Boys Varsity Track vs. MHSAA State Finals

Eagles Lose: -

The Eagles competed in the MHSAA final Saturday on a rainy afternoon in Hamilton. The Eagles tied for 45th place, scoring  3 points. Jordan Rodgers scored the only points for the Eagles, finishing in 6th place in the long jump. Jordan was injured on his final attempt, and was unable to run in the other two events he was in.  Simon Triezenberg however, broke his own school record in the 3200, one he set just 4 weeks ago, running 9:22.It is a testament to the great distance running in Michigan that despite a great time, Simon finished 9th overall, and only 15 seconds out of first place. Caebre Baty ran both hurdle races, getting 25th in the 110 hurdles and 33rd in the 300 hurdles. Micah Small ran 2:00 in the 800 to get 22nd place. Micah, only a sophomore, was only 5 seconds out of first. The 4x100 relay team of Andrew Overvoorde, U'Maree Talley, Aaron Gholston, and Caebre finished in 32nd place.

Eagles Lose: -

The Eagles finished third in their regional meet Saturday at Sparta. The heat prevailed, but the Eagles were still able to get several athletes through to the state finals on June 1, and several others were able to score points in the meet. Aaron Gholston was able to race to a third place in the 100. Micah small took 3rd in the 800 and was able to qualify to the final. Simon Triezenberg and Joe Waalkes finished 3rd and 7th in the 3200. Simon's time qualified him to the final. Caebre Baty had a big day, finishing 2nd in the 110 hurdles, 3rd in the 300 hurdles, and 5th in the long jump. Both of his hurdle races got him to the final. Tony Phillips took 6th in the shot put. Simon VandenBroek was 5th in the high jump. Zach Hartemink was 6th in the pole vault.  The 4x800 relay team of Nate Baker, Jacob Voetberg, Elias DeJong, and Calvin Brinks was 6th. The 4x200 team of Sam Minito, Andrew Overvoorde, Quintin Willis, and U'Maree Talley took 3rd. The 4x100 team was able to qualify for state in 4th place. Team members are Aaron Gholston, Andrew Overvoorde, U'Maree Talley, and Jordon Rodgers. Jordon also took first in the long jump, qualifying to the finals, and anchored the winning 4x400 relay team to a first place and advancing to the finals. Other team members are Micah Small, Nate Johnson, and Quintin Willis. 

Boys JV Track vs. OK White

Eagles Lose: -

The Eagles competed in the OK White JV finals Monday night at Greenville. The meet was not scored as a team but several Eagles performed well and earned medals. Tyler Davis had a big night winning the Long jump, finishing 3rd in the 100, and on the winning 4x100 relay team. Shan Rambharose was also on the relay team and took 3rd in the 200. Brieon Walton, another member of the team also took 5th in the 200. The final member of the relay team was Tyler Kwon. Isaiah King raced around the track to take 3rd in the 400, while Elias DeJong and Calvin Brinks took 2nd and 4th in the 1600. Jacob Voetberg led start to finish, comfortably winning. Pole Vaulters Zach Hartemink and Isaac Witte took 1st and 2nd in the pole vault. 

The Eagles head to Sparta on Saturday for regionals. 

Boys Varsity Track vs. OK White Finals

Eagles Lose: -

The Eagles finished fourth in the OK White conference finals that took place over Wednesday and Thursday in Greenville. The Eagles had several PR performances and placed in the lots of events:

Aaron Gholston was 5th in the 100 meter dash. Aaron was also on the 3rd place 4x100.

Jordan Rodgers took 2nd in the long jump, 5th in the 400, and was on the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams that took 3rd and 2nd respectively.

Nate Johnson was 6th in the 400.

Micah Small was 4th in the 800 and was on the 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams that took 3rd and 2nd.

Simon Triezenberg was 4th in the 1600, 3rd in the 3200, and on the third place 4x800 team. 

Caebre Baty was 6th in the 110 hurdles and 4th in the 300 hurdles.

Tony Phillips was 7th in the shot put.

Carter Goodyke was 2nd in the high jump.

Simon VandenBroek was 4th in the high jump.

Joining Aaron and Jordon on the 4x100 team were Umaree Talley and Andrew Overvoorde. 

Joining Jordan and Micah on the 4x400 team were Quintin Willis and Nate Baker, who also was on the 4x800 team. 

Joining Simon, Nate, and Micah on the 4x800 team was Keegan Hoekstra. 

The fifth place 4x200 relay team included Umaree, Quintin, Andrew, and Sam Minoto.

Finally, both Jordan Rodgers and Simon Triezenberg accumulated enough points to earn all conference.

 

Boys Varsity Track vs. Forest Hills Northern High

Eagles Lose: -

The Eagles dropped a pair of dual meets Wednesday afternoon, losing to Greenville and Forest Hills Northern. The mild but breezy night still brought out many great efforts for the Eagles. Aaron Gholston returned from injury to win the 100 meter dash and ran a PR at the same time. Jordan Rodgers finished second in the event running it for the very first time, but minutes later he won the long jump, breaking 21' for the first time ever, and then to end the meet, he teamed with Micah Small, Nate Johnson, and Quitin Willis to take the 4X400 relay in a new season's best time. Tony Phillips was able to win the shot put while teammate Ty Moody took the disc with a great throw of 129'. Simon VandenBroek jumped 6'2" to take the high jump.

