2025-2026 Athletics Start Dates

Updated on 03/15/2025

The MHSAA has done a great job of continuing to work to help find balance in athletics by creating breaks in the seasons for athletes and coaches to be with their families. We love working hard to develop our gifts but appropriate scope is important also.Summer Dead Week: June 29-July 5 — this is the actual dead week where there is zero contact between players and coaches and no use of district facilities.Pre-Season Down Time: the week prior to each season there is "down time" where there are no open gyms or captains practices. Only 4-player workouts and conditioning are permitted. You can find our official athletics start dates for 2025-2026 here!

The temperature was around 40 degrees, cloudy, and windy. But when the girls stepped on court, they raised the temperature and got another total team win. To accommodate for the weather, we played the first to 6 games with ad scoring. We were mentally tough, determined, and embraced the conditions. Everyone played with true grit, and the cold did not slow them down. Number 3 doubles Liza Kooistra/Sophia Christians played like a hot knife through butter, winning in what seemed to be record time 6-0. Number 9 doubles Ali Buist/Ella Hoekzema also finished with the second fastest time 6-0. Our number 7 doubles Aubrey Visker/Faith Keilen had a nail bitter winning 6-5. Other great performances number 4 doubles Addison Barton/Madeline Small won 6-1, number 5 doubles Josie Divitto/Kate Triezenberg won 6-2, and number 8 doubles Alexa McKee/Suzi Denboer won 6-1. As a team we played phenomenal, and were not fazed by the elements. The weather was absolutely freezing for the JV girls soccer game between Grand Rapids Christian and East Grand Rapids on Monday night. The entire Eagles’ defense including Makayla Wynbeek and Maddy Baylor did well against the speed and physicality of the Pioneers and caught the opponent offsides on numerous occasions. Going into half time, the visiting Pioneers were only leading by two goals.  In the second half, the Eagles were able to get on the scoreboard with a nice shot by Vivi Duncan into the lower corner of the net. Despite the chilling temperature and being down a goal, the Eagles created several great chances with runs by Brooklyn Clem, Aluong Reng and Delaney Denton. Game ended in a 3-1 score with the visitors taking the win.  The team is looking forward to one more game against Northpointe Christian this week before Spring Break.

The Varsity Eagles hosted our neighbors from East Grand Rapids on a cold night for soccer.  The Eagles got off to a flying start when Charley Hassenrik headed home off a goalmouth scramble to stake the home side to a 1-0 lead midway through the first half.   The Eagles would see out the half with the lead due to strong defending and organization.   The second half would feature more of the same with the Eagles defending well, absorbing pressure, and looking to counter on the Pioneers.   Despite some quality chances and much improved play in the attacking half, the Eagles were not able to find another tally.   The Pioneers would continue to press forward and their efforts resulted in a game-tying goal with around 10 minutes remaining.   The Eagles came close to finding the winner late on, but had to settle for a well-earned draw against a quality opponent.  The Eagles return to play after spring break when they visit Jenison on April 16.

Vivi Duncan had two goals in the game and put the Eagles in control with a great shot off her left foot. Ella Johnson hustled and also scored twice adding to the lead. Elle deJonge tucked in another goal, and Rose Toly completed the scoring with a very impressive free kick into the top corner of the net. The Cougars managed to score once, but it wasn’t enough as the Eagles dominated throughout the game. It was a great team effort as players like Kate Bawulski and Katrina Kuiper came close to scoring with solid play from the offense. The entire defense including Afaf Dahbi and Rose Toly were next to impossible to get past. The JV Eagles lacrosse team played Grandville Saturday morning, and while it was an early game, the girls took the field with energy, effort, and enthusiasm, helping them to win 11-5, bringing them to a 3-0 record.  The girls have been working hard on winning every ground ball and increasing ball movement, and it most definitely showed on Saturday morning. Jordyn VanderZwaag scored two goals and assisted once, as did Sophia DeHoop. Rylee Anderson scored three goals, one of them being an impressive behind-the-back shot, which took the goalie (and everybody else) by surprise. Neve Winstanley and Noive Saiz Pando also scored one apiece, and Mikayla Wolters assisted once.  Eva Lindstrom was a top-notch goalie once again, totalling 11 saves throughout the game.
