Unified Eagles beat Kenowa Hills High School 47-38

Eagles Win: 47 - 38
It took 5 minutes of play for the Grand Rapids Christian Unified Basketball Team to shake off the rust from the weekend and make their first basket on Tuesday afternoon against the visiting Knights from Kenowa Hills.  But once they removed the lid from the south basket in the Quest Center the Eagles cruised to a 47 to 38 victory.   The team shooting percentage spiked with not one, not two, but three soft bank shots from Faith Kelly on the left baseline set up by some nifty partner passing from Adia Sikkema and Kaitlyn Aupperlee.  The birthday boy Andrew Muir joined the party with a rebound and nifty put back (plus a triple attempt that just rimmed in and out).  Dani Barton and Alex Williams protected the ball against a one-man Kenowa Hills full court press to connect with Mason Werdon on a variety of finger roll scoops – none better than a last second layup to end the third period that sent the Eagle crowd into a frenzy.   This awesome finish was in addition to Isaac Muller’s three-point buzzer beater that ended the first half.  With only six seconds to go in the half, Hope Alvesteffer quickly inbounded to Emma VanGoor who found the cherry-picking Muller open on the left hand side of the court and he promptly pulled the trigger.   And to cap off the afternoon, our walking double-double Max Damstra went to work on the glass in the fourth quarter and closed out the game with a variety of put backs.  Max’s shot making accolades have spread beyond the state borders, as fans from Illinois (sporting Damstra sweatshirts with the #22 on the back) traveled to the Quest Center to see him in action.  We are looking forward to our road trip on Friday to Zeeland West High School with a matinee tip off of 3:00 PM.  Make sure to take a half day off and join the Eagles!
