The Eagles fall short 55 - 48 to the Forest Hills Rangers

Eagles Lose: 48 - 55
The Eagles fall short to the Rangers.  The Eagles came out tonight playing with good energy winning th 1st quarter 15-11.  The Eagles battled in the 2nd quarter but trailed going in at the half down 27-28.  The Eagles had a good start going into the 3rd quarter and finished with a one point lead 39-38.  In the 4th quarter, the lead went back in forth with the Eagles falling short and losing 55-48 to the Rangers.   The Eagles were led by senior Jasiah Rainey's 19 points.  Senior Delon McCloud finished with 13 points.  Sophomore Jaylan Ouwinga also chipped in with 8 points.   The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday night at home against the Lowell Red Arrows.  The Eagles move to 13-4 on the season.

Eagles Lose: 48 - 55

Eagles Win: 72 - 60
The Eagles get a home win over the Byron Center Bulldogs.  The Eagles came out tonight playing with pace and looking to create tempo.  The Eagles lead in the 1st quarter 24-11.  The Eagles defense was great throughout the 1st quarter.  The Bulldogs hit some three point shots to keep the game close in the 2nd quarter.  The Eagles were able to still maintain the lead going in at the half 36-30.  The Eagles had a good start going into the 3rd quarter but their defense was not as strong allowing the Bulldogs 17 points in the quarter.  The Eagles fought hard to finish the quarter up 52-47.  The Eagles were able to closeout the 4th quarter with some great defense holding the Bulldogs to 13 points.  The Eagles scored 20 points in the 4th to get the home win over the Bulldogs 72-60.  This was another great team win for the Eagles.  The Eagles got several contributions tonight.  The guard play was good tonight for the Eagles as well.  The Eagles were led by junior Dono Thames 27 points and senior Delon McCloud's 14 points.  Sophomore Jaylan Ouwinga chipped in with 13 points and Jasiah Rainey finished with 10 points.   The Eagles will be at home Friday night against Forest Hills Central.  The Eagles move to 13-3 on the season.

The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles get a big conference win over the Northview Wildcats.  The Wildcats came into this game with a perfect 13-0 record.  The Eagles got off to a great start right from the beginning.  At the end of the 1st quarter the Eagles led 16-7.  The defense was the difference in the 1st quarter and 2nd quarter.  The Eagles kept the high scoring Wildcats in check closing out the 2nd quarter 23-15.  The Eagles controlled the tempo from the beginning to the end.  The Eagles came out to start the second half with the same energy and intensity like they started.  At the end of the 3rd quarter, the Eagles were up 42-34.  It was the defense tonight that helped the Eagles get passed the Wildcats.  The Eagles finished strong to get the win tonight with a final score of 65 - 53. The Eagles got a big boost from senior guard Nick Cassidy finishing with 9 assist and 6 points.  The Eagles also had 3 players in double digits senior Delon McCloud who scored 21 points.   Dono Thames and Jaylan Ouwinga both chipped with 18 points apiece.  The Eagles will go back to the drawing board to prepare for Friday's home game versus East Grand Rapids.  The Eagles move to 11-3 on the season.

Eagles get overtime win over East Grand Pioneers 48 - 41

Eagles Win: 65 - 53
The Eagles squeeze out an overtime win at home over the Pioneers.  The Eagles closed out the 1st quarter up on the Pioneers 17-9.  The Pioneers looked to control the tempo by playing a slow pace.  The game was close in the 2nd quarter but the Eagles were able to go in the half up 26-19.   At the half, the Eagles came out a little flat trying to find some rhythm on offense.  Defensively, the Eagles had a solid 3rd quarter with their adjustments holding steady on both sides of the floor and leading 35-29.  The Eagles defense has been the staple to their success this season.  The Pioneers played zone in the 2nd half which changed the tempo for the Eagles.  The Eagles had to grind in the 4th quarter getting to their 1st overtime this season.  The Eagles found a way to win in overtime 48-41.  This was a sign of growth for Eagles learning to win a close game down the stretch.   Junior Dono Thames led the Eagles with 15 points.  Senior Nick Cassidy followed with 12 points.  Sophomore Jaylan Ouwinga finished with 8 points and 8 rebounds.   The Eagles will be back home Tuesday against Byron Center.  The Eagles move 12-3 on the season.
The Eagles fall short to the Orchard Lake St. Mary's Eaglets 48 - 63

