Freshman Eagles drop game 1 v Forest Hills Central 3-11

The freshman baseball team had a doubleheader vs Forest Hills Central on Tuesday. They dropped game 1, and had the second game rained out after 1.5 innings of play. After playing nearly flawless defense last week, the Eagles defense was less than stellar.  James Krosschell, Nathan Reiffer, and Will Gruennert all worked effectively on the mound, continuing the team’s history of strike throwing. Reiffer had a clutch two-out single to tie the game at 3-3 after 3 innings, and then the wheels fell off. FHC ended up winning the game 11-3. Gruennert led the offense with 2 hits and a walk.

Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate for the second game, and it was canceled. Next up is 2 games at Byron Center @ Byron Center Sports Complex on Thursday.

The Freshman Eagles swept a double header from Lowell on Thursday, winning 11-4 in the first game and 5-0 in the second. The pitchers pounded the strike zone, which kept the fielders on their toes. The squad made several great plays on defense, and only had 1 error over the 2 games. In Game 1, James Krosschell threw a 5 inning complete game and struck out 6, while Nathan Reiffer had 3 strong innings to start game 2. Sam DeYoung and Will Grunnert each pitched a scoreless frame to complete the shutout in game 2. Will DeBlecourt and Zac Buter lead the hit parade with 2 hits apiece.

Freshman baseball swept a doubleheader from Greenville on Tuesday, by scores of 7-4 and 12-4. The squad hit well, with Will Gruenert leading the way with 4 singles. Henry Meyer struck out 9 in Game 1. Will Deblecourt, James Kroschell, and Zac Buter all pitched well in short stints, and Nathan Reiffer threw 2 strong annings to close the door in game 2.
