Girls Varsity Cross Country vs. State Finals

Eagles Lose: -
With an incredible 4 Eagles earning "all-state", the Eagles took home a runner-up trophy. Madelyn Frens became the 2021 division 2 State Champion, when she took over first with less than 500 meters to go and never looked back. She was followed closely by Sophmore teammate Natalie VanOtteren in 4th place. Also earning "all-state" were Sophmores Naomi Nelson and Payton Holtz in 29th and 30th. Next came Katelyn LaRue in 77th, Sarah Timmer in 110th, and Jenna Pegman in 170th.  Top 4 teams on the day - EGR 66, Eagles 99, Petoskey 136, FHE 179

The Eagles took first place in the regional meet and head off to the state final this coming Saturday. As they have for many races this season, Madelyn Frens and Natalie VanOtteren went 1st and 2nd in the meet. They were followed by Payton Holtz in 6th, Naomi Nelson in 10th, Sarah Timmer in 12th, Katelyn LaRue in 13th, and Jenna Pegman in 22nd. State finals details can be found at the MHSAA web site.  Top 3 teams - Eagles 31, Springlake 54, Allendale 81

Eagles Lose: -
The Eagles narrowly missed any upset in the OK White final, finishing second to EGR by just 1 point. Madelyn Frens pulled away from a group of 4 other runners over the final mile to take first. Natalie VanOtteren was next in 4th, Naomi Nelson 10th, Payton Holtz 12th, and Sarah Timmer 21st for the Eagle scorers. Katelyn LaRue in 26th and Jenna Pegman in 36th completed the Eagles top 7.  Madelyn, Natalie, Naomi, and Payton all earned All-Conference. Top 3 teams - EGR 47, Eagles 48, FHC + FHN 89

Eagles Lose: -
The Eagles finished 6th at the County Meet Saturday. Sarah Timmer led the Eagles in 23rd, followed by Adia Sikkema in 30th, Lily Teitsma in 31st, Jenna Pegman in 32nd, and Katelyn LaRue in 36th.  The Eagle JV squad finished in 2nd place led by Anna Lindstrom in 10th, Anika Bouman in 15th, Kiersten Schmitt in 16th, Ana Heagle in 21st, and Kaitlyn Aupperlee in 35th. The Eagles compete in the OK White final Wednesday at South Christian.

The Eagles finished in 4th in the 49 team field Saturday at Portage. Madelyn Frens took 2nd, Natalie VanOtteren finished 6th, Payton Holtz finished 25th, Sarah Timmer was 70th, Katelyn LaRue 110th, and Lily Tietsma 112th.  Top 4 varsity teams - EGR 88, Petoskey 120, FHE 166, Eagles 211 The Eagle JV team finished in 5th place. Jenna Pegman was 2nd, Allie Groenenboom 6th, Gigi Jones was 38th, Lilianna Wilstermann was 40th, and Anna Lindstrom 53rd. Top 5 JV teams - EGR 35, Spring Lake 62, South Christian 65, Ann Arbor Richard 114 Eagles 120

A 1,2 finish for the Eagles wasn't enough to overcome EGR Wednesday night in Greenville. Madelyn Frens and Natalie VanOtteren (PR ) pulled away from everybody to claim the top 2 spots. Next came Sophomores Naomi Nelson and Payton Holtz who both PR'ed in 12th and 13th. Three juniors, Katelyn LaRue, Lily Teitsma, and Sarah Timmer, in 27th, 29th, and 35th completed the Eagles top 7. Other PR's on the day - Allie Groenenboom, Ana Heagle, Gigi Jones, Molly Padilla, Robyn Tatko, and Hannah-Grace Wildschut. Top 3 teams - EGR 36, GRCHS 56, FHC 81

The girls finished 4th in a star studded team race, just 8 points out of 2nd. Natalie VanOtteren led the Eagles in 2nd, followed by Naomi Nelson in 13th, Payton Holtz in 22nd, Katelyn LaRue in 34th, Sarah Timmer in 36th, Lily Teitsma in 58th, and Jenna Pegman in 63rd.  The JV team was led by Allie Groenenboom in 5th, Molly Padilla in 10th, and Robyn Tatko in 15th. The Eagles finished third in the Cougar division @ the Gainey Saturday. Sophomore Natalie VanOtteren won the race in 18:46. Naomi Nelson was 7th, Payton Holtz was 10th, Sarah Timmer 21st, and Jenna Pegman 27th.  Top Eagle JV on the day was Robyn Tatko and top Freshman on the day was Ana Heagle. Top three varsity teams - EGR 36, St Joseph 60, Eagles 65 The Eagles travel to Otsego Saturday. Races begin at 10:00.

Nearly every Eagle set a new PR or season's best as cooler weather brought out the best. Although we ran our best by far this season, it wasn't enough to upend a strong team from EGR. Madelyn Frens returned to racing for the first time in several weeks and finished 4th. Natalie VanOtteren PR'ed in 7th. Rounding out the scoring 5 was Naomi Nelson in 13th, Payton Holtz in 19th, and Katelyn LaRue in 25th.  Top 3 teams - EGR 40, Eagles 68, FHC 80

The Eagles were able to hold off a pesky Traverse City St Francis team by 7 points Friday. Leading the way for the Eagles was Natalie VanOtteren in 1st. Naomi Nelson and Payton Holtz came next in 10th and 11th, and Anna Triezenberg and Katelyn LaRue rounded out the top 5 in 16th & 17th.  Top 3 varsity scores: Eagles 51, TC St Francis 58, Plainwell 105 The JV race was dominated by the Eagles as they swept the top 6 spots. In order the Eagles were Robyn Tatko, Liliana Wilstermann, Molly Padilla, Anika Bouwman, Anna Lindstrom, and Hannah Grace Wildschut. Top 3 JV scores: Eagles 15, Plainwell 60, Holland Chr 64

The Eagles prevailed in the annual Christian Schools Invite Saturday. Natalie VanOtteren paced the Eagles for the second straight race finishing 2nd overall. The Eagles took the top 3 JV spots when Lily Tietsma, Sarah Timmer, and Ava Tatko went 1,2,3. In all 17 of the 26 Eagles set a PR or season's best Saturday, Top three varsity schools - Eagles 40, Covenant 55, Illianna 65 Top three JV schools - Eagles 34, South 48, Covenant 80

It's not very often that you see a group of 5 runners still tight together with only 200 meters left in a 5k race, but that's exactly what transpired at Gainey Wednesday. Sophomore Natalie VanOtteren was able to outkick them all to earn first place for the Eagles. The next 3 Eagles were also Sophomores with Payton Holtz in 10th, Naomi Nelson in15th, and Adia Sikkema in 17th. They were followed by Juniors Katelyn LaRue in 19th and Anna Triezenberg in 25th, then Senior Jenna Pegman in 37th. Setting PR's for the girls were Allie Groenenboom,  and Ava Jansen.  Top 3 teams: EGR 37  GRCHS 62  FHC 82 The Eagles race again Saturday at South Christian
Girls Varsity Cross Country @ Benzie Invite

Eagles Lose: -
The Eagles finished third in the 29 team large school division at Benzie Saturday. Senior Madelyn Frens finished third, breaking the 18 minute berrier in the first race of the season in 17:56. Finishing 8th was Sophomore Natalie VanOtteren. Sophomore Payton Holtz ran a PR time of 20:10 and finished 37th, . Eagle teammates Adia Sikkema, Naomi Nelson, Anna Triezenberg, and Katelyn LaRue all finished just 10 seconds apart  to complete the Eagle scoring. The Eagles had the best 7th runner on the day, a testament to great team depth.
