Caleb Pugh Places 7th at State Finals Wrestling Tournament

Sophomore Caleb Pugh placed 7th in the heavyweight division of the Wrestling State Finals. After building an 11-1 lead, Caleb pinned his first opponent in 4:51. Caleb fell behind 1-5 in his quarterfinal match and battled back to tie it with 44 seconds left. He ended up giving up a locked hands penalty and reversal with 12 seconds left to fall short of advancing to the semifinals. In Caleb's blood round match, he was all business. After a 3-0 lead from a takedown in the first period, Caleb chose bottom to start the second period. After a quick reversal off the whistle, Caleb pinned his opponent 5 seconds later to earn all-state honors. Saturday morning started out with a tight match, tied 2-2 when Caleb found himself in a scramble situation, caught on his back and was unable to get back to his stomach, being pinned in 2:52. In his 7th place match, Caleb was back to his pinning ways, defeating his opponent by fall in 3:24.
Caleb ended the season with an outstanding record of 37-7 with 28 of those wins being by pin. He placed in every tournament this season and never lost twice on the same day. He was All-Conference in the OK White as well as All-State. As a team, the wrestlers finished the year earning Academic All-State honors as well.
