A story not easily summarized here, the Eagles stormed back from 13 shots back, in the final seven holes of Day 2 at the Fortress to win the State Championship in Division 2 over a fantastic Brother Rice team by 2 shots. Ultimately 15 shots were made up on the final stretch of very difficult golf holes where the Eagles played solid, not perfect, golf under extreme pressure to win.

On Friday the Eagles shot 300, a very solid score, but it was 10 shots behind back to back reigning state champion Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice wth a 290. Lorenzo Pinelli (Brother Rice) won the day with an 8 under par 64 - a truly incredible performance. Tied for a tournament record. Highlights for the day was Dylan Clark shooting 73 and John Cassiday holing out on his last hole from the fairway for an "Eagle" (a 2) from 100 yards out to get to a -1 par 71 and keep us 10 shots down.

Day two started out as a stalemate going back and forth for 11 holes getting as close as 6 and as far back as 13 shots with 7 holes left. The Eagles stuck to the game plan for the course that the team made and the depth of our program showed through as our guys finished strong through the pressure and made incredible shots and choices under pressure to post a 295 (595 overall) to Brother Rice's 307 (597 overall).

Highlights for the Eagles were too many to write here, but Day 2 player junior Adam Workman was incredible, paring the hardest hole on the course (13), then making an Eagle from 270 yards out on hole 14, paring 15, and birdieing his last hole 16 (2nd hardest hole) to finish his round with a 73 and put an exclaimation point on an incredible day from him! Junior Dylan Clark shot a 73-73 for two day total of 146 and 5th place overall. Freshman Cooper Reitsma, played shot for shot with the Individual State Champion Lorenzo Pinelli (who shot a 64-70 for a total of -10 134) and basically neutralized his score on Day 2. He shot a 76-72 for a two day total of 148 and a T-6th finish overall. Sophomore John Cassiday shot a 71-77 for a total of 148 which was tied with Cooper for 6th place.

I hope you can find a player or a parent to talk to about the moments God gave us during that miraculous finish and three year journey to this point. We are blessed beyond measure for the time, the moments, and the gifts God has given us. The Championship is nice, but Eagle Golf is about teh process and the people and ministry of God through it all. Proud of our boys, their families, and all the community who has supported us. This is all of our Championship so please enjoy it!

We look forward to climbing the next mountaintop in our path. It takes about 363 days to get there. The journey will not be smooth, but it will be fun, and hard, and sad, and happy, it will take time, but it will be an amazing gift from God whether we reach the top again or not. Thanks for following us this year! Go Eagles!
