The Eagles come up short in the regional finals against Crusaders 56 - 58

Eagles Lose: 56 - 58
The Eagles come up short against the Unity Christian Crusaders.  The Eagles had a solid 1st quarter trailing by  a point 14 - 13. The game would go back in forth in the 2nd quarter with the Eagles trailing by two points 31 - 29.  The first half would end that way with the Crusaders up by two.   To start the 3rd quarter, the Crusaders would make a run which forced the Eagles to use a timeout to regroup.   The Eagles would make their own run with a couple of  three pointers but would trail 45 - 41 going into the 4th quarter. The Eagles would tie the game up at 56 - 56 with about thirty five seconds remaining.  The Crusaders would hold the ball for the last shot and with seconds remaining find an open cutter to the basket for a game winning layup.  That's how the Eagles season would end 58 - 56.  It was a great game and a great season for the Eagles.    Senior Dono Thames finished with 15 points while Junior Malachi Hooser also finished with 15 points.  Nate Johnson chipped in with 11 points.  Jaylan Ouwinga finished with 9 points.  The Eagles finished the season as district champs with a 20-6 record. What a great season for the Eagles.  The Eagles will return a lot of talent next season, so the future should be bright.

The Eagles advance to the regional finals.  The Eagles had a solid 1st quarter against the Lakers taking a 15 - 13 lead into the 2nd quarter.  The Eagles would make a push in the 2nd quarter to take a nine point lead at the half 27-18. It was a slow half of basketball for the Eagles.   In the 3rd quarter, the Eagles looked to push the pace an create more tempo on offense.  The Eagles would score 16 points in the 3rd quarter to take a 43-32 point lead into the 4th quarter.  The Bulldogs would have a tough time with the Eagles hard nose defense in the 4th quarter. The Eagles would only give up 7 points in the that quarter. The defense came alive and created offense as the Eagles would score 21 points in the 4th quarter.  It was a great team effort for the Eagles. The game would end 64 - 39 with the Eagles advancing to play the Unity Christian Crusaders for a regional championship.  Junior Jaylan Ouwinga was a force inside finishing with a game high 14 points.  Senior Dono Thames finished with 11 points while Juniors Quintin Willis and Malachi Hooser both chipped in with 10 points. The Eagles will be at Unity Christian on Wednesday for a regional championship.  The Eagles move to 20-5 on the season.
Eagles win 51 - 36 over the Ionia Bulldogs

Eagles Win: 51 - 36
The Eagles get an important win tonight over the Ionia Bulldogs.  The Eagles would have a tough time scoring in the 1st quarter where they would trial in the 1st quarter down 11-5.  The Eagles would make a run in the 2nd quarter to take a three point lead at the half 21-18. It was a slow defensive battle in the 1st half for both teams.   In the 3rd quarter, the Eagles were able to make a push with their stifling defense.  The defense would be the answer again for the Eagles holding the Bulldogs to 6 points in the quarter. The Eagles would score 14 points in the quarter to take a 35-24 lead into the 4th quarter.  The Bulldogs would have a tough time with the Eagles hard nose defense in the 4th quarter as well. The Eagles would only give up 18 points in the second half which would secure the win 51 - 36. The Eagles win back to back district championship. Junior Jaylan Ouwinga was a force inside finishing with a game high 17 points.  Senior Dono Thames finished with 12 points while Junior Nate Johnson chipped in with 10 points. The Eagles will be at Unity Christian on Monday for their 1st regional game.  The Eagles move to 19-5 on the season.

