Eagles Win: 54.00 - 11.00
The Varsity Eagles had a commanding victory Monday night to start their postseason tournament. Paige Ferwerda hit the first bucket and didn't look back as she scored 17 points and had 7 steals in just three quarters. Charley Hassenrik was right there with her, adding 10 points, 4 steals, 3 assists and a block! Keira Dawes was next on the stats sheet with 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Mags Cumming also added 8 points, knocking down two of her signature 3 balls. Then came the crowd favorite one-two punch of Ellie VandeGriend and Anna VanHeulen, each scoring 4 points a piece and getting to the line on hard contested and completed layups. It was a great team effort and was definitely a great way to cap off a season of competition in the Quest Center. Now the girls hit the road for another game 5:30 at Forest Hills Eastern on Wednesday.

Eagles Lose: 27.00 - 42.00
The Varsity girls finished their regular season Thursday with a night of celebration honoring two of the best people our program knows. Annelle Dykema and Anna VanHeulen have been blessings in every area of their lives and having them on the basketball court with us has been a privilege. Dykema was unable to play due to illness but was able to participate in the opening tip-off in true humble Annelle fashion. With this tone for the night, the Eagles played a great final regular season game. The girls hung with a talented Crusader team, forcing steals and playing great team defense. Paige Ferwerda was the leader on the stats sheet again adding 15 points. Anna VanHeulen fans lined the gym and went wild for her efforts in the 4th quarter, it was a night to remember. Thanks for everything Annelle and Anna, we are all better because you were here.  Eagles get another competition Monday night to start Districts at home at 6:00. Come support!

Friday night the Eagles were able to host their last Friday night contest against the Rangers of Forest Hills Central. While the offensive start was slow for our girls, they worked hard and fought back to find baskets in the second quarter. Rae Cummings, Lydia Ydenberg and Paige Ferwerda were the spark on offense that was needed and sent the Eagles into halftime with a little more pep. The 3rd quarter was the best showing on the night, not allowing any Ranger baskets in the third. This coupled with Lilah Poel grabbing boards and making shots helped narrow the margin. Ferwerda and Poel were the highs on the night with 8 a piece and Charley Hassenrik added 7 and a lot of defensive pressure. The last week of the regular season begins today.

Eagles Win: 42.00 - 40.00
The Varsity Eagles pulled out a well earned victory Thursday night in the Quest Center. The girls came out hungry, eager for a victory and ready to work for it. Paige Ferwerda was back in action and found an early triple to get the scoring under way. Mags Cumming joined the efforts with two baskets followed by Cassidy Holtz, bringing the team into the second quarter on top. Alexis Willis made her varsity debut on back to back possessions with baskets, not a bad addition by the freshman. Lilah Poel wanted in on the scoring and she did not stop there, she would end up being an incredibly valuable asset against the Yellow Jackets. Going into halftime the Eagles were up 3, but knew they would have to keep their pace to stay in this game.  While the third quarter was slower on offense, the Eagles stayed poised and worked hard to keep their composure. The 4th quarter was a thriller with Cumming getting hot and adding to her game high 16 points. Ferwerda found her sole basket in the 4th at the most important moment, with seconds left to force OT. It gave the Eagles the spark they needed to pull it out in the end. Ferwerda helped control the tempo in the extra period to get Lilah Poel scoring at will. She then fed Poel a final time, with seconds left and the score squared at 40, Poel laid it in right before time expired, the gym was electric. Poel finished with 10 points and her first game winner and Ferwerda chipped in 8. The Eagles will rest until next week after an exhilarating win!

Eagles Lose: 39.00 - 47.00

The game started as they have been with a Rae Cummings 3 pointer and Paige Ferwerda jumped on that train hitting a three ball and two more jumpers all in the first. Za'Nya Mosley added some fire off the bench in the second and Lydia Ydenberg found the basket before time expired in the first half. The Eagles went into halftime down 3 , but Annelle Dykema came out swinging and drained some shots in the third to put the girls ahead by 1 going into the 4th. However, the Wildcats made good defensive shifts in the 4th, stopping a lot of the Eagles momentum. The foul line proved dangerous as Jenison put the game away with free throws. Ferwerda led with 15 followed by R. Cummings with 8. The Eagles will come back Tuesday at Hudsonville.

Paige Ferwerda came out strong early and propelled the team into some scoring on offense, coupled with some tenacity on D from Rae Cummings that helped the Eagles stick within reach in the first half. Wyoming struck first to start the second and the pedal came down a bit from the Wolves. Charley Hassenrik and Annelle Dykema were vital to success down the stretch, grabbing every loose ball and every board. It was a tough finish, but hard fought. Ferwerda and Mags Cumming both put up 11 as team highs. Eagles will return tomorrow at home against Jenison.
Girls Varsity Basketball Falls to South Christian

Eagles Lose: 40.00 - 56.00
The Eagles tipped off the season Tuesday night against the Sailors of South Christian in an intense return to competition. While the Eagles are a young squad, they proved that they have what it takes to claw back despite strong opponents! It was a tight match to start, trading buckets throughout the first. The Eagles found some fuel with a big bucket from freshman Charley Hassenrik and then tried to string together some stops. The Sailors made it hard and went on a big run in the second, shooting lights out from behind the arc. With a fire lit in the locker room at halftime, the Eagles came out a different team in the final 16 minutes. They did not allow another 3 pointer the rest of the game and it was time for them to step up on offense. Mags Cumming was the spark needed in the third with back to back triples. Cassidy Holtz also added a fan favorite bucket that riled up the crowd. Paige Ferwerda controlled the tempo finding passes around the outside, helping Mags Cumming become the team high 15 points, totaling 5 three pointers! Ferwerda added 9 points and Rae Cummings added 2 final three pointers to seal the deal. The Eagles found some grit and outscored the Sailors 26-17 in the second half. The girls are back Friday night against Wyoming!
