District Semis Varsity Softball vs. Catholic Central

Eagles Lose: 7 - 10
The Eagles season ended Saturday when they lost in the Semi finals of Districts to Catholic Central 10-7. The Eagles came out strong leading the game until the top of the 6th when they gave up three runs. Haily McBride was on the mound lasting seven innings, giving up eight hits, and striking out seven. At the plate the Eagles had smart at bats, earning themselves eleven walks, but only had two hits. Lily Gaastra had one hit that was a double, and three stolen bases. Abbe Diemer had the other hit, also a double.  The Softball program graduates five this year; Lily Gaastra (Shortstop), Haily McBride (Pitcher, Outfield), Annika Smits (Center field), Allison Quist (DP), Lille Dekker (Catcher). We wish them the best as they go onto college next year and look forward to having them back for the Alumni game!

Eagles Lose: 7 - 10

Eagles Lose: 0 - 10
The Eagles had a tough time generating runs against Forest Hills Eastern, losing the first game 0-10. Haily McBride battled it out on the mound, lasting five innings, allowing six hits and striking out eleven, a season record for her. At the plate, the Eagles only managed two hits, Annika Smits and Lily Gaastra each with a single.

Eagles Lose: 11 - 24
The Eagles started things off, scoring ten in the bottom of the first. However, the bats of FHE got going, tallying 20 hits, and the Eagles were unable to hold onto their lead. Abbe Diemer started things off on the mound, lasting 4.2 innings and had three strikeouts. Haily McBride came in for relief in the fourth, and Lauren Holkeboer in the fifth inning. On offense, the Eagles totaled 6 hits. Lily Gaastra led the team, going 2/3 with two singles, a walk, and two stolen bases. McBride, Ella Koetje, Lille Dekker, and Megan Hermen each had one hit. Koetje had a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the fourth that forced an error to score Hermen. The Eagles next game is at Districts on June 5 at 10 AM held at South Christian. We face off against the winner of Catholic Central and Wyoming Lee.
Varsity Softball sweeps EGR taking game three

Eagles Win: 17 - 5
The Eagles swept East Grand Rapids, winning game three 17-5. Haily Mcbride got the win on the mound, only giving up four hits and striking out one. Eagles bats got going right away in the top of the first, scoring four. Lily Gaastra and Lilly Dekker both earned a walk. Renee Prins came in to courtesy run for Dekker. Gaastra scored on a passed ball and Abbe Diemer then singled to center field, to score Prins. Mcbride doubled on a line drive to left, advancing Diemer to third. Diemer then scored on a wild pitch. Annika Smits found her way to first on a dropped third strike. Mcbride took advantage of the throw to first and scored. East Grand Rapids fought right back and scored four in the bottom of the second to tie it up.  Top of the third the Eagles did work again and scored five more. Megan Hermen started it off with a single to right field. Smits walked. Ella Koetje singled on a line drive to center field, scoring Hermen and advancing Smits to third. Holkeboer singled to right field, scoring Smits and advancing Koetje to second. Allison Quist walked to load the bases. Next up, Gaastra hit a fly ball to right field, scoring Koetje. Holkeboer scored on a pass ball, and Lilly Dekker walked to load the bases again. Prins came in to run for Dekker. Diemer then flew out to right field, scoring Quist. The Eagles defense held strong in the third and fourth innings to hold off East Grand Rapids from scoring. Top of the fourth the Eagles scored one more when Hermen hit a double to center field, and scored when Koetje hit a hard ground ball to force an error at second. Top of the fifth, the Eagles scored seven runs to force a mercy. Finding her way on base, Diemer singled on a line drive to left field. Mcbride then scored Diemer when she had a triple to left field. Mcbride scored off of the hit of Hermen to center field. Smits hit a hard ground ball to second and reached on an error. Koetje singled on a line drive to center to load the bases. Hermen was forced out at home, with a fielder's choice hit by Holkeboer. Bases still loaded and two outs, the Eagles continued to rally. Smits scored on a wild pitch, and Quist drew a walk to load the bases. Gaastra doubled on a line drive to center, scoring both Koetje and Holkeboer. Dekker hit a fly ball to center, reaching on an error, this scored both Quist and Gaastra. The Eagles totaled 12 hits in the game, led by Herman who went 3/4 with two singles, a double, and one RBI. Diemer, Mcbride, and Koetje each had two hits. Gaastra, Dekker, and Holkeboer each had one hit. Defensively, the Eagles held strong, committing only one error out of 25 total chances. The Eagles last in season game is today vs Forest Hills Eastern starting at 4 PM.

