Girls Varsity Swimming beat Grand Rapids Catholic Central 117-69

Eagles Win: 117.00 - 69
Last night the Eagles ended their week of racing with a win over Catholic Central! We started the meet by going 1 and 3 in the 200 medley relay. Janie Mills took second in the 200 freestyle with a 2:09.57. Kristin Winkle took first in the 200 IM and well and the team took 1 (Carpenter) 2 (Enders) 5 (Vance) in the 50 free to finish the first have of the meet.  Naomi Grix won diving with 181.30 points and qualified for regionals last night! The team went 1,2,3,4(Naomi, Ella, Lilly, Lainy) as well! Lainey VanderPloeg and Ella VandenBerg both had personal PRs for the night!  Grace Carpenter took her second win of the night in the 100 fly to keep the winning streak going for GRC. Kristin Winkle and Janie Mills went 1-2 in the 100 free followed by teammate Emily Herman who took 5th. Piper Sadowski took 1st in the 500 free for the team and Esther Kuperas touched out CC by a half-second to snatch 3rd place in the event. The 200 free C relay (Wolters-Doyle-Taslma-Heerema) took 3rd beating out the B and the A relay took first. A moment for the books there! We finished off the last two individual Events going 3-4-5 in the 100 back (Vance-Speulstra-Heerema) and Kaylee Enders took first in the 100 breast and Violet Taslma took second. Christian high ended the night taking first in the 400 free relay and beating Catholic Central 117-69.

Eagles Lose: -
Last night the Eagles kicked off our meet vs Northview by clinching the 200 Medley State Cut and taking first in the event with a time of 1:55.75 (Carpenter, Enders, Winkle, Mills). Grace Carpenter went from one race to the next grabbing another state cut in the 200 free with a 2:02.19. The Eagles went 3-4 in the 200 IM with Mills-VanderHeide and the first half of the meet closed out with Kristin Winkle taking first in the 50 free. Honorable mentions in the 50 free go to Adeline Sandburg and Madison Wolters who both broke 30 seconds last night! The divers went 1-3-4-6-10 last night with Naomi Grix taking first for GRC. Kristin Winkle and Grace Carpenter both snatched their 500 free state cuts as well going 2-3 in that event with a 5:29.75 from Winkle and a 5:33.67 from Carpenter. The girls turned right around taking first in the 200 free relay with Mills-Carpenter-Enders-Winkle. The B relay took 4th (VanderHiede-Koetje-Taslma-Sandberg) and the D relay took 7 (Kuperus (who just came from the 500)-Thomas-Bergin-Diemer).  GRC fell to Northview but walked away from the meet with multiple state cuts! They race tomorrow at Catholic Central to wrap up a week of racing!
Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving Compete in East Kentwood/Wayland Tri Meet

Tuesday night the girls swimming and diving team headed over to East Kentwood for a tri meet between East Kentwood and Wayland. Kristin Winkle started the meet with in a win in the 200 IM for the Eagles followed by a win from Janie Mills in the 50 free with a 26.32.  A star performance came from Senior Naomi Grix in the 1 meter diving. Naomi scored 200.40 points winning diving for GRC, followed by teammates Lilly McGowan scoring 171.20 points and Ella Vandenburg scoring 170.35.  Starting the second half of the meet Grace Carpenter won the 100 fly with a 1:05.13 followed by Katelyn VanderHeide who took 3rd with a 1:13.68. The girls capped the meet off by winning the 400 free relay (Carpenter-VanderHeide-Mills-WInkle).  GRC beat Wayland and lost to East Kentwood — we head to Holland on Saturday for the mid season invite.

Eagles Lose: 88 - 98
The Eagles headed to Hamilton last night to finish off the week of racing. Kristin Winkle kicked off the wins for the Eagles in 200 free style followed by teammates Esther Kuperus and Lindsay Wierenga. Grace Carpenter took first in the 200 IM as well to keep the momentum going for the team. The first half of the meet ended with the 50 free where the girls took 2nd (Mills)- 5th (Wolters)- 7th (Sandburg)-8th (Koetje). Naomi Grix took second in the 1-meter diving with 164.70 points.  Grace Carpenter took first in the 100 fly to start the second half of the meet and then contributed to the 200 free relay taking another first with Mills-Winkle-VanderHeide touching at a 1:48. 63. Greta Vance took first in the 100 back and Kaylee Enders finished second to finish out the individual events for the Eagles this meet. The girls left the meet falling to Hamilton by 10 points with a final score of 98-88.
