The Eagles had a great weekend at the MHSAA D3 State Swim & Dive championships this past weekend! We were able to bring 10 girls to Oakland University where we swam fast & dove beautifully! Congratulations to our state team that consisted of:  Janie Mills Juliana Mills Maeve Harkness Veda Harkenss Emily Setlock Olivia Koldenhoven Lindsey Wierenga Lucy Molenbeek Kaitlin Pegman Elizabeth Doezema Our 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay (“The Sister Relays”) consisting of Maeve Harkenss, Veda Harkenss, Juliana Mills, and Janie Mills both placed in the top 16! Maeve Harkenss also swam a season best in the 50 freestyle.  Special shoutout to Emily Setlock & Juliana Mils who took home all-state recognition in their individual events. Juliana Mills placed 8th in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.41. Emily Setlock scored 342.20 points, putting her in 5th place!

The Eagles had an incredible weekend at the OK White Conference! We came out of the weekend with fastest swims for many people on our team and had a great time cheering for our teammates on the pool deck!    Some of our great performances are listed below:  Piper Sadowki had great swims in her 200 and 500, swimming a 5:37 to finish off her last high school 500 freestyle. She also wanted to give a shoutout to her pretty coaches!  Maeve Harkness took 7th place in the 50 freestyle and 11th in the 100 freestyle.  Ella Vliem completed her first 11 dive meet, made it back to finals, and scored 245.65!  Emily Setlock rocked all 11 dives, taking third place on the diving boards with a score of 359.35. Maddox Veldkamp went a 28 in the 50 freestyle and broke 1:30 in the 100 Breast! Ali Buist lost her voice from cheering just after she took home her fastest swims in the 500 and 200 on Friday, then again in the 500 on Saturday!  Emily Vander Heide finished with two new best times - 2:41.24 in the 200 IM & 1:11.82 in the 100 fly. Emily Hermen swam a season best in the 50 freestyle!  Olivia Glisson dropped four seconds in her 100 freestyle.  Veda Harkenss swam to 6th place in the 100 butterfly!  Adie Sandburg finished off a relay with a split of 27.67 in the 200 medley relay!! Karson Vandenend swam two personal bests - in the 50 freestyle (30.72)  and 100 backstroke (1:20:16)!  Miriam Kuperus raced her 100 backstroke and finished with a personal best of 1:19!  Lindsey Wierenga swam a personal best in her 100 breaststroke dropping 6 seconds, swimming a 1:16.  Olivia Koldenhoven took 12th place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.27. She also dropped 2 seconds in her 100 butterfly to get a 1:06.71, taking 14th place.  Lexi McKee dropped 9.5 seconds in her 100 freestyle! Kaitlin Pegman sped back to the wall and landed a 59.68 in the 100 freestyle (15th place)!  Reagan Vliem swam the 100 freestyle in 1:14, her fastest time ever!  Janie Mills took a relay split of 31.55 in her breaststroke!  Lucy Molenbeek couldn’t be stopped when she swam a personal best in  the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:12. After this she also broke 6 minutes in the 500 freestyle two days in a row, and then broke a minute during her 400 freestyle relay!  Elizabeth Doezema dropped 3 seconds in her 100 freestyle (1:01.16) and dropped 3 seconds in her 100 breaststroke (1:18), ending the meet with two new personal bests.  Juliana Mills swam several personal bests over the weekend - the 100 backstroke was a highlight with a 1:03.82.  Natalie Gerlach swam fastest times in her 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.  Katelyn Vander Heide split a 58.4 in the 400 relay!  We are incredibly proud of the team for all of the hard work you’ve put in this season! Stay tuned as this week Lindsey Wierenga and Olivia Koldenhoven will be attending the second chance meet on Tuesday to get state cuts in the 100 breast (Lindsey) and the 50 free (Olivia) & Emily Setlock takes on Regionals.

The Eagles had their last conference dual meet last night swimming against Forest Hills Central. We left the meet excited for two weeks of taper before our fast swimming & great diving at our Conference Meet next Friday! Listed below are some notable swims from our meet:   Ella Vliem put a hurdle on her 301b, scoring all 5s. Lindsey Wierenga swam her fastest time in the 100 yard breaststroke. Katherine Brandt dropped 7 seconds in her 500 yard freestyle! Juliana  Mills got 1st in the 100 yard  butterfly! Our 200 medley relay took first place! Piper Sadowski flew home to visit us and won the 500 freestyle while she was here. Juliana Mills felt good and looked good during her 100 backstroke. Olivia Koldenhoven started off the A relay and was very speedy!

