An identical score as Monday's matchup between the JV Eagles and the Red Arrows of Lowell, the result swung toward the JV Eagles' favor Wednesday. The JV Eagles put together 15 hits as a team. Dane Fitzgibbon collected three hits, including a double in the 3rd inning and Brandt Alles hit three of his own. They were assisted by Will Bush's two hits and Alberto Aliaga's two hits. Luke Olney's RBI double in the 1st inning opened up the score board. In the 3rd inning, the JV Eagles scored six runs off six hits, two from Sam DeYoung and Aliaga. After a few runs in the first three innings for Lowell, the JV Eagles tied the game with a five run boost from a single by Dane Fitzgibbon, a walk by Luke Ekkens, and a double by Luke Olney. The JV Eagles opened up the scoring in the 1st inning after Brandt Alles knocked in a run. Then, in the 2nd inning, the JV Eagles added another two runs after Ike Ondersma doubled and Henry Meyer scored off an error. In the 3rd, the JV Eagles put up two more runs. After a blip in the 4th inning, they went on to add five more in the bottoms of the 5th and 6th innings. Will Ferwerda tossed an absolute Complete Game gem, stranding a miriad of Greenville runners, allowing no runs, and striking out eight over the six innings. Ondersma collected two hits, stole a base, and slapped in two Eagle runners. Alles also amassed three hits.

The JV Eagles got on the board in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd innings extending a 5-1 lead. Following the quick offensive outburst, the JV Eagles scored four runs in the 6th and 7th to reach their final score. Luke Olney started on the mound for the JV Eagles, allowing no earned runs over six innings pitched. He also struck out six Yellow Jacket hitters. Brandt Alles finished the game for Olney, striking out all three batters he faced.

Even though the JV Eagles amassed 12 hits to East Grand Rapids' 8, they still fell to the Pioneers 11-6 in Game 1 on Monday. Dane Fitzgibbon led the JV Eagles with three hits of his own. Will Ferwerda started on the bump for the JV Eagles, giving up four hits over 3 innings pitched. Ferwerda struck out three Pioneer batters, walking none, and allowing no earned runs. Luke Olney and Brandt Alles collected two hits apiece, and Luke Ekkens stole two bases.

After a quick jump to the lead for the Pioneers, the JV Eagles rose to the challenge in the 4th and 5th innings, taking the lead of their own. In the bottom of the 4th inning, the JV Eagles scored five runs on six hits, including three extra base hits by Brandt Alles, Luke Olney, and Ike Ondersma. Alles began the game on the mound, surrendering two hits over 2 innings pitched, striking out one Pioneer. The JV Eagles collected 15 stolen bases on the day.

Bats were blistered as the JV Eagles screeched to a victory in Game 2 of the doubleheader, led by 14 hits in the game. They came back to win down 11-2 after two and a half innings.The JV Eagles got on the board after Brandt Alles tripled and Luke Olney singled, both scored. In the magical bottom of the 3rd inning, the JV Eagles amassed 11 runs off 8 hits, led by Luke Ekkens, clearing the loaded bases with a double in the right-center gap. Alles began the game, and pitched two innings, striking out 1 Wildcat batter, and giving up 0 earned runs. Will Ferwerda pitched 3.1 innings in relief, surrendering only 1 hit and 0 earned runs. Dane Fitzgibbon went 3-3 at the dish, Isaac Anderson and Ekkens both had 3 RBI, and Alles and Olney both had multiple hits.

A tough 6th inning for the JV Eagles created a gap seemingly insurmountable, as the Wildcats pulled away late in Game 1 of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. Henry Meyer started led things off on the bump, striking out five batters in five innings pitched, only walking one. Meyer also seized his opportunities from the 8th spot in the batting order, scoring two Eagle runners. Will Ferwerda led the JV Eagles with two hits of his own from the leadoff spot.

After a single by Brandt Alles (scoring Will Ferwerda), a groundout by Isaac Anderson (scoring Dane Fitzgibbon), and a single by Sam DeYoung ( scoring Alles and Luke Olney), the JV Eagles had an early 4-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. Fitzgibbon added another run in the 2nd inning off of a single and a Husky error in the 3rd inning scored the last run of the day for the JV Eagles. A masterful performance by Henry Meyer on the bump, allowing only two hits over 6.2 innings and striking out seven. Alles finished the 7th inning for Meyer.

JV Baseball Falls To FH Northern in Game 1 After Big 6th Inning For Huskies, 10-2

After striking first in the 3rd inning, FH Northern were held scoreless until the 6th inning, where they scored six runs. The JV Eagles placed two runs on the board in the 4th and 5th innings to tie it up, but couldn't make the comeback. Tyler Zeck singled to bring home that tying run in the 5th. Will Ferwerda went five strong innings, striking out two Husky batters. Dane Fitzgibbon, Luke Olney, and Zeck collected hits for the JV Eagles. Isaac Anderson drove in a run and stole two bases.

Luke Olney drove in four runs on two hits to lead the JV Eagles past FH Northern in Game 2 of the doubleheader. In the 1st inning, he tripled, scoring three runners. Another triple by Isaac Anderson gave the Eagles the lead in the 2nd inning, 7-6. In the 3rd inning, Dane Fitzgibbon singled on a full count, making the score 8-6. The JV Eagles spread three more runs over the 4th and 5th innings to extend their lead. The Huskies from FH Northern couldn't make the comeback this time.