Eagles Win: 15 - 10
The Eagles won their last home game, taking game two from EGR 15-10. Haily McBride started things off on the mound, she last 1.1 innings, giving up four hits and striking out one. Abbe Diemer came in for relief and last 5.1 innings. Diemer only gave up five hits and had two strikeouts. To close out the game, Lauren Holkeboer came in to pitch to the last two batters. She got the third out for the Eagles with a strikeout to end the game.  The Eagles totaled 14 hits in game two. McBride led the offense once again, going 5/5 with four singles, one triple, two RBI's, and two stolen bases. Lille Dekker had two singles and Abbe Diemer had one single and a double. Each having one hit were Annika Smits, Lily Gaastra, Ella Koetje, Allison Quist, and Megan Hermen. Holkeboer and Quist did work on the bases, each having three stolen bases.  The Eagles face off against EGR one more time this Wednesday starting at 4:15 at Manhattan Park.

Eagles Win: 17 - 3
The Eagles came out strong for Senior night, winning game one 17-3 vs East Grand Rapids. Haily McBride earned the win on the mound. She went five innings, allowing only three runs on two hits and struck out five. At the plate the Eagles racked up 15 hits shared among eight girls. McBride and Lily Gaastra led the team, each having three hits. McBride had two singles and a double. Gaastra had a single, double, triple, and two RBIs. Lauren Holkeboer, Ella Koetje, and Allison Quist each had two hits. Lille Dekker, Abbe Diemer, and Megan Herman each had one hit.  Going into the bottom of the third, the Eagles were behind 3-2 but managed to string together some hits to score seven. Top of the fourth the defense held strong and kept EGR from scoring despite having runners on base. Bottom of the fourth the Eagles again did work at the plate to bring in eight runs to end the game.

Eagles Win: 20 - 8
The Eagles took game two vs Catholic Central 20-8 in a back and forth battle at the plate. Haily McBride started things off on the mound, she lasted two innings, allowing three hits and six runs. Abbe Diemer came in for relief, allowing three hits, two runs, and striking out three over three innings. Lily Gaastra came in clutch with runners on base, driving in five on two hits. Gaaastra drove in runs on a double, a fielders choice, and a single. McBride led the offense again going 3/5 with a walk, two singles, a triple, and five RBIs. Abbe Diemer had two hits, a single and a double that brought in two runs. Lille Dekker and Allison Quist each had one hit, Dekker's being a triple. Going into the fourth the Eagles were up 10-8, but managed to drive in six runs to extend their lead. Defense held strong in the top of the fifth to keep Catholic Central from scoring. Bottom of the fifth the Eagles drove in four more runs to end the game.  The Eagles next game is Monday at home vs East Grand Rapids starting at 4:15. We will be celebrating our five seniors, Lily Gaastra, Haily McBride, Allison Quist, Annika Smits, and Lille Dekker at their last home game!

Eagles Win: 15 - 5
The Eagles came out strong game one, defeating Catholic Central 15-5. Haily McBride got the win on the mound. She went six innings, allowing only five runs on three hits and striking out six. At the plate the Eagles totaled eleven hits as a team. McBride led the team going 4/4 with a walk. She had two singles, one double, one triple, scored two runs, and had two RBI's. Lille Dekker had three singles, and Greta Vance had two singles. Megan Herman and Lily Gaastra each had one single.