Eagles Lose: 48 - 63
What a great atmosphere tonight at Cornerstone University.  The Eagles played one of the top teams in the state Orchard Lake St. Mary's.  The Eagles played a good 1st quarter but still trailed from behind 14-17.  The Eagles's offense struggled to score in the 2nd quarter trailing 22-36 to go into the half.  In the second half, the Eagles could not find any rhythm offensively and struggled to slow the Eaglets down.   The 3rd quarter ended 34-52 in favor of the Eaglets.  The Eagles outscored the Eaglets in the 4th quarter but still came up short losing 63-48.  This was a great test to prepare the Eagles for a big conference game versus the Northview Wildcats on Tuesday.   Sophomore Jaylan Ouwinga led the Eagles with 14 points.  Seniors Delon Mc Cloud and Nick Cassidy combined for 14 points.  The Eagles are now 10-3. 
The Eagles fly over the Greenville Yellow Jackets 91 - 60

Eagles Win: 91 - 60
The Eagles fly past the Greenville Yellow Jackets on the road.  The Eagles had a close1st quarter against the Yellow Jackets winning the quarter 15-14.  In the 2nd quarter, the Eagles picked up the tempo defensively and offensively to get some separation closing out the 2nd quarter 42-32.  In the second half, the Eagles came out with a more offensive mindset scoring 23 points in the 3rd quarter.  The defense picked up in the 4th quarter holding the Yellow Jackets to 12 points while putting up 26 points to win the game.  The Eagles get the victory 91-60.  The Eagles scored 91 points against the Yellow Jackets which has been the most points the Eagles have scored this season in a game.  The Eagles finished strong again down the stretch and getting another great team effort. The Eagles continue their winning ways by winning their last six games. All of Eagles were able to get into the scoring column tonight.  The Eagles were led by senior Brandon Schepel's 15 points.  Junior Dono Thames finished with 12 points.  Senior Chase Jackson finished with 11 points.  Delon McCloud and  Malachi Hooser both chipped in with10 points.  The Eagles will be back on the floor tomorrow at Cornerstone University to face Orchard Lake St. Marys one of the top teams in the state at 3:30 p.m..    The Eagles move to 10-2 on the season.

Eagles Win: 82 - 19
The Eagles get a home win over the Greenville Yellow Jackets.  The Eagles came out tonight hitting on all cylinders.  The Eagles were flying all around in the 1st quarter winning the quarter 26-1.  The Eagles defense was great tonight.  The Eagles were able to use their defense to create offense in the 2nd quarter taking a large lead in at the half 47-6.  The second half with more defensive intensity forcing turnovers scoring 17 points and holding the Yellow Jackets to 4 points in the 3rd quarter.  The Eagles defense has been fierce in the last two home games.  The Eagles finished strong down the stretch closing out the 4th quarter with a 82-19 win over the Yellow Jackets.  The Eagles continue to grow as a team winning their last five games. This was another great team win for the Eagles.  The Eagles were able to get every player in the scoring column tonight.  The Eagles were led by senior Delon McCloud 16 points.  Chase Jackson finished with 13 points.  Gabe Armstead and Nate Johnson both chipped in with10 points.  The Eagles will be on the road Friday night against Yellow Jackets again.  The Eagles move to 9-2 on the season.

Eagles Win: 62 - 40
The Eagles get a home win over the Forest Hills Northern Huskies.  The Eagles came out tonight playing with pace and looking to create tempo.  The Eagles lead in the 1st quarter 16-13.  The Eagles defense was great throughout the night.  The Eagles were able to use their defense to create offense in the 2nd quarter taking the lead in at the half 26-24.  The Eagles came out in the second half with more defensive intensity forcing turnovers scoring 17 points and holding the Huskies to 2 points in the 3rd quarter.  The Eagles were flying around in the 2nd half causing havoc for the Huskies offense.  The Eagles were able to closeout the 4th quarter with defensive stops which created offensive opportunities.  The Eagles get the home win over the Huskies 62-40.  The Eagles are continue to grow as a team and find chemistry on the floor with each game. This was another great team win for the Eagles.  The Eagles got several contributions tonight in the scoring column.  The guard play was good night for the Eagles as well.  The Eagles were led by senior Delon McCloud 12 points.  Dono Thames and Jasiah Rainey chipped in with 9 points apiece. The Eagles will be at home Tuesday night against Greenville.  The Eagles move to 8-2 on the season.

