Girls Varsity Basketball Falls to Newaygo

Eagles Lose: 46 - 47
In an intense ending, the Eagles finished their season tonight after a hard fought game against Newaygo. The girls finished, as they started, playing hard and passionate to the very end. While shots were not falling on offense, the Eagles fought to get stops on defense to stay in the game. They were led tonight on offense by Evie Doezema with 16 points and 13 rebounds and Liv Brunink with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Rory Pruis and Savannah Baker also brought much needed energy and got to the foul line, Rory going 5-6 and Savannah 3-4. This team has a lot to be proud of this season and ended with a fight.

Eagles Win: 47 - 34
The Varsity Girls took home the district championship Friday night after an intense first half battle with the Cougars. The Eagles found a way to push the ball in transition, find good outside looks and continue to get defensive stops. The energy in the gym was intensified with four 3 pointers from Emma Witte, leading the way on offense with 21 points. She also went 100% from the foul line along with Rory Pruis who finished with 10 points. The Eagles now head to the Regional semi-final Tuesday at 5:30 at Sparta High School.

Eagles Win: 62 - 27
The Eagles flew through another District game Wednesday night. FHE came with a game plan with their third match-up on the year and slowed the Eagles typical scoring pace for a quarter. However, the girls quickly made adjustments and found their rhythm. Claire Cassiday got the bench going and kept it going, hitting 4 three pointers combining for her 12 points. Rory Pruis added big tie ups on defense and as a team they found Evie Doezema who added 13 points for the game high. Katie Winkle and Hannah Sall also both went 100% from the foul line. The Eagles return Friday for the District final at 7:00 at Forest Hills Eastern versus Catholic Central.

Eagles Win: 66 - 24
The Eagles dominated Monday night in a very exciting first game of Districts. The girls got off to a quick start and never looked back, combining their tenacious defense and consistent offense to pull away from the very beginning. They played great team basketball and did a great job finding each other in transition. For scoring on the night, Liv Brunink led the team with 18 and went 6-6 from the foul line. Evie Doezema had 16 and also added 10 rebounds. Rory Pruis also stepped up and went 100% from the line. The Eagles face their next round of competition tomorrow night at 7:00 at FHE.

Eagles Win: 48 - 40
The Eagles competed in their last regular season game Friday night and they were not going to let the Sailors walk off with a win. Throughout the first three quarters, the Sailors battled and the Eagles played pretty even. However, the 4th quarter the Eagles found their rhythm and started to pull away led by huge minutes and scores by Rory Pruis. The Eagles scored 14 points in the 4th to lock it down and come out with another conference victory. Emma Witte led the team in scoring yet again with 15 and Evie Doezema added 13. The Eagles are back on Monday with their first round of Districts at FHE at 7:00.

Eagles Win: 55 - 34
The Eagles secured another conference win Tuesday night with a strong team win against Wayland. The Eagles pushed the ball and attacked hard on the glass to really force the Wildcats to stick to the Eagles tempo. Emma Witte strongly controlled the pace of the game with her consistent ball handling and a solid 19 points in just 3 quarters. Haily McBride and Claire Cassiday each contributed 8 points on offense and forced some big turnovers. The Eagles return for their last regular season game Friday night at 6:00 at South Christian.

Eagles Win: 59 - 30
The Eagles had the energy to start as they celebrated Senior Night with a unique starting line-up. Back for the night to celebrate her 4 years was co-captain TaNyla Billups who contributed the first basket of the game. This fired up the crowd and the Eagles built from there. They were able to force many turnovers and find great shots on offense. Leading the team in the scoring column was Emma Witte with 12 and Katie Winkle with 11. Rory Pruis had 5 and Courtney Dykhouse followed with 4 to round out our three seniors. The Eagles will be back Tuesday night at Wayland.

Eagles Lose: 59 - 63
In a cross conference battle Tuesday night the Eagles came ready to play. Seeing what the Pioneers were capable of last matchup had the girls ready to come out fighting. With confident defense and some strong offensive takes, the Eagles were able to keep the game close. With 4 minutes left the game was tied at 50 and the Eagles fought until the very end. Emma Witte and Haily McBride both had 13 points and Evie Doezema and Liv Brunink each had 10. It was a strong and balanced team effort, they return Friday night against Forest Hills Eastern at 6:00 for senior night.

Eagles Win: 57 - 39
The Eagles played a complete game Friday night playing with great intensity from start to finish.  They beat the Wolves from Wyoming 57-39. Grand Rapids Christian was lead in rebounds by guards Haily McBride (8 rebounds) and Emma Witte (9 rebounds).  Emma Witte and Liv Brunink went a perfect 100% from the free throw line. As a team the Eagles did a great job on defense keeping Wyoming out of the lane.  The Eagles play again Tuesday night at home at 6:00 against East Grand Rapids!

Eagles Win: 71 - 57
The Eagles came out strong against Thornapple Kellogg on Tuesday night as they took a 21-10 lead after the first quarter.  Grand Rapids Christian was lead in scoring by Haily McBride with 24 points.  Liv Brunink had 16 points and Emma Witte had 12.  Evie Doezema did a great job on the boards finishing with 12 rebounds and 7 points.  Rory Pruis provided a great spark off the bench as she finished with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 6 assists.  The Eagles will head to Wyoming on Friday night and take on the Wolves at 6:00.

Eagles Win: 53 - 50
The Eagles had a very close one Thursday night as Covenant Christian tried to come from behind throughout the second half. The girls were able to stay composed on offense to keep the win and were able to get key stops down the stretch. Savannah Baker had an incredible first half as she kept the Eagles fans screaming with great takes on offense. She finished the game with 9 points and went 100% from the FT line! Liv Brunink added 13 points as the high scorer on the night and Haily McBride also put up 9. The Eagles come back Tuesday to take on TK once again and start their second round of conference play.