Our Swim and Dive team had a fantastic night celebrating our nine seniors! We are so grateful for each of you and eager to see the ways God uses you after your time on our team. While celebrating them, our team also had some great swims that are noted below: Kaitlin Pegman swam a season best in 100 freestyle with a time of 1:02.31! Grace Van Der Woerd swam her fastest time in the 100 freestyle! Miriam Kuperus swam the 200 freestyle for the very first time and crushed it! Natalie Gerlach swam fast to the finish, touching the wall with a personal best in the 100 freestyle and did not lose her goggles! Micah Heerema swam a personal best in the 200 IM and swam 100 breaststroke for the first time. Emily Vander Heide swam her fastest 100 fly with a time of 1:15.38. Nobody could stop Maddox Veldkamp, who got a personal best in the 50 and 100 free. Olivia Gelene Koldenhoven did her first 200 IM of high school season and swam fast the whole time! The 500 freestyle was exciting because Lucy Molenbeek and Piper Sadowski both took personal bests. Piper also took the DUB in this event! Liv Glisson absolutely glided through the water and dropped 6 seconds in her 100 breaststroke!

The Eagles had a very successful invite in Spring Lake Saturday morning. We beat Ludington and just fell short of beating Spring Lake. Below are some of the highlights from the weekend!   Sophomore Ali Buist swam a season best in her 500 free, ending with a 6:20. Veda Harkness got her state cut in her 50 freestyle! Maeve Harkness sped through her 100 back and placed 1st! Emily Setlock took first in diving, again! Freshman Grace VanderWoerd dropped two seconds and got her personal best in her 50 free. Juliana took first in the 100 fly! Juliana Mills, Janie Mills, Olivia Koldehoven and Maeve Harkness placed first for the 200 medley relay. Freshman Maddox Veldkamp swam her best time in the 100 breaststroke! Karson VanDenend sped through the water getting a personal best in the 100 back! Elizabeth Doezema swam her fastest 100 freestyle, dropping 3 seconds! Natalie Gerlach swam a personal best in her 50 free. Freshman Reagan Vliem zoomed through her events, swimming personal bests in both the 100 and 50 free! Ali Buist swam the 50 free for her first time in over a year and broke 30 for the first time swimming a 29.26!   Come to Calvin on Tuesday to help us celebrate our lovely seniors!

  The Eagles had a great night at our home pool last night swimming and diving against Byron center. We missed our choir girls, but ended the night with a score of 75.5 against Byron Center. Maddox Veldkamp got to swim four events! She swam a personal best in the 100 breastroke. Juliana Mills and Olivia Koldenhoven took 1st and 2nd place in the 100 yard butterfly. Lindsey Wierenga got new goggles and they stayed on, helping her swim her fastest time in her 100 breast stroke. Janie Mills touched the wall at second place in her 100 freestyle! Katelyn Vanderheide swam her second 500 freestyle and dropped almost 2 seconds. She also swam her first 200 freestyle! Piper Sadowski jammed her way to the wall and finally broke 5:50 in a dual meet. Natalie Gerlach swam 10 seconds faster than ever in her 100 yard breaststroke. Reagan Vliem swam speedy and took a personal best in both individual events. Mollie DeBlecourt swam four events and got first in the heat of her two individual events. Veda Harkness took second place in the 50 freestyle! In the words of our favorite lifeguard, it was an “outstanding night of swimming & diving!”