Quick innings, swinging batters, and cold weather brought together a quick Game 2 finish in the JV Christian Invite. Will Ferwerda started on the mound, striking out two Crusaders in three innings. Henry Meyer came in relief and also struck out two batter over two innings. Sam DeYoung batted in the JV Eagles' only run and Ike Ondersma smacked two doubles.

The JV Eagles got on the board in the first inning after Dane Fitzgibbon knocked in a run via sacrifice fly. Then the lead grew in the second inning with a second run. The Comets came back in the fourth and fifth innings after tying the Eagles. Will Ferwerda led the Eagles with two hits as Fitzgibbon, Ferwerda, and Henry Meyer each drove in one run. Ike Ondersma stole two bags on base.

Eagles Lose: 7.00 - 9.00

The JV Eagles showed late life on Wednesday, coming back from down seven runs in the 5th inning. However, they came up short, losing by two runs. Brandt Alles collected three hits (4th, 6th, 7th innings) and Alberto Aliaga had two hits of his own.

Will Ferwerda - 1 hit, 1 run

Alles - 3 hits, 4 runs, stolen base

The Grand Rapids Christian JV Eagles were defeated by the Byron Center Bulldogs in Game 2 of the doubleheader, 10-1. The JV Eagles struggled to put hits together as the sun set on the evening. Led by Breckton Meeuwsen's double and Brandt Alles' single up the middle, the JV Eagle batters found fatigue to be their enemy. Luke Olney and Will Ferwerda combined for 7 innings, 8 strikeouts, 65% strikes thrown, and 2 earned runs on the mound.

JV Baseball Make Comeback Attempt, But Fall To Byron Center Late In Game 1

Eagles Lose: 9.00 - 10.00

The JV Eagles's effort to come back from being down six runs in the 3rd inning came up just short, as they fell to Byron Center on Monday at the Gainey Athletic Complex. In the bottom of the 5th inning, the Eagles flipped the game on its head, scoring six runs to take the lead, led by Will Ferwerda's two-run single. However, the 11 team hits weren't enough to hold onto the victory.

 

Hitting:

Will Bush - 2 hits (1 triple), 1 run, 2 runs batted in

Isaac Anderson - 1 hit, 2 runs, 1 stolen base

Breckton Meeuwsen - 2 hits (1 double), 1 run, 2 runs batted in, 1 stolen base

Tyler Zeck - 1 hit

Ferwerda - 2 hits, 1 run, 2 runs batted in

Luke Ekkens - 2 hits (1 double), 2 runs, 1 stolen base

 

Pitching:

Anderson - 3 innings, 3 strikeouts

Double Digit Hits Propel the JV Eagles to a Game 1 Victory Against Allendale, 12-2

Eagles Win: 12.00 - 2.00

Luke Olney collected three hits in four at-bats, as Grand Rapids Christian defeated the Falcons of Allendale, 12-2 in the first game of the doubleheader. Olney singled in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th innings. 

The Eagles got on the board first in the 1st inning after Isaac Anderson and Brandt Alles scored runs. Then, in the 3rd inning, Alles singled and scored, Jonas Mulder scored, and Tyler Zeck singled and scored (one of his 3 hits in the game). After two more scores in the 4th, the Eagles scored five more in the 5th, giving some breathing room for the starting pitcher, Mulder, who struck out two Falcons over 2.1 innings. 

Luke Ekkens came in relief and finished the game with five strikeouts over 2.2 innings. 

Anderson and Breckton Meeuwsen scored 3 runs apiece while both Olney and Anderson knocked in two Eagle runners each. 

Neither Team Pulls Away as the JV Eagles Tie Game 2 with Allendale, 11-11

Eagles Lose: 11.00 - 11.00

The Eagles got on the board in the 1st inning again, scoring five Eagle runners. Scattering six more runs over the next six innings. The Falcons had a late resurgence and scored enough to remain in the game until the very end. The basepaths were burning with Eagle feet, as the Eagles stole 13 bases as a team, taking extra bases when they could.

Hitting:

Will Bush - 1 hit, 2 runs, 3 runs batted in, 3 stolen bases

Dane Fitzgibbon - 5 walks, 3 runs, 3 stolen bases

Breckton Meeuwsen - 2 hits, 1 run, 2 runs batted in, 2 runners caught stealing as Catcher

Isaac Anderson - 2 hits (1 double), 2 runs, 1 run batted in

Ike Ondersma - 2 runs, 3 stolen bases

 

Pitching: 

Ondersma - 1.2 innings, 4 strikeouts, 67% strikes

Bush - 1.1 innings, 1 strikeout, 78% strikes

Eagles Win: 6.00 - 5.00

Grand Rapids Christian JV Eagles Grabs Late Lead for Victory Over South Christian Sailors

The Eagles from Grand Rapids Christian topped South Christian, 6-5 on Monday, after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at five runs apiece in the top of the 6th inning when Alberto Aliaga singled, scoring Dane Fitzgibbon, the leading run. 

The Eagles were the first to get on the board in the 1st when Breckton Meeuwsen drew a walk with the bases loaded. The Sailors took the lead in the 3rd inning, but a double by Meeuwsen scored Fitzgibbon, Will Bush, and Isaac Anderson to go back on top, 5-3. The following half-inning, South Christian tied it back up. 

The pitching combination of Will Ferwerda, Luke Olney, Ike Ondersma, Bush, and Anderson amassed 15 strikeouts in 7 innings of play. Fitzgibbon led the Eagles with a pair of singles and runs, while Meeuwsen hit around three Eagle runners. The Eagle lineup practiced patience, getting walked 11 times.