Eagles Win: 67 - 51
The Eagles get their 3rd straight road win in conference play against the Red Arrows.  The Eagles came out tonight playing with pace and looking to create tempo.  The execution on offense helped the Eagles take a 25-15 point lead in the 1st quarter.  The Red Arrows continued to fight closing the gap at the half trailing 36-30. The Eagles  came out in the second half with more defensive intensity forcing turnovers scoring 19 points and holding the Red Arrows to 10 points in the 3rd quarter.  In the 4th quarter, the Eagles were able to close out the game getting the win over the Red Arrow 67-51.  The Eagles are continuing to grow as a team and finding chemistry on the floor with each game. This was a great team win for the Eagles.  The Eagles got several contributions tonight in the scoring column.  The Eagles were led by junior Dono Thames who finished with 20 points.  Sophomore Jaylan Ouwinga chipped in with 10 points. Seniors Delon McCloud, Nick Cassidy and Brando Schepel all had 9 points a piece.  The Eagles will be at home Friday night against Forest Hills Northern.  
The Eagles squeeze out a road win versus Forest Hills Rangers 46 - 44

Eagles Win: 46 - 44
The Eagles squeeze out a tough win on the road versus the Rangers.  The Eagles close out the 1st quarter up on the Rangers 14-11.  The Rangers really looked to slow the game down and play at their pace.  The game was close throughout with both teams just grinding trying to find some momentum.  The Eagles were able to take the lead going into half time up 23-20.  The Eagles continued to try and find some kind of offensive flow and pace in the 2nd quarter. At the half, the Eagles made some defensive adjustments to create more tempo against the Rangers's slow paced offense.  The Eagles had a solid 3rd quarter with their adjustments holding steady on both sides of the ball leading 34-32.  The Eagles defense has been the staple to their success this season.  The Eagles will have to continue to find an offensive flow that can match their defensive intensity.  However, in the second half the Eagles found a way to win.  This is a positive sign of growth for an inexperience team who gets the road win 46-44 over the Rangers. Sophomore Jaylan Ouwinga led the Eagles with 12 points and 7 rebounds.   Senior Delon McCloud followed with 9 points.  Junior Dono Thames had 9 points.  Jasiah Rainey gave the Eagles a lift with 7 points and 7 rebounds.  The Eagles will be back on the road Tuesday versus the Lowell Red Arrows.  The Eagles move to 6-2 on the season.

Eagles Win: 51 - 40
The Eagles grind out a tough win on the road versus the Pioneers.  The Eagles came out a little slow to start the 1st quarter trailing 13-9.  The Eagles continued to try and find some kind of offensive rhythm in the 2nd quarter but had little success still trailing 20-14 at the half.  At the half, the Eagles made some offensive adjustments to take create more tempo against the Pioneers's defense.  The Eagles had a great 3rd quarter scoring 17 points and holding the Pioneers to only 8 points.  The Eagles defense was outstanding in the second half.  The Eagles carried that same tempo into the 4th quarter scoring 19 points while still playing great defense.  In the second half, the Eagles defense and offense came alive which help them get the road win 51-40 over the Pioneers. Sophomore Nate Johnson led the Eagles with 19 points.   Seniors Delon McCloud and Jasiah Rainey both chipped in with 10 points apiece.  The Eagles will be back on the road Friday versus the Forest Hills Rangers.  The Eagles move to 5-2 on the season.  
Eagles lose 64-51 to Northview Wildcats

Eagles Lose: 51 - 64
The Eagles came up a short tonight in their conference opener against the Wildcats.  The Eagles's offense struggled to score in the 1st quarter coming off a layover.  The Wildcats led in the 1st quarter 17-7.  The Eagles made a run in th 2nd quarter closing the gap but still down 24-18 going into the half.  The Eagles played tough defense in the 2nd quarter only giving up seven points.  However, in the second half the Eagles could not find any rhythm offensively only scoring seven points themselves while giving up fifteen points to the Wildcats.  The 3rd quarter ended 39-25 in favor of the Wildcats.  Their was a bright spot the Eagles scored twenty six points in the 4th quarter. Nonetheless, the Eagles lose a tough one to the Wildcats 64-51.   Senior Delon Mc Cloud and junior Dono Thames both finished with 11 points.  Senior Chase Jackson and junior Nate Johnson both chipped in with 8 points a piece.  The Eagles will be on the road at EGR on Friday night.  The Eagles fall to 4-2.

Eagles Win: 73 - 54
The Eagles finished with a win to close out the 2021 year at Cornerstone University against the Panthers of Saginaw Nouvel. The Eagles came out flying after 12 days off, closing out the 1st quarter 24-8.  The Eagles defensively applied a lot of pressure and switched defenses to disrupt the Panthers offense in the first half.  The Eagles led at the half 40 - 24.     To begin the second half the Eagles played with pace looking to get out in transition and get easy baskets.  Defense has been the Eagles staple for success thus far in the season.  With that being said, the Eagles gave up a few more baskets than they wanted to in the 3rd quarter.  However, the Eagles led in the 3rd quarter 53 - 35.  The Panthers continued to fight but it was enough to hold off the Eagles.  The Eagles get the win 73 - 54. It was a great team win with all of the Eagles scoring tonight.  The Eagles were led by Senior Guard Delon McCloud with 16 points.  Jaylan Ouwinga finished with 13 points and Dono' Thames chipped in with 12 points.  Chase Jackson in his return scored 10 points off the bench.  The Eagles are 4 - 1 going into the New Year.