Last night we had a great meet against Grand Rapids Catholic Central. We won this meet on both ends of the pool! Some of our very big accomplishments from last night are listed below: We had a very successful night on the diving end of the pool! With not 1, not 2, but all 4 of the competing divers scoring their highest ever 6 dive meet scores. Emily Setlock came in 1st with a score of 228.95, 3rd place was Emmarie Van Oss who scored 185.30, in 4th was Lilly Kate Devries with a score of 159.10, and last but not least Ella Vliem absolutely crushing her performance on a 301b scoring 154.70. Lindsey Wierenga swam yet again ANOTHER race without her goggles. The goggles broke right off her start, but she finished out swimming a 1:24 in the 100 breastroke! Katherine Brandt swam her first 500! She swam absolutely amazing and we are so proud. Reagan Vliem swam her fastest time in her 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle, dropping 4 second in her one hundred, a huge drop! Elizabeth Doezema swam another best time in her 100 freestyle,  swimming a 1:07! Slay Elizabeth. Juliana Mills placed 1st in her 100 fly swimming a 1:03.79! Maeve Harkness flew to the finish in her events, placing first in the 100 yard backstroke and  2nd in 100 freestyle. Janie Mills took first in the 50 freestyle and 3rd in the 100 freestyle. Ali Buist keeps swimming faster! She swam another season best in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Maddox Veltkamp swam her fastest time in the 100 yard freestyle. We ended our meet with a time trial where Veda Harkness swam the 50 free and missed the cut by just .1 second!

After a hugely successful weekend, the Eagles swam against FHNE last night. The Eagles scored 82 points against FHNE who won with 104. We missed our orchestra girls, but in the words of Piper Sadowski we did “Slay the Day”! Some notable swims are listed below: Katelyn Vander Heide swam her first 500 ever. Janie Mills placed second in the 100 yard freestyle. Juliana Mills took second in 100 yard breaststroke, backstroke, and the 200 IM. Emily Vander Heide swam the 100 back stroke for the first time. Piper Sadowski swam a best time in the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke. Emily Hermen and Kaitlin Pegman both landed personal bests in the 200 freestyle. Micah Heerema had a season best in the 50 free and 100 backstroke. Grace Van Der Woerd swam her fastest ever in the 100 yard freestyle. Katherine Brandt swam the 200 yard freestyle for the first time. Emily Setlock landed a very memorable 303c!

The Eagles had an incredible day swimming at the D3 Midseason Invitational at the Holland Aquatic Center on Saturday! Our day was full of season bests, state cuts, and top 16 finishes! At the end of the day the Eagles took fourth place overall!    Listed below are some of the notable swims from the day:    Veda Harkness placed 8th in the 200 IM and 6th in the 100 free. Maeve Harkness placed 6th in the 200 freestyle and 2nd in the 100 freestyle, landing a state cut in the 100 freestyle.  Juliana Mills took first place in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.07! Juliana also placed 5th in the 100 yard backstroke with a state qualifying time.  Janie Mills swam a 25.83 in her 50 freestyle, landing her 3rd place overall! Janie also placed 2nd in the 100 yard breaststroke, making state cuts in both events!  Elizabeth Doezema swam her personal best in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:21.29, putting her in 16th place!  Our sister squad relay (Maeve Harkness, Veda Harkness, Juliana Mills, Janie Mills) finished first place in the 200 freestyle relay! Let’s go, sister squad!!  Piper Sadowski swam a personal best and state cut in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:36.78. Slay the day, Piper!  Emily Hermen swam a season best in the 50 free and the 100 free!  Miriam Kuperus sped across the pool breaking 30 seconds in her 50 freestyle! She also dropped 8 seconds in the 100 yard backstroke.  Emily Setlock nailed all 11 dives, taking second place with a score of 353!  Lindsey Wierenga swam a season best in the 100 freestyle with a 1:01.25. Ali Buist keeps dropping time in her 500 freestyle! She finished the race with another personal best at 6:17.66. Kaitlin Pegman swam two season bests in the 50 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Our 400 free relay (Juliana Mills, Veda Harkness, Katelyn Vander Heide, Maeve Harkness) made a state qualifying time and season best with a time of 3:52.32. Emily Vanderheide dropped over 7 seconds in her 200 yard IM.  Gertie Heerema dropped 5 seconds in her 200 yard IM.  Karson VanDenened dropped 5 seconds in the 100 yard backstroke.   Our swimmers and divers had a great day filled with fast swim and beautiful dives. Way to go, Eagles!

