Thursday afternoon the Eagles bounced back after a tough Tuesday loss, and shut-out the visiting East Grand Rapids squad, 3-0. The clean sheet was thanks to an active defensive backline and smart goalkeeping from Anton Dershem (Junior). Notable in the Eagle backline was center back, Eli Leegwater (Sophomore) who the lead the defensive stats in 50/50 battles, tackles, and clears.
First half highlights included scoring from Nick Cassidy (Sophomore) in the 11th minute. Evan May (Senior) found Cassidy off a cross from the right-wing, and the Sophomore finished cleanly in the bottom left corner for the early go-ahead goal. The Eagles tacked on one more goal in the half as Adrian Boyden (Junior) finished a break-away ball from May.
The second half was again all Eagles as Cassidy hit a screamer from 23 yards out into the back of the net for the three-goal cushion thanks to a pass from Trent Elzinga (Junior).
The Eagles next face Unity Christian this afternoon (4:00 pm) for a non-conference battle.
