-8 as a team and had several wrestlers place in individual tournaments during the season.

Joey Lukezich led the team with 15 match points as no Eagle wrestlers placed in a very tough OK White Conference Tournament.

Six Eagle wrestlers placed in the Kelloggsville Rocket Tournament on Saturday which resulted in a fifth place team finish.  Junior Luke Selfe placed 2nd and recorded one pin and one 2-0 decision.  Sophomore Josh Kennedy placed second and recorded one pin.  Freshman John VanAntwerp had three pins on the day and finished 3rd.  Sophomore Luis Gomez Martin placed 3rd and had three pins.  Junior Adam Persanaire placed 4th.  Sophomore Zach Clark placed 4th and recorded 2 pins.  
Varsity Wrestling Places 7th at OK White Team Tournament

Cornerstone University hosted the OK White team tournament on Friday night.  A sickness depleted Eagle team competed hard but cam up short in their 2 duals, losing to Byron Center 14-54 and also losing to Northview 24-54.  Josh Kennedy and James Baker led the team by winning both of their individual matches.
Wrestling Travels to Hesperia

The wrestling team made the trip up to Hesperia Wednesday afternoon to compete against Kent City and Hesperia.  The boys wrestled well but came up short in both duals, losing 18-53 to Kent City and 18-60 to Hesperia.  James Baker won both his matches with two first period pins.  Also winning matches were Josh Kennedy, Zach Clark, Isaiah Luk, Luis Gomez-Martin and Peter Hoogewind.

The wrestlers placed 14th out of 16 teams at the Unity Christian Tournament Saturday.  Harry Hilts recorded the fastest Eagle pin of the day with a 40 second pin over his opponent from Unity Christian.

The Eagle wrestlers shut out a small Lee squad 54-0 Thursday night. Josh Kennedy, Joey Lukezich and Armaan Irving all led the team with first period pins.  The wrestlers also lost to Kent City 15-66.  Zach Clark and Luis Gomez-Martin both pinned their opponent.  James Baker won by 8-3 decision.  Isaiah Luk also won his exhibition match by pin.
Varsity Wrestling Places 6th at Fruitport Tournament

Five Eagle wrestlers competed at the Fruitport Legends Tournament and placed 6th out of 9 teams.  Josh Kennedy and Tayvarie Heard both placed third.  Several other Eagle wrestlers went to Godwin Heights JV tournament and did well.  John VanAntwerp placed first, Luis Gomez Martin placed second and Armaan Irving and Isaiah Luk both placed third.

The wrestling team braved the winter weather Thursday night to compete against a tough Greenville team.  While several individual matches were competitive the Eagles fell short as a team and lost 9-64.  Individual winners in the dual were James Baker and Fiona Bergin.  Others winning matches on the night were Avery Bergin, Zach Mulder, and Peter Hoogewind.

The Eagle Wrestlers won a close one against Unity Christian 43-42.  The Eagle's needed the 6th tie breaking criteria (team giving up the fewest number of forfeits) to pull out the win.  They also defeated Wyoming 54-18.  Individual winners on the night were Josh Kennedy, Harry Hilts, Avery Bergin, Luis Gomez Martin, Joey Lukezich, Patrycja Zaba, John VanAntwerp, Armaan Irving, Zach Clark, Peter Hoogewind and Luke Selfe.

The Eagle Wrestlers started Christmas vacation out by beating Allegan 36-33 and JW Sexton 60-24.  They also lost to Portage Central 24-60.

Ten Eagle wrestlers placed on Saturday in the teams second place finish.  Taking second place were Luke Selfe, Armand Arakaza and Will Owens.  Placing third were Harry Hilts, James Baker, Alex Workmann and John VanAntwerp.  Josh Kennedy, Joey Lukezich, and Isaiah Luke all placed fourth.  The Eagles compete next on 12/18 at the Quest Center.
