Random Info: Claudia, who also goes by “Brinkles” or “Claud”, focuses on her races by listening to “Doubt” by Mary J. Blige. Her pre-race routine behind the block involves taking off her goggles and putting them back on at least 20 times and then suctioning them on her face as hard as she can because she’s paranoid they’re going to come off during her race. Claudia’s favorite post-meet meal is lasagna, garlic bread, Caesar salad, and chocolate milk. You may not know that juggling is a secret talent of hers! Next year, Claudia hopes to attend either Belmont University or Lipscomb University and study music business and political science.
Advice for Teammates: “Make the most of every practice and don’t get too caught up in your times because you won’t remember the numbers on the board but will remember the memories you make with your teammates every day. Work hard and don’t be afraid to push yourself, this will get you so far. You hear this all the time, but the time really flies by, so cherish every practice even the hard ones. I wouldn’t trade the last four years on this team for anything in the world, so make the most of it.”
Favorite Bible verse: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance in what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1
Parents: Brian and Shirley Burrows
Random Info: Becca or “Bex” gets energized before meets by talking with teammates and listening to music. Her favorite song is “Hey Stupid, I Love You” by JP Saxe, and her go-to pre-race song is “Bad Chick” by Somo. After meets she enjoys a good pizza. Something most don’t know about Becca is that she secretly describes herself as a nerd who loves to read. She has read around 30 books or far this year! After graduation, Becca will attend Northern Michigan University and continue her swimming career as a Wildcat.
Advice for Teammates: “When people say high school goes by fast they are 101% telling the truth. So my advice is to cherish every moment with this team by doing team bonding activities and late night practices, even the hard sets. I used to want practice to be done sooner (mainly during the hard sets, hehe), but now I dread it coming to an end because it means another less day I have to spend with this team.”
Favorite Bible Verse: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” I Peter 5:7

Random Info: To get prepared for swim meets, Annika will often watch footage of previous races to see what she can improve on. She also listens to Kidz Bop because their musical renditions get her pumped up. After meets, Annika recharges with chicken alfredo along with lots of bread or any other carbs. Although Annika is not sure what college she will attend next year, she is planning to major in history and possibly pursue a minor in English.
Advice to Teammates: “Try to push yourself as best as you can during practice. It’s so rewarding to experience all those tough hours in the pool and weight room paying off at the end of the season by dropping time at conference.”“Try to push yourself as best as you can during practice. Favorite Bible Verse: “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

Random Info: As a junior, Mara’s teammates gave her the nickname “Newma” because of the hard work ethic and positive attitude she developed. The old Mara was replaced by the new Mara, or “Newma”. Before meets, Mara gets pumped up by listening to “It’s Everyday Bro” with Maria in their minivans, and after meets she enjoys pasta, especially lasagna. You can find Mara rollerblading with friends in her free time. Although Mara has not decided which college she will attend next year, she is leaning toward Calvin University or Grand Valley University and is considering the field of education.
Favorite Bible Verse: ““Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Advice for Teammates: “Be positive and work hard during practice.”

Random Info: Maria, also known as “Mia Ria Quesadilla”, listens to the song, “I Love My Mom” by Blake Rules to get absolutely hyped before swim meets. Then before each race, she performs a ritual in which she shakes out her left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg, jumps three times, does a streamline, then shakes her hands, and takes a deep breath. Maria’s favorite meal after meets is a baked potato, and she especially likes the cheese from taco night. Not many know that Maria still has her 200+ eraser collection from 2nd grade, and her pinky fingers are double-jointed. Next year, Maria plans to attend Hope College or Calvin University and study human resources and Spanish and continue to develop her faith.
Advice for Teammates: “Enjoy every moment of the swim season and invest in every person on the team.”
Favorite Bible Verse: ““Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord or fully declare his praise? Blessed are those who act justly, who constantly do what is right.” Psalms 106:1-