The Eagles had their first conference meet of the season last night and had good chance to compete against our neighbors!   Some great swims and dives from the night in EGR are listed below:   -Lilly Kate whipped around her legal 5124d, putting two full twists into the water! -Ali Buist took home her fastest time in her 200 yard and 500 yard freestyle. She truly put blood, sweat, and tears into the meet! -Piper Sadowksi “slayed the day” and took a season best in the 500 yard freestyle. -Elizabeth Doezema had a great night! She took a personal best in the 100 yard breast stroke and broke 30 seconds in her 50 freestyle for the first time this season with a 29.9. -Maddox Veldkamp swam her fastest time in the 100 breaststroke! -All the girls who swim distance slayed and got their season best in the 500 (Piper Sadowski, Lucy Molenbeek, Ali Buist) -Reagan Vliem swam her fastest times ever in the 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle.     Look forward to some more fast conference swims in the next few weeks!

The Eagles had a great night swimming against Union High school! Many members of our team had some memorable swims (and starts) that kept us cheering and laughing all the way through the meet!  Some memorable achievements are listed below: -Ali Buist took 1st place in the 100 back stroke with a time of 1:16.00 -Elizabeth  Doezema swam her first ever 200 Medley and crushed it.  -Piper Sadowksi swam her first 100 breast stroke of the season! -Maeve Harkness changed up her events and took first place in the 200 IM and the 100 Butterfly. -Veda Harkness took 1st place in the 500 freestyle and 100 breast, turning herself into a distance girl!  -Emily Setlock took first place on the diving boards with a score of 218.25 and locked in her fourth regional point, earning her place at regionals this year!  -Emmarie VanOss had another huge PR, scoring 158 points on the diving board.  -Lucy Molenbeek had a speedy PR in the 100 back with a time of 1:16.07. -Jenna Vanderwall took home another personal best on the diving boards.

The Eagles had a spectacular night at the Venema Aquatic Center. We had a great night swimming and diving against Hamilton High taking home the win (95.5-90.5) and quite a few personal bests and state cuts listed below: Katherine Brandt took a speedy personal best in 100 free with a time of 1:07. Emily Setlock took 1st place on the diving boards and gained another regional point.  Emmarie VanOss nailed all of her dives with another PR of 140.40. Jenna Vanderwall set yet another personal best on the diving boards.  Lindsey Weirenga flew to the walls PRing in the 100 breast just after one of our team’s most iconic swims ever. Just after diving in at the beginning of the 500 freestyle Lindsey’s goggles fell off. Can’t see anything! Then, a couple hundred yards later her whole cap came off. Never the less, she kept swimming the whole 20 laps. When in doubt, Lindsey it out!  Piper Sadowski took a double PR with the 500 free and the 100 back!! Lucy Molenbeek did a slam dunk in the 100 free setting a new personal best.  Karson Vandenend PRd in the 100 backstroke.  Elizabeth Doezema PRd in the 50 free!  Juliana Mills took 1st place in 100 fly & 100 back. Janie Mills took 2nd 100 breast. Kaitlin Pegman ate her 1st soft shell taco and rated it 6/10. Veda Harkness took 1st place in the 200 IM and the 100 freestyle Maeve Harkness gets a NICE SHOUTOUT for her state cut in the 50 free and taking 1st place in this event and the 200 freestyle. Special shoutout to Veda Harkness who qualified for state in the 100 yard butterfly a few weeks ago at our meet against Holland High. She flew into the wall with a 1:03.31 making the state cut with time to spare! Great swim, Veda!

The Eagles had a warm time at the Christian school trifecta last night swimming and diving against Unity Christian and Holland Christian!! Special shoutouts to these awesome performances:     ◦    Piper Sadowski PRd in her 500 freestyle with a 5:50.70!      ◦    Janie Mills had a sick 100 breaststroke and took 3rd place overall in the 50 freestyle!     ◦    Juliana Mills made a state qualifying time swimming 1:02.52 in the 100 yard butterfly!     ◦    Miriam Kuperus swam the 100 yard backstroke for the first time!     ◦    Reagan Vliem dropped all sorts of time on her 50 freestyle!      ◦    Gertie Heerema and Emily Vanderheide swam the 200 IM for the first time and absolutely slayed the game!     ◦    Emmarie VanOss PRd by over 20 points in the diving well!     ◦    Jenna Vanderwell PRd in the diving well  with a score of 112.40!     ◦    Emily Setlock earned another regional point, beating all of Unity Christian’s divers! A special shout-out to Scott Johnson and Dirk Pegman who transported us like absolute champions!!