Eagles Win: 55 - 40
The Eagles battled Friday night to defeat South Christian in their last conference showdown. Evie Doezema topped the stats with another double double, scoring 14 points and adding 13 rebounds. Emma Witte also had 14 points and 3 steals. The Eagles were able to pressure the Sailors on defense to create turnovers and pull away down the stretch. The Eagles return Thursday night against Covenant Christian at home.

The Eagles came out hot tonight and really lit up the offensive glass. It was a great overall team win with an early lead from the beginning. Emma Witte dominated on offense and defense with 22 points, 8 steals, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Haily McBride contributed 12 points, and Katie Winkle and Liv Brunink each had 11. The Eagles return for another big league match-up Friday at South Christian.

Eagles Win: 60 - 10
The Eagles came out intense and ready to stop the Hawks of Forest Hills Eastern, outscoring them in the first quarter 31-4 and holding the Hawks to 0 points in the second quarter. The Eagles played lockdown defense and gave FHE very few scoring opportunities. Liv Brunink dominated on offense with 16 points and Claire Cassiday showed up big with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Emma Witte also contributed 12 points. The Eagles return Tuesday night against Wayland Union.

The Eagles suffered a tough loss across town at EGR Tuesday night. With a strong start and a competitive first quarter, the Eagles were not able to keep pace with the hot-shooting Pioneers. Evie Doezema led on offense again with 14 points and Liv Brunink followed with 8. Haily McBride and Emma Witte each had 6. The Eagles return Friday night at Forest Hills Eastern for another conference showdown.

Eagles Win: 57 - 51
The Varsity Eagles fought their way to a big win tonight against a very aggressive Wyoming team. Wyoming came out strong with talented peripheral shooters, but the Eagles did not back down from the challenge. Liv Brunink started the fast pace in the first quarter and ended up finishing with a double double scoring 16 points and contributing 10 assists. Evie Doezema also had a huge game with 26 points. The Eagles return Tuesday night against crosstown rivals East Grand Rapids Pioneers

Eagles Lose: 48 - 55
The Eagles lost a tough one last night on the road at Thornapple Kellogg. GRC was led in scoring by Liv Brunink with 13 points, Emma Witte and Rory Pruis both finished with 10. The Eagles will face another tough conference opponent when they take on Wyoming at 6:00 in the Quest Center Friday night.

Eagles Win: 50 - 45
The Eagles came out ready for another victory tonight and topped Zeeland East for the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament Championship. They converted well on offense and were able to pull away and lead for the whole game. Evie Doezema was named MVP of the tournament and had another double double with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Rory Pruis was also named to the all tournament team and had 5 rebounds and 11 points tonight. The Eagles return January 14th with the start of conference play.

Eagles Win: 69 - 65
The Eagles came back from Christmas for an incredible battle Thursday night at Cornerstone. They fought hard and came out on top despite a halftime deficit. Evie Doezema recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds, she also had 5 blocks. Haily McBride also contributed big with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Rory Pruis and Claire Cassiday were also in double figures with 15 and 12 respectively. It was an awesome team win and the Eagles remain undefeated. They return Saturday at 5:30 at Cornerstone.

Eagles Win: 54 - 44
The Eagles came out on top in a high intensity overtime finish Friday night at the Holland Civic. The Eagles led for most of the game, and really pulled ahead in overtime as they scored 12 to Holland Christian's 2 in the 4 minute OT. Emma Witte commanded the court with 20 points and Liv Brunink followed with 14. The Eagles return for their holiday games at Cornerstone on the 26th.

Eagles Win: 43 - 30
The Varsity girls came out strong tonight against the Catholic Central Cougars to add another win! It was a very strong defensive effort by the Eagles led by Emma Witte with 5 steals and Evie Doezema with 5 blocks. Both Witte and Doezema scored 8 points and Doezema also added 8 rebounds. Claire Cassiday went 4 for 4 from the foul line and added 7 points. The Eagles hit the road now and head to The Civic Center Friday night to face the Holland Christian Maroons.

Eagles Win: 48 - 24
The Eagles had another big win Friday night in a benefit game against NorthPointe Christian. They were able to really pull away as they found their defensive pace and really shut NorthPointe down. The Eagles found rhythm on offense with Emma Witte scoring 18, finding 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Claire Cassiday also contributed big offensively with 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 steals and Evie Doezema owned the boards with 11 rebounds and 7 points. Another great team win, the varsity Eagles return Tuesday in a home match-up against Catholic Central.

Eagles Win: 44 - 29
The Eagles had a very fun team win in Hudsonville Friday night with 9 players contributing offensively. Liv Brunink led the offensive front with 11 points and 8 rebounds followed by Emma Witte with 7 points. Big baskets from Lily Gaastra and Courtney Dykhouse kept the crowd going. The Eagles also put up a strong defensive effort keeping Unity under 30 points. The Eagles return next week with more non conference action.

The varsity girls started the season off strong winning their first game tonight. Powers Catholic came out ready to score and the Eagles adjusted well on defense, Evie Doezema kept them off the glass with 8 rebounds and 3 blocks and Liv Brunink followed with 5 rebounds. On offense the girls found their rhythm and pulled away to give themselves a great lead. Emma Witte led the offensive front with 16 points and 2 steals, and Liv Brunink contributed 13 points. The eagles return Friday with a game at Unity High School at 7:00.
