The #6 ranked Eagles (Division 3) hosted Division 2 Northview at Gainey Thursday in a non-conference matchup under overcast skies. It turned out to be a great bounce-back win for the Eagles after a disappointing result Wednesday. The visiting Wildcats had no answers for the onslaught as the Eagles cruised to a 8-0 victory.
Cade Boender and Owen Greer were the first to dispatch their Wildcat foes at #4 doubles 6-0, 6-0. Simon Volkema had an identical result at #1 Singles, while Tanner Warners and Grant Moorhead followed suit at #1 Doubles, winning 6-1, 6-0. The #3 Doubles squad of Devin Meeuwsen and Charlie Walters cruised 6-2, 6-3, while Sam VanSchepen and Dan Betten won 6-2,6-2 at #2.
The Eagles battled at 2,3 and 4 Singles, playing great competitive gritty matches. Alex Lowell overcame a pesky opponent, winning 7-5, 6-1. Alex Cook took a different route with the same result, winning 6-1, 6-4. Eli Kuiper, pressed into duty at #4 Singles instead of his normal doubles slot, came through in strong fashion, winning the first set 7-5 and dominating the second set 6-0. Closing out the Tennis for the afternoon, Sophomore Ethan DeBlecourt gave the Wildcats no reason to celebrate whatsoever, beating his opponent at #5 Singles 6-2.
The team adapted very well to some lineup changes due to the injury of Senior #4 Singles player Jack Long in preparation for a tough tournament against primarily ranked Division 2 foes at Midland Dow High School Saturday.