Eagles Win: 47 - 44
The Eagles grind out another tough win on the road versus the Holland Christian Maroons.  The Maroons led the 1st quarter 13 - 10 versus the Eagles.  The Eagles got off to a slow start offensively but found a way to stay close with their tough defense. The 2nd quarter ended with the Maroons on top 24 - 21.  The Eagles regrouped at halftime and made some adjustments to slowed the Maroons inside attack. The Eagles came out more aggressive defensively to make a run in the 3rd quarter but continued to trial at the end of the 3rd quarter 35 - 32.  The Eagles continued to grind in the 4th quarter defensively holding the Maroons to only 9 points while scoring 15 points in the 4th quarter to go ahead.  The Eagles were able to close it out with a 47 - 44 final on the road. The Eagles had several players step up for another great team win.  Jaylan Ouwinga and Dono Thames led the Eagles in the scoring category with 10 and 11 points.  Delon McCloud, Nate Johnson finished with 8 points a piece.  The Eagles will take the floor again after Christmas at Cornerstone against Saginaw Nouvel Catholic Central at 8:00 p.m.

Eagles Win: 51 - 48
The Eagles grind out a tough win on the road versus the Hudsonville Eagles.  The Hudsonville Eagles got off to a hot start shooting the basketball in the 1st quarter.  The Eagles came out a little sluggish allowing Hudsonville to take a 18-13 lead in the 1st quarter.  The Eagles could never find a rhythm in the first half but continued to grind trailing 26-31 at the half.  The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles regrouped at halftime and made some adjustments to slow down the Hudsonville Eagles. The Eagles came out with a more defensive mindset to make a run in the 3rd quarter but continued to trial at the end of the 3rd quarter 37-41.  The Eagles continued to grind in the 4th quarter defensively but were also able to get a spark offensively from the bench.  The Eagles had several players step up for a great team win in a close fought battle.  The Eagles were able to make some plays down the stretch to get the win 51-48. Sophomore Jaylan Ouwinga led the Eagles with 12 points.  The Eagles had three players in double figures with 10 points Delon McCloud, Nate Johnson and Dono Thames.  Malachi Hooser also was a spark for the Eagles finishing with 7 points.  The Eagles will take the floor again versus Holland Christian Thursday.

Eagles Lose: 45 - 48
The Eagles came up a little short Friday night versus the Cougars in front of a great crowd.  The atmosphere was great with last year's state champs Cougars coming to town.  The Eagles got off to a hot start scoring 21 points in the first quarter while holding the Cougars to 8 points.  The Eagles compete at a high level with tough defense that set the tone to take a 35 - 22 half time lead into the locker room.   The Eagles came out in the second half and struggled to find the basket but their defense stayed steady.  The Eagles only scored 6 points while giving up 14 points in the 3rd quarter.  The momentum started to shift towards the Cougars as they were able to close the gap making it a five point game to end the 3rd quarter.  Turnovers down the stretch was the achilles hill for the Eagles in the 4th quarter.   The Eagles came up short only scoring 4 points in the 4th quarter.  It was a hard fault battle by both teams with the Eagles losing 48 - 45.   The Eagles were led by junior Dono Thames who scored 10 points.  The Eagles had three other players who chipped in with 8 points a piece Nick Cassidy, Jasiah Rainey and Jaylan Ouwinga. The Eagles will be on the road for their next game Tuesday versus Hudsonville on the road.

Grand Rapids Christian boys varsity basketball team tipped off the season in great fashion getting their first win over the South Christian Sailors.  The atmosphere was great after an overtime win by the Eagles varsity girls basketball team.  It was the first time for many of the Eagles to play in front of a crowd due to the pandemic.  However, they stepped up to the challenge and competed against a very good South Christian team.  The nerves were high to start the game but the Eagles settled down and finished the 1st quarter with a 18 - 15 point lead.  The Eagles controlled the tempo in a very close game throughout leading at halftime 28 - 25. It was a defensive battle in the first half which, the Eagles will continue to build on during the season.  It was a great team effort from the Eagles with a final score of 66 - 58. The Eagles were led by senior Delon McCloud who scored 21 points.  Senior Brandon Schepel gave the Eagles a boost with 11 points while Jasiah Rainey and Dono Thames both chipped with 9 points apiece.  The Eagles will go back to the drawing board to prepare for Friday's home game versus Catholic Central.