The Eagles have the weekend off, but head to Greenville next week Wednesday and Thursday for the 2 day OK White Final. 

Boys Varsity Track vs. Multiple Opponents

Eagles Lose: -

The Eagles finished in 5th place under windy, but warm conditions at East Grand Rapids Saturday. While there were threatening clouds all day, the rain held off and the Eagles were able to turn in many outstanding performances. The Eagle high jump team of Carter Goodyke and Simon Vandenbroek took first overall in the rare field event relay. Carter had a PR jump of 6' to take first overall, while Simon went 5'10". The distance medley relay also took first. The team members were Micah Small running 1200 meters, Quintin Willis running 400 meters, Nathan Baker running 800 meters, and Simon Triezenberg anchoring with 1600 meters. In the very competitive shot put event, Tony Phillips set a new PR with a 44' 7" put. In the 1600 meter run, both Jacob Voetberg ( 4:51 ) and Elias DeJong ( 4:56 ) set new PR's on the windy afternoon. 

The Eagles return to action Wednesday at Forest Hills Northern. 

Boys Varsity Track vs. Lowell High School & EGR

Eagles Lose: -

The Eagles won both meets at Lowell High, beating the Red Arrows and East Grand Rapids. Simon Vandenbroek and Carter Goodyke tied for first in the high jump to begin the night. Other highlights included the 4x100 relay team of U'maree Talley, Andrew Overvoorde, Charlie King, and Tyler Davis running their fastest time of the season to take the event. The 800 meter run was a clean sweep for the Eagles when Simon Triezenberg, Keegan Hoekstra, and Jonathan Koetje went 1,2, 3. Keegan and Jonathan also PR'ed in the 1600 meter run earlier in the meet. Caebre Baty continued to impress in the 110 high hurdles, remaining unbeaten in the league. Nate Johnson was able to take first in the 400 meter run, then teamed up with Quintin Willis, Micah Small, and Jordan Rodgers to win the 4x400 relay, running 3:33, putting their time in the top 5 in the state. 

Boys Varsity Track vs. Byron Center High School

Eagles Lose: -

The Eagles were beaten by Byron Center Wednesday night, but still had several outstanding performances. Micah Small went wire to wire easily winning the 800 meter run. Although second place, sophomore Sean Ryan ran a PR 1600 meter time of 4:35 and in the same race Jacob Voetberg and Elias DeJong also PR'ed, both breaking the 5 minute barrier running 4:56 and 4:59. Then in the longest race in the meet, Simon Triezenberg race to the top time in our region so far, running 9:43, good for first place. Caebre Baty continued his hot streak in the hurdles, winning both the 110 highs and 300 lows, plus he PR'ed in the long jump, leaping just under 19'. Simon VandenBroek took top honors in the high jump by jumping 6'. In the pole vault, both Isaac Witte and Sammy Rauwerda PR'ed with vaults of 9' and 8'.

The Eagles are off until next Wednesday. 

Boys Varsity Track vs. Multiple Opponents

Eagles Lose: -

The Eagles finished in third place at the annual Christian Schools meet at Unity Christian Saturday. Although sunshine prevailed throughout the meet, the cool temps combined with a brisk wind caused athletes and fans alike to bundle up. The Eagles scored in several of the events in the 14 team field. Andrew Overvoorde was 6th in the 100 and 4th in the 200. Calvin Brinks debut in the 400 and took 6th. Simon Triezenberg took a pair of thirds in the 800 and 1600. His teammate Micah Small was right behind in the 800 in 4th. The two also combined with Sean Ryan and Nathan Baker to take 2nd in the 4x800 relay. Jonathan Koetje took 2nd in the 3200 with Keegan Hoekstra taking 5th in the same race. Caebre Baty finished 2nd in the 110 hurdles. Tony Phillips and Cam Morgan took 2nd and 6th in the shot put while Simon Vandenbroek took 2nd in the high jump. The Eagles head to Forest Hills Central today to take on the Rangers.

Eagles Lose: -

The Eagles lost in their dual meet against Forest Hills Central 77.5 to 58.5. There were several outstanding performance over the meet. Jordan Rodgers had a big night winning the 400 meters and the long jump, and getting second in the high jump. Simon Triezenberg PR'ed in his 800 meter run, racing to a first place time of 1:58. Caebre Baty also had a big night, winning the 110 hurdles in a PR time of 15.64, then getting second in the 300 hurdles with another PR time of 44.30, and also taking third in the long jump. Tony Phillips took second in both throws with a PR put in the shot of 40'9" and a discus toss of 105'1". Carter Goodyke made his track debut by winning the high jump in 5'10". Zach Hartemink vaulted 10'6" in the pole vault, good for a PR and first place. Sean Ryan PR'ed in the 3200 with a PR time of 9:55.0. 

The Eagles head to Byron Center Wednesday for another OK White meet.

Eagles Win: 98.00 - 39.00

The Eagles won their first track meet of the season 98-39 over Northview. The Eagles won all 4 relays and 8 of the 12 individual events. Winning events were Aaron Gholston in the 100 meters, Jordon Rodgers in the 400 meters, Micah Small in the 800 meters, Simon Triezenberg in the 1600 meters, Keegan Hoekstra in the 3200 meters, Nasir Zimmerman in the 300 hurdles, and Simon VandenBroek won both the 110 hurdles and the high jump. The Eagles return to action Thursday at Forest Hills Central.
