Eagles Win: 2 - 0

In a GR South Conference clash on Wednesday night, Grand Rapids Christian defeated Thornapple Kellogg 25-18, 25-9 in front of a home crowd at the Quest Center. Senior Outside Hitter Willem Gronsman was dominant in the win, finishing with 7 kills and 0 errors on 10 hitting attempts. Senior Middle Blocker Elijah Compagner capitalized on his three hitting attempts, turning all three into kills. Two of these came on consecutive plays late in the first set, crucially helping the Eagles seize momentum to close out the set and propel them to a dominant victory in set number two. Compagner added 2 service aces as well. The win moves Grand Rapids Christian to 10-6 overall on the season, and a perfect 4-0 in GR South conference play. The Eagles return to action on Saturday in Cornerstone University's annual Battle of the Mitten tournament.

The Eagles were swept 3-0 by a strong Holland Christian team on Monday night. Grand Rapids Christian was unable to slow down the powerful Maroons' offense in the 17-25, 14-25, 14-25 loss. Seniors Willem Gronsman and George Boville led the Eagles with 4 kills each. Next up for Grand Rapids Christian are GR South conference matchups with Caledonia and Thornapple Kellogg at the Quest Center on Wednesday night.

Eagles Win: 2 - 1

In a key early season GR South Conference matchup, Grand Rapids Christian rallied against East Kentwood to emerge with a 19-25, 26-24, 15-8 victory on Wednesday night. After dropping the opening set, the Eagles faced match point at 23-24 in the second set, but battled back to force a third set. In the decider, Senior George Boville sparked a dominant effort by the Eagles with an early serving run, and finished the match with 5 kills, 4 aces, and 3 blocks. Senior Joey Pastoor led Grand Rapids Christian with 8 kills, and junior Marc Maurus added 5 kills to go along with 2 blocks.

The Eagles swept Thornapple Kellogg in two sets on Wednesday night, 25-16, 25-19, pushing their Grand Rapids South Conference record to 3-0 this season. George Boville and Joey Pastoor led GRC with 7 kills each. After a strong week of play in which they went 4-1 overall, the Eagles return to action on Monday, April 22 with a non-conference matchup against Holland Christian High School.

Eagles Lose: -

The Eagles traveled to Grand Haven for a non-conference Quad on Monday night. Grand Rapids Christian opened the evening with a 3-set victory over Spring Lake HS, 25-15, 22-25, 15-8. Setters Constantine Kim and Eli Wise led a well-balanced offense, with George Boville and Joey Pastoor each recording 5 kills, and Marc Maurus adding 4 kills on 6 attempts. In their second match, the Eagles defeated Mona Shores 25-21, 25-16, led again by Pastoor with 7 kills (0 hitting errors) and Willem Gronsman with 5. In their final match of the evening, Grand Rapids Christian came out sluggish against a tough Grand Haven team, dropping the first set 13-25. They rebounded in Set #2, but ultimately fell by a score of 22-25. The Eagles return to action on Wednesday night with GR South Conference matchups with East Kentwood and Thornapple Kellogg.

Eagles Lose: 1 - 2

The Eagles lost a tough 3-set match to the Pumas of Potter's House High School on Friday night, 25-14, 23-25, 13-15. After a dominating first set by GR Christian, Potter's House elevated their level and took control of the momentum in winning the final two sets. A last-ditch rally by the Eagles fell just short in the 3rd set, as they came back from an 8-14 deficit to get back within one at 13-14, but the Pumas finally capitalized with a kill to finish the match. Freshman Outside Hitter Jack Scholten made his varsity debut for the Eagles and led the team with 6 kills on 14 hitting attempts.

Eagles Win: 3 - 1

The Eagles secured a 25-14, 23-25, 25-15, 25-11 victory in an impressive road performance Tuesday afternoon against the Huskies of Forest Hills Northern High School. Grand Rapids Christian led a balanced offensive effort, with seniors Elijah Compagner, George Boville and Joey Pastoor, and junior Henry Snow each contributing 8+ kills for the match. Senior Evan Bergsma closed out the Huskies with a kill on match point in his first game action with the varsity team. Conference play begins after Spring Break with games against Caledonia and East Kentwood on 4/10.

The Eagles opened their season on Saturday with 4 matches at Impact Dynamic Training's annual preseason tournament. Grand Rapids Christian drew a tough opening schedule, first facing off with defending Division 2 state champion Lowell. The Eagles went toe-to-toe with a tough Red Arrows team, but ultimately fell short (19-25, 17-25).  Up next GRC faced off with a very strong Kalamazoo Force team and lost in straight sets (19-25, 12-25). In their crossover pool, the Eagles lost a tight 3-setter to Holland Christian (21-25, 25-18, 11-15), before salvaging a straight-set victory over Saugatuck High School (25-22, 25-16). Despite the 1-3 record for the day, GRC showcased strong blocking and improved offensive efficiency; promising takeaways from their first day of game action. Up next for the Eagles is a matchup at Forest Hills Northern High School on Tuesday, 3/26.