Eagles Lose: 2 - 12
The Eagles fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 12-2 loss to Greenville. Haily McBride started off on the mound allowing three hits and striking out one. Lauren Holkeboer came in to throw the following four innings. She gave up six hits and had three strikeouts. At the plate the Eagles totaled three hits off the bats of McBride, Lily Gaastra, and Ella Koetje. In the bottom of the first Gaastra found her way on base off of a single. Greta Vance up next put down a sacrifice bunt that ended up moving Gaastra all the way to third on an open base. Gaastra then scored the first run for the Eagles off a bad throw to try to get her out at third. The Eagles scored their other run in the bottom of the fourth. McBride hit a single to center field and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ella Koetje hit a line drive to right field to score McBride.  The Eagles next double header is Thursday, May 20 at Grand Rapids Cathic Central.

Eagles Lose: 7 - 17
The Eagles led game two until the bottom of the fourth when they gave up eight runs. They scored two more in the top of the sixth, but were unable to close the gap losing 7-17. Ella Koetje started off on the mound and lasted 3.1 innings. She had three strikeouts and only gave up three hits. Lauren Holkeboer came in for relief in the third and had one strikeout. Collectively the Eagles out hit Greenville with 11 hits. Leading the Eagles at the plate was Lily Gaastra and Abbe Diemer, each with a single, a triple, and two RBIs. Haily McBride and Megan Hermen each had two singles and one RBI. Holkeboer went 2/3 with a single and a triple. Greta Vance had a single that brought in one run. Holkeboer and Annika Smits held strong in the outfield having two and three catches respectively.  The Eagles face off against Greenville again at home starting at 4:15 this Wednesday, May 12.

Eagles Lose: 1 - 16
The Eagles struggled to get things going game one vs Greenville losing 1-16. Haily McBride gave up six hits and had two strikeouts. Lily Gaastra was the only Eagle to find herself on base off of two walks and scored the only run.

Eagles Lose: 0 - 15
The Eagles lost game three to a solid Byron Center team 15-0. At the plate the girl put the ball in play but were unable to find any gaps in the field for a hit. Annika Smits was the only Eagle to make it on base off of an error. On defense the middle infield held their own. Lauren Holkeboer went 3/3 and Greta Vance 2/2, both sharing time at second base. Lily Gaastra also was 2/2 for total chances at short stop.  The Eagles next game is Monday at Greenville, game one starts at 4:15 and game two at 6:00 PM.

Eagles Lose: 1 - 18
Game two versus Byron Center the Eagles worked hard but fell short losing 18-1. Abbe Diemer lasted four innings on the mound and had one strikeout. Lily Gaastra led the offense going 2/2 with two singles. Haily McBride had one single and scored the only run off a hit by Diemer.  The Eagles face off against Byron Center for game three on Wednesday at 4:15

Eagles faced off against Byron Center Monday evening and lost game one 0-17. Haily McBride lasted two innings, giving up eight hits and striking out two. Ella Koetje pitched came in for the third inning, only giving up two hits. On offense, the Eagles put the bat on the ball but were unable to find any gaps.

Eagles Lose: 2 - 19
The Eagles fell behind early and couldn't recover losing game 3 vs FHC 19-2. Abbe Diemer had the start on the mound lasting 1.1 innings, giving up three hits and striking out one. Haily McBride came in for relief, giving up five hits and striking out three. At the plate the Eagles had three hits. McBride had a single, Ella Koetje and Jenna DeVries each had a double. Ella Koetje's double to center field brought in Lily Gaastra and Allison Quist, the only two runs for the night. The Eagles have a double header at home Monday vs Byron Center starting at 4:15.

Eagles Lose: 4 - 14
The Eagles out hit FCH in game two but struggled on defense losing 14-4. Abbe Diemer worked hard on the mound giving up eight hits and striking out two. GRC had ten hits in game two shared among six girls. Annika Smits led the team going 3/4 with a walk. Smits had two singles, a double, and one RBI. Lily Gaastra went 2/3 with a walk, both hits being doubles. Megan Hermen also had two hits, both being singles. Each having one hit were Renee Prins, Haily McBride, and Ella Koetje. Eagles next game is Wednesday vs FHC at home starting at 4:15 PM.

