Two Wrestlers Qualify for Individual Regionals

Eagles Lose: -
The wrestlers competed in a very difficult district at Lowell HS Saturday and two individuals placed fourth which qualifies them for Regionals. Freshman Caleb Pugh (23-8) avenged a loss from one week ago against his opponent from Lowell on his way to a fourth place finish.  Caleb's day started with a pin in the opening round.  In the quarterfinal match, he lost to the eventual third place finisher.  Caleb won his first consolation match by a fall.  Caleb needed to win his next match to advance to Regionals and his next opponent was familiar as Caleb had lost to him a week ago at the OK White conference tournament.  Caleb came out strong and built a 4-0 lead before pinning his opponent from Lowell with 2 seconds remaining in the match. Junior Will Owens (24-9) beat his opponents on their feet, scoring 10 takedowns while only allowing 1.  Will pinned his first round opponent and won by major decision (12-2) in the quarterfinals.  He lost to the eventual champion in the semifinals.  With his back against the wall in the blood round, he secured a 16-1 technical fall to advance to regionals.

The Eagle Wrestlers lost to Wayland at Districts Thursday night.  Caleb Pugh was the lone Eagle winner.  Isaac Sung led the team in takedowns with three.

Three wrestlers took home medals Friday night as the Eagles competed at the OK White Tournament.  Junior Will Owens placed second in his weigh class, losing to a state ranked wrestler from Lowell in the finals.  Sophomore Isaac Sung led the team in takedowns with seven on his way to placing fourth.  Freshman Jayden Wierenga placed third.  Jayden's never give up attitude paid off as he was down 9-1 going into the third period before securing a takedown and pin to win the match.

The Eagle Wrestlers defeated Lee HS 39-6 and Ottawa Hills 47-6. Isaac Sung got the team started in the Lee dual with a takedown late in the match to secure a 6-5 decision.  Will Owens followed up with a win in a match where he scored 2 nearfall as time expired to send the match into a sudden victory period where Will secured the takedown, Shan Rubarose defeated his opponent with at 1:27 fall. Caleb Pugh built a 9-1 lead before pinning his opponent in 4:52.  The dual ended with Caleb Bylsma securing an exciting 11-6 decision over an opponent who defeated him last week.  Jayden Wierenga, Josh Bawi and Will Vanden Berg all received wins via forfeit. Against Ottawa Hills, Jayden Wierenga started the scoring out with a 3:12 fall.  Will Owens dominated his opponent with an 18-3 technical fall.  Shan Rumbarose secured his second fall of the night, defeating his opponent in 1:01.  Josh Bawi, Isaac Sung, Will Vanden Berg, Caleb Pugh and Caleb Bylsma all received forfeits.

The wrestling team placed 8th out of 12 teams in the Rocket Invitational on Saturday.  Freshman Caleb Pugh went 4-0 on his way to the top of the podium, winning a tough heavyweight bracket.  Will Owens and Josh Kennedy both placed second.  Isaac Sung placed third.

The wrestling team squared off against Byron Center and Thornapple Kellogg Wednesday evening.  Byron Center defeated the Eagles 75-6 and Thornapple Kellogg defeated the Eagles 72-8.

After giving Unity 24 points due to forfeits, The Eagle wrestlers fell to Unity Christian 30-48.  Shan Rumbarose started us out with a 1;19 fall.  Jayden Weirenga battled thru his match and secured a fall at 5:56 after being down 7-1 early in the match.  Will Owens pinned his opponent in 4:41.  Caleb Pugh, and Will Vanden Berg also won their matches.

Five Eagle wrestlers made the trip up to Reed City Saturday and placed 19th out of 23 teams. Cameron Morgan led the Eagles with a 2-2 record on the day.

The Eagle Wrestlers lost to Byron Center 78-4 and also lost to Northview 78-6 in the OK White Team Tournament Friday night. Individual winners were Josh Kennedy (14-5 over Byron Center) and Cameron Morgan (4:40 fall over Northview).

Eagles Lose: 15.00 - 51.00
The Eagle wrestlers fell short against a tough Forest Hills Central team.  The dual started out good for the Eagles with a 7-5 decision by Josh Kennedy followed by a 1:13 fall by Isaac Sung. After three tough losses and three forfeits, Freshman heavyweight Caleb Pugh pinned his opponent in 42 seconds.  Unfortunately, Caleb was the last Eagle to get his arm raised in victory as the Eagles lost two more matches and forfeited 2 more matches.  The Eagles wrestle next on Saturday at the Unity Christian Invitational.

in a battle of OK White opponents, the Eagle wresters fell short of beating the Greenville Yellowjackets.  The final score was 30- 54 on a night when the Eagle's gave up 36 points from forfeits. Individual winners were Josh Kennedy, Isaac Sung, Will Owens, Shan Rumbarose and Cameron Morgan.

The Eagle wrestlers had a rough day Saturday falling to Allegan (4-72), Portage Central (15-56), and Lansing Sexton (18-65)  Will Owens was the only undefeated Eagle winning his matches by Major Decision (11-3), Decision (10-6) and Fall (1:31).  Others that won a match were Caleb Pugh, Cam Morgan, Shan Rumbarose, and Caleb Bylsma.

The Eagle wrestlers traveled to Saginaw Heritage HS Wednesday afternoon to wrestle against HH Dow and Heritage High School.  The Eagles fell short against HH Dow, losing 15-58.  The most exciting match of the dual was Cameron Morgan's heavyweight pin of 5:10 after amassing a 19-5 lead over his opponent. Other Eagle winners were Josh Kennedy (17-10 decision) and Will Owens (0:24 fall). After wrestling HH Dow, the Eagles grappled with a tough Saginaw Heritage team, falling short by a score of 24-48.  Josh Kennedy's 10 takedowns on his way to a 20-15 decision was the most exciting match of this dual.  other winners were Caleb Bylsma (forfeit), Isaac Sung (12-7 decision), Will Owens (2:13 fall) and Shan Rumbarose (1:43 fall).

The wrestling team traveled to St Ignace and placed 4th out of 12 teams Saturday.  Josh Kennedy and Will Owens both won their weight class.  Isaac Sung placed second.  Harry Hilts, Shan Rumbarose and Caleb Pugh placed third.  Xander Leatherman placed fourth.

The Eagle wrestlers traveled to Saranac Thursday afternoon to wrestle against Ludington and Saranac.  The Eagles won their first dual against Ludington 36-21 and then defeated Saranac 48-30.  The fastest pin for the afternoon was a 20 second fall by Shan Rumbarose agaist Ludington.  Jayden Wierenga, Will Owens, Isaac Sung and Shan Rubmarose were all undefeated in their two matches.  The Eagle wrestlers travel to St Ignace next for a tournament on Saturday.
