The Boys Varsity Eagles soccer team returned to Cedar Springs Thursday evening to face a tough Petoskey team in the Regional Finals. The Northmen of Petoskey came out strong in hopes of pressuring the Eagles defense, but the Eagles defense held strong as they began gaining control of the possession battle throughout the first half. With the both teams creating chances in the first half, neither team was able to get the ball into the net, leaving the result hanging in the balance for the final 40-minute period. 

The Eagles continued to build on their first half momentum as the 2nd half started. With the pressure mounting on the Petoskey defense, the Eagles struck midway through the half when senior Nick Cassiday was able to shake several defenders on a corner kick play and slot the ball through traffic into the Petoskey net. Just a minute after notching the first goal, the Eagles retook possession and worked the ball forward to senior Hans Pruis who was able to get the ball near the endline and slot a cross back for senior Ben Kuiper who nodded in the 2nd goal of them match, doubling the Eagles margin. 

The final minutes of the match saw Petoskey pressing forward trying to get a goal back while the Eagles defended stoutly and countered, creating more chances as the clock ticked down to 0:00. 

The 2-0 victory sealed the Regional Championshp for the Eagles and earned a spot in the State Semifinals next Wednesday evening (7:00 kickoff at Byron Center soccer complex).