Eagles Lose: 2 - 12
Eagles battled with FHC for the first three innings but gave up eight in the bottom of the fourth and couldn't come back losing 12-2. Haily McBride pitched the first three innings, giving up four hits and striking out three. Abbe Diemer came in relief to pitch one inning giving up two hits and striking out one. Eagles totaled four hits in game one. Lily Gaastra led the team going 2/2 with one single, a double, and scored both runs. Each having one hit were Annika smits with a double and Allison Quist with a single.

Eagles Lose: 0 - 15
The Eagles lost game one to South Christian 15-0. Haily McBride held the Sailors offense to only four hits and had two strikeouts. Lily Gaastra had the only hit for the Eagles, a single to right field.

Eagles Lose: 10 - 12
Eagles reset for game two and took South Christian to extra innings, but fell short losing 12-10 in the bottom of the 8th. Abbe Diemer pitched the first five innings, giving up eight hits and striking out four. Lauren Holkeboer made her Varsity debut on the mound and finished out the game, giving up only one hit and striking out two.  Going into the bottom of the seventh the Eagles were down one, 10-9. Finding her way on base Lily Gaastra singles on a hard ground ball to center field. Lauren Holkeboer sacrifice bunts, moving Gaastra to second. Next up, Lille Dekker singles on a line drive to center field, scoring Gaastra. Top of the eight, international tiebreaker rule is enforced and the Eagles start with a runner at second on defense. South Christian does work at the plate and scores two, making it 12-10. Unfortunately the Eagles were unable to come back in the bottom of the 8th. On offense the Eagles racked up a total of eight hits. Leading the Eagles at the plate was Gaastra with two singles, a double, one RBI, and a stolen base. Dekker had three singles and two RBIs and Haily McBride had two singles. In the field the Eagles worked hard against the consistent bats of South Christian. Annika Smits went 4/4 in center field, holding off runners in scoring position. Gaastra continued to hold strong at short stop having five assists and three putouts. Dekker and Gaastra connected up to catch three girls steeling second. The Eagles have a double header Monday versus Forest Hills Central starting at 4:15 PM.

Eagles Lose: 18 - 19
Eagles out hit Northview but unfortunately made some errors on defense that cost them the win, losing 19-18. Haily McBride did work on the mound and had six strikeouts. She also led the offense for the Eagles going 4/6 with two singles, two doubles, and three RBIs. Total the Eagles had fifteen hits, shared among seven players. Each having two hits were Annika Smits, Lily Gaastra, Lille Dekker, Allison Quist, and Jenna DeVries. Both of DeVries's hits were doubles. Lauren Holkeboer also had one hit. The Eagles next double header is this Saturday at South Christian at 10 AM.

Eagles Lose: 7 - 14
The Eagles fell behind early in game two and couldn't come back in a 14-7 loss. Abbe Diemer threw for six of the seven innings, with four strikeouts. At the plate the Eagles collected 12 hits in the game but left too many on base to get the win. Haily McBride led the offense once again collecting two hits and three RBIs. Also having two hits each were Lauren Holkeboer, Lille Dekker, and Jenna DeVries. Each having one hit were Annika Smits, Lily Gaastra, Allison Quist, and Megan Hermen. The Eagles face off against Northview for the tie breaker game Wednesday at 4:15 at Northview.

