Girls Junior Varsity Soccer vs. OPEN

Eagles Lose: -

Grand Rapids Christian faced Lowell High School for the second time this season. The Eagles were hoping for a better result on their home turf. It was the Eagles last game of the season and they came out strong. Freshman center back, Rose Toly, had two shots on frame off of free kicks which almost found the back of the net. With a strong backline and goalkeeping, the Eagles were able to keep a 0-0 result at halftime. Unfortunately, during the second half the Red Arrows scored off of two corners. Final score 0-4 with the Lowell win.

Grand Rapids Christian faced Lowell High School for the second time this season. The Eagles were hoping for a better result on their home turf. Eagles Lose: 0.00 - 7.00

Grand Rapids Christian traveled to Forest Hills Northern for a 5 o’clock kick off. The Huskies where quick and move the ball well. The Eagles however, did a great job tracking the opponents forwards as well as sophomore, Addie Werdon, having great saves to keep the Eagles afloat. Though the Eagles had a few chances to score up top, the majority of gameplay was spent defending. Forest Hills Northern scored two goals off of corner kicks connected to a header. Final score of the game was 0-7 with the Huskies win.

Eagles Lose: 1.00 - 6.00

Grand Rapids Christian faced Holland Christian for a 7PM kick off at Eagle Stadium. Holland Christian had quick forwards that snuck around our defense and caused a scoring opportunity in the first 10 minutes of play. The Maroons kept their pressure up and despite the Eagle's clearances and great saves by the keeper, GRC made it to halftime down 0-4 . For the second half, the Eagles came out with more energy and matched the Maroons speed of play and physicality. Freshman, Ella Johnson, split the outside back and the center back, and scored a fantastic goal from outside the 18 yard box while hitting the top right corner. Holland Christian responded and unfortunately scored two more goals in the second half. Final score 1-6 with the Maroons winning. The Eagles will play their third game of the week at 5PM at Forest Hills Northern on Thursday. 


 

Girls Junior Varsity Soccer vs. Unity Christian High School

Eagles Lose: 0.00 - 4.00

The Eagles started their week of games off by competing against the Unity Christian Crusaders. Knowing this would be a tougher game, our back line was ready to compete and play direct. Unity Christian found themselves in a PK situation against the Eagle sophomore goalie, Addie Werdon. Addie saved the PK which kept the Eagles at a 0-0 tie for the majority of the first half. Eventually, Unity Christian snuck one through off of a cross to make the game 0-1 at half. The second half remained competitive, but eventually, the Crusaders deep bench wore down the Eagles. Though there were amazing clearances from our center backs Rose Toly and Lily Batts, the Eagles finish the game with a 0-4 loss. This was game one of three for the week. Grand Rapids Christian is looking forward to playing Holland Christian at home on Wednesday.

Eagles Lose: -

The Eagles took the field on Friday for an early away game against Jenison High School. Grand Rapids Christian came out hard with lots of pressure on the opponents back line. Halfway through the first half, sophomore, Sidonia Louise had a breakaway and was one-on-one with the keeper. She beat out the goalie and finished her goal in the bottom left corner. This took the Eagles to a 1-0 halftime. Unfortunately, as a second half went on, Jenison had two similar breakaways that they capitalized on. The Eagles walked away with a hard fought game ending in a 1-2 loss. The Eagles are looking forward to next week as they play three more games.

The Eagles traveled to Lowell high school with a 5 PM kick off. The opponent started off strong and scored a goal within the first few minutes of play. However, the Eagles responded well and continued to hold off their front line throughout the first half. With a 0-2 halftime, the Eagles were ready to continue to connect passes, win balls out of the air, and compete with tenacity. Grand Rapids Christian did just that, but eventually Lowell had a great shot to score another one on the Eagles. The Grand Rapids Christian defenders and midfielders were able to send balls through their defense onto our forwards, but we were unable to score. The Eagles finished with a 0-4 loss. Grand Rapids Christian is looking forward to an early 4 PM away game this Friday against Jenison High School.

Eagles Lose: 0.00 - 1.00

Grand Rapids Christian JV girls soccer took a quick drive to face East Grand Rapids. Both teams started off with tenacity and a desire to win. Early on in the game, a forward from East Grand Rapids had a break away and managed to put it in the back of the net. The Eagles responded well and kept pressure on East the entire rest of the first half, but unfortunately could not score. Halftime 0-1, East Grand Rapids in the lead. The Eagles came out even harder the second half and began to wore down East Grand Rapids. The Eagles created many opportunities such as through balls, free kicks, corner kicks, and many shots on frame. Through all of this, the Eagles, unfortunately could not capitalize on one of their chances. The final score of the game was 0-1, East Grand Rapids with the win.

Eagles Win: 6.00 - 0.00

The Eagles JV girls soccer took the field against Northview High School. Grand Rapids Christian came ready to play and Freshman, Ella Johnson scored two powerful goals in the first half which took our team to a 2-0 halftime. 
With momentum with us, Ella scored two more goals from around the 18 yard box. The Eagles continued to win 50-50 balls in the midfield and defense which kept the pressure on the Wildcats. This allowed for Sophomore, Lily Batts to play forward and score two great goals. Assists this game were by Sidonia Louise, Jazlyn Feyen, and Julia Duimstra. The Eagles will face East Grand Rapids High School this Wednesday at 5:00pm.

Grand Rapids Christian JV girls soccer traveled to Byron Center for a sunny 5 o’clock game. Byron Center's deep bench allowed them to have the upper hand throughout most of the game. GRC defense held strong through the first half, only giving up two goals. Addie Werdon also had multiple great saves that allowed GRC to be in striking distance. Unfortunately, during a hard fought game Byron Center was able to find the back of the net 4 more times in the second half for a final score of 6-0. Grand Rapids Christian faces Forrest Hills Northern on Wednesday.

JV Eagles split games at Portage Northern Invitational

Eagles Win: 4.00 - 1.00

JV Eagles beat Portage Northern 4-1

Grand Rapids Christian Eagles played in a two-game tournament at Portage Northern. The first game was against the hosts of Portage Northern. The Eagles came ready to play with constant attack from the very start. Eventually, this led to Freshman Jazlyn Feyen finding the back of the net twice in the first half. In between her goals, Meghan Leech had her first goal of the season to make the Eagles stand 3-1 at half.    Grand Rapids Christian continued to apply great pressure on the Huskies defense which resulted in Sophomore Sidonia Louise’s final goal to end the game 4-1. A win for the Eagles!

JV Eagles fell to Plainwell 0-2

A few hours later, Grand Rapids Christian faced Plainwell High School. Plainwell was quick and scored within the first few minutes of the game. The Eagles responded well and our defense had great clearances which allowed our midfield to connect passes. Trojans scored off of a cross right before the end of the first half. Making it 0-2 at halftime. Once again, the Eagles continued to fight and did not concede any more goals in the second half. Final score 0-2.
