We asked each of our Seniors parents to share some thoughts about their son. Will Bufalini Parents: Nathan and Jen BufaliniWillie B.--What a ride it has been watching you do what you love. At age 2, you told us you wanted to be a goalie. At age 14, you became a Grand Rapids Christian Eagle. Those decisions have had such a wonderful impact on our family. Soccer has taken us all over the country - turning your love of soccer into incredible memories for all of us. Soccer led you to Tim Howard, who was successful because of his differences and showed you a path to greatness. Soccer also brought you a sense of belonging and understanding that hard work pays off in all of the best ways. We love working hard to develop our gifts but appropriate scope is important also. Summer Dead Week: June 30-July 7- this is the actual dead week where there is zero contact between players and coaches and no use of district facilities. Pre-Season Down Time: the week prior to each season there is "down time" where there are no open gyms or captains practices. Only 4-player workouts and conditioning are permitted. You can find our official athletics start dates for 2024-2025 here!

Eagle football tops tops Holland Christian, 38-23
Boys Varsity FootballIf ESPN covered Eagle Football, the talking heads would have been focused on Holland Christian with their acrobatic receivers, strong-armed quarterback, and 6-2 record coming into Eagle Stadium. Not much talk would have been about the Eagles who, despite playing beautiful football at times throughout the season, hadn’t put all three of offense, defense, and special teams together in several games. From their studio, the analysts wouldn’t have been able to hear the pads popping and Eagle Drumline surging during pregame warmup or the love from the team and fans as the senior players and cheerleaders and their families were celebrated before the game. Watching on their screens, the reporters wouldn’t have heard the raucus cowbells and cheering from parents or felt the electricity in the blacked-out student section as the game began. There was something brewing in Eagle Stadium and Eagle fans felt it early.Holland Christian took the opening kickoff from Will Buffalini and marched down the

Boys Varsity SoccerThe Eagle soccer team traveled back to St. Joseph High School for the Regional Final against 4th ranked Allendale on Saturday. On another windy day near the lakeshore, the Eagles capitalized on an early chance just 12 minutes into the match when Peter Borst found himself in behind the Falcon defense from a pinpoint cross towards the far post from fellow senior John Cassiday. Borst would show great composure as he took down the cross with a perfect first touch and forced the keeper to leave his line. Borst's finishing touch was just as brilliant, as he calmly slotted the ball past the keeper and into the net to give the Eagles an important early lead. The rest of the first half would be an up-and-down affair, with each team creating some half-chances. The Eagles would attack into the wind in the second half and knew that chances would be hard to come by against a stellar defensive squad in Allendale. The Eagles' defense would certainly be tested as Al

Boys Junior Varsity FootballFor their final game of 2024, the Eagles took their show on the road to face Holland Christian ona crisp fall evening in front of a good crowd. Holland Christian took the opening kickoff and, ontheir second play from scrimmage, Eagle DB Eli Clark stepped in front of the intended receiverand made a diving catch for the interception. This gave the Eagle offense great field positionand Justin Davis hit pay dirt just three plays later, running it in from 17 yards out. Kicker EastonHowe put the extra point kick through the uprights for a 7-0 Eagle lead less than 2 minutes intothe game. The Eagle Defense, riding the momentum pushed the Maroons backwards on theirnext possession with a sack by Easton Howe and a pass breakup from Davis forcing HollandChristian off the field on 4 th down with a bad punt snap deep in their own territory. A couple ofpenalties pushed GRC backwards before HC intercepted an Eagle pass at the 5-yard line.Holland Chr then ground down the field on a 15-play TD drive and

Boys Varsity SoccerThe Eagles made the trek south to St. Joseph High School to face Sturgis in the regional semifinal. On a beautiful fall evening, the Eagles came out sluggish and also had to attack into a stiff wind. After a challenging first 20 minutes, the Eagles began to settle in and compete for every 50-50 ball. Despite a couple quality chances, however, the match would remain 0-0 at the half. After settling down during the half-time talk, the Eagles responded brilliantly by coming out of the break with focus, purpose, and a desire to extend their season. Just two minutes into the half, Isaac Williams played the perfect bending ball just in behind the near-side center back to a streaking David Pontarelli who was able to fire it under the on-rushing goalkeeper and into the back of the net to stake the Eagles to a 1-0 lead. This “goal of the year” candidate would soon be challenged by another highlight reel goal as the Eagles connected passes in midfield, broke

Boys Varsity FootballThe Eagles went on the road and knew they were in for a tough test against Spring Lake’sgrinding veer offense. That fact led to some aggressive play-calling and taking some chances onfourth downs early in the game. This gave Spring Lake a couple of short fields to work with andthey were able to capitalize before the Eagles got on the board midway through the secondquarter. That 65-yard, 7 play drive saw a 26-yard pitch and catch from Charlie King to AaronGholston on 4th and 5. King followed with a lovely 14-scramble and Will Owens darted in from 5yards out for the TD. Late in the first half, the Eagles received a kickoff that went off a playerand out of bounds at the 1 yard line. Behind on the scoreboard, with the full length of the fieldahead, and 1:08 on the clock before halftime, King dropped back into his own endzone and letone fly. Boys Varsity SoccerThe Varsity Eagles hosted the Sailors of South Christian in a Division 2 District Final on an incredible fall day for soccer. Just three weeks ago, the Eagles suffered a 5-0 defeat to the Sailors at Eagle Stadium, so there was no lack of motivation in a match that would decide who moves on in the MHSAA tournament and whose season comes to an end. The home side was determined to come out on the front foot and to both limit and defend South's dangerous long throws better than the last outing. The Eagles came out strong and got off to a dream start when Peter Borst served in a perfect corner kick to Emmett Vance, who calmly headed it past the keeper to give the hosts an early 1-0 lead just a few minutes into the match. From there, both teams would settle in and trade some chances. From the start, the Eagles displayed a focus and tenacity in defending the inevitable throw-ins and corner kicks the Sailors would earn.