Eagles Win: 12 - 11
Game one vs Northview was a battle till the very end, but the Eagles landed on top with the win 12-11. Haily McBride commanded the mound for game one, getting her first win of the season. She held Northview to only five hits and struck out four. Going into the sixth inning the Eagles were up by four. However, Northview wouldn't go down easy and tied it up, 11-11. Top of the seventh the Eagles held strong to hold Northview off from scoring. McBride had two strikeouts and Lily Gaastra made a play at short stop. Bottom of the seventh, still tied 11-11, with one out, Allison Quist used her speed to beat out a drag bunt. Northview didn't wanna risk another hit from Gaastra and intentionally walked her. With runners on first and second, Lauren Holkeboer was up next. Holkeboer hit a single to the second baseman but used her speed to force an error on the throw. Quist rounded third and headed into home scoring the winning run. Offence was rolling for the Eagles in game one, collecting at total of 15 hits. Leading the Eagles going 4/4 was McBride with four singles. Ella Koetje went 3/4 at the plate bringing in three runs. Gaastra had a single and a three run home run over center field fence forcing Northview to intentionally walk her for her following two at bats. Also having two hits was Allison Quist with two singles. Each having one hit were Annika Smits, Lauren Holkeboer, Lille Dekker, and Megan Hermen.

Eagles Lose: 8 - 12
The Eagles came out fighting but fell short in their third game against Lowell losing 12-8.  Bottom of the first the Eagles took an early 2-1 lead when Lauren Holkeboer used her speed to beat out a grounder and Haily McBride hit a homerun. Top of the third Lowell came out swinging and scored five runs, but the Eagles came right back again to match them. Starting off Annika Smits and Lily Gaastra singled to make it on base. Next up, Lauren Holkeboer again put her speed to work and beat out a sacrifice bunt. With bases loaded, Lille Dekker takes one for the team and gets hit by a pitch. Bases still loaded, Haily McBride hits a hard grounder to right field that the fielder can't handle, three more runs scored and Haily makes it to third. Abbe Diemer grounds out to the first baseman, scoring another. In the fourth inning the Eagles scored one more when Lille Dekker brought in Annika Smits on a single bringing the score to 8-6. Unfortunately, in the top of the 5th the red arrows bats brought in six runs and the Eagles couldn't get their bats going again.  Haily McBride battled on the mound and struck out seven. Annika Smits had three catches in center field. Lily Gaastra and Ella Koetje pulled off a double play to get the Eagles out of an inning with bases loaded. The Eagles next game is tomorrow at Cornerstone University against Holland Christian starting at 12:00 PM. Following that game they will either play West Catholic or NorthPointe Christian.

Eagles Lose: 4 - 19
The Eagles bats came alive in Game 2 versus Lowell, but fell short losing 19-4. Starting off the top of the first the Eagles came out swinging scoring four runs off of four hits. Lily Gaastra, Lauren Holkeboer, and Lilly Dekker loaded the bases. Rallying with two outs, Abbe Diemer brought in two runs with a double to right field. Annika Smits kept it going with a long at bat that ended in a walk. With bases loaded again, Ella Koetje hit a single to right field scoring two more runs. Lily Gaastra led the offense with two hits. Each having one hit were Lauren Holkeboer, Lille Dekker, Ella Koetje, Abbe Diemer, and Annika Smits.  The Eagles face off against Lowell one more time this Friday at home.

Eagles Lose: 1 - 11
Eagles fought hard but faced a tough offense of the red arrows losing 11-1. Lead off hitter Lily Gaastra scored the only run in the top of the first. Lille Dekker and Lily Gaastra were the only two hits for the Eagles. On defense, Renee Prins made a great catch in right field to hold the runners from advancing. Lily Gaastra had 5 plays at short stop, Ella Koetje, and Lauren Holkeboer each had two plays at third and second base respectively.

Eagles Lose: 0 - 20
Eagles softball faced a high level pitcher and offense tonight from East Kentwood losing 20-0. Having the only hit of the night was Senior Lile Dekker with a single. Abbe Diemer and Ella Koetje toughed it out on the mound against the experienced hitters of East Kentwood. Eagles Softball has their next game at Lowell on April 14

Eagles Lose: 2 - 13
Eagles softball fell behind early and struggled to come back against Holland Christian. Abbe Diemer worked hard on the mound and had four strikeouts. Ella Koetje, Megan Hermen, and Abbe Diemer each collected one hit to lead the offense for the Eagles.  Eagles have their first home game Monday, March 29 at 4:15 vs East Kentwood.
