The Forest Hills Eastern Hawks hosted the Varsity Eagles football team on Friday, Spet 27th for the 5th game of the season.  Kickoff for the game was moved up to 5:00 PM due to health concerns.

The first quarter of the contest saw both teams playing very well defensively.  They would trade multiple possessions but ultimately end the quarter as the game began at a 0-0 tie.  It would take long in the second quarter for the Eagles to get the scoring going. Eason Harduin completed a long pass down the sideline to CJ Jones that was ruled out of bounds at the 3 yard line.  Jones would take a direct snap on the following play in for a 3 yard touchdown for the first points of the game.  After the Hawks countered with a touchdown of their own, Grand Rapids Christian would respond almost immediately.  This time, with a 25 yard touchdown reception by Jordan Dockery to put the Eagles back up by a touchdown.  Closing in on the end of the first half, the Hawks scored a touchdown to tie the game, only to be answered again by the Eagles.  Thad Gamble would take a short pass from Eason Harduin 65 yards for the touchdown.  This put the Eagles ahead 21-14 to end the half.

Late in the third quarter, with the Eagles threatening the first score of the second half, lighting in the area triggered the officials to call a rain delay.  The delay would ultimately end up turning into a game postponement, ending play for the night.

The game resumed on Saturday at 9:00 AM exactly where it left off.  The Eagles first and 10 from the Hawks 14 yard line with 3:46 left in the quarter.  Thad Gamble would take a handoff and carry for a 1 yard touchdown run 4 plays later.  This gave the Eagles a 2 touchdown lead to start the fourth quarter.  The Hawks would add a touchdown in the fourth to bring the game close, but GRC would prove to much in the end.  Thad Gamble would add his third touchdown of the day late in the game to preserve the Eagles 2 touchdown lead.  Gamble, again contributing heavily in the Eagles offensive effort, ended the day with 25 carries for 133 yards and added 2 receptions for an additional 93 yards.   CJ Jones would end the Hawks try for a late score with an interception to cap the game and give the Eagles their 3rd win of the season.

Final score, 35-21.  This puts the Eagles above .500 at 3 wins and 2 losses for the season.

Eason Harduin had a great day passing for the Eagles completing 20 passes on 27 attempts for 302 yards and 2 touchdowns.  For the second week in a row, Jordan Dockery led all receivers with 7 catches for 40 yards and a touchdown.

Many players recorded tackles for the Eagles defense with Davion Gillen leading the way with 6 solo and 4 assisted.  Among his 5 solo tackles and 2 assists, JaMartae Hogan was all over the field, recording a sack, 2 tackles for loss and 2 pass breakups for the Christian defense.