Eagles Win: 66 - 60
The Eagles were on the road to open up their 1st district game against the Forest Hills Eastern Hawks. The Eagles would set the tone early in the 1st quarter leading 21-9.  The Hawks would make a run in the 2nd quarter but still trailed at the half down 36-28.  The Eagles had good offensive rhythm in the 1st two quarters but knew they would have to compete for 32 minutes to win.   In the 3rd quarter, the Eagles were able to make a push with their suffocating defense.  The defense would be the answer again for the Eagles holding the Hawks to 7 points in the quarter. The Eagles would end the 3rd quarter up 45 - 35. The Hawks would make a run in the 4th quarter but it wasn't enough to get the job done. The Eagles would go ahead to secure the win 66 - 60.  What a way to start the postseason.  The Eagles will have to play better in the second half if they want to win a district championship. Senior Dono Thames set the tone early finishing with a game high 27.  Junior Carter Goodyke would step up big for the Eagles finishing with 16 points. Jaylan Ouwinga finished with 9 points. The Eagles will be at Forest Hills Eastern on Friday to play for a  district championship.  The Eagles move to 18-5 on the season.
The Eagles finish the season with a win over the Wyoming Wolves 81-55

Eagles Win: 81 - 55
The Eagles get a big win on senior night. The Eagles seniors, Dono Thames, Quinton Sall and Tyler Porte set the tone from the beginning.  The Eagles would close out the 1st quarter 18-8.  The Eagles would go on a 23-10 run in the 2nd quarter to take a halftime lead 41-18.  The Eagles defense made it tough for the Wolves to score in the 1st half.   In the 3rd quarter, the Eagles were able to make a push with their suffocating defense.  The defense would be the answer again for the Eagles holding the Wolves to 12 points in the quarter. The Eagles would end the 3rd quarter up 64 - 30. The Wolves would made a run in the 4th quarter but it wasn't enough to get the job done. The Eagles would go ahead to secure the win 81 - 55.  What a way to finish the season at home on senior night.  The Eagles will remember this win on senior night where every player would get into the scorebook.  Senior Dono Thames would finish with 23 points to lead the Eagles.  Junior Jaylan Ouwinga added 14 points. Juniors Nate Johnson and Carter Goodyke would finish with 8 points a piece. The Eagles will be at Forest Hills Eastern on Wednesday to kick of the district tournament.  The Eagles move to 17-5 on the season.
The Eagles fly past the Rangers 47 - 38

Eagles Win: 47 - 38
The Eagles were seeking another conference win against the Rangers. The Eagles got off to solid start in the 1st quarter leading 10 - 9. Not to mention, the Eagles were without their leading scorer Dono Thames. The Eagles were able to generate some offense off their tough defense in the 2nd quarters. The Eagles defensive pressure would hold the Rangers to only 3 points in the 2nd quarter.  The Eagles would take 19 -12 lead into the half. In the 3rd quarter, the Eagles were able to make a push with their suffocating defense.  The defense would be the answer again for the Eagles holding the Rangers to 21 points in 3 three quarters. The score would be Eagles 31 and the Rangers 21 to start the 4th quarter.  The Rangers made a run in the 4th quarter outscoring the Eagles but it wasn't enough to get the job done. The Eagles would go ahead to secure the win 47 - 38.  Junior Carter Goodyke would lead all scores with 15 points. Junior Jaylan Ouwinga added 12 points. Junior Malachi Hooser chipped in with 10 points and Junior Nate Johnson chipped in with 8 points. The Eagles will be home Thursday for senior night against the Wyoming Wolves.  The Eagles move to 16-5 on the season.
The Eagles fall short to the Northview Wildcats 51- 49

Eagles Lose: 49 - 51
The Eagles were home facing the Wildcats of Northview for a potential conference championship. The Eagles got off to a decent start ending the 1st quarter down a 14 -12. The Eagles needed their defense to step up in 2nd quarter but their defensive lapses allowed the Wildcats to take a halftime lead 29 - 23.       In the second half, the Eagles came out and made some adjustments and held the Wildcat's to 6 points in the 3rd quarter while scoring12 points themselves.  The game would be tied going into the 4th quarter.  Both teams would make some big plays in the 4th quarter. The Eagles would have a final chance to tie the game up from the free throw line but missed the opportunity.  The Wildcats would go on to win with a final score of 51 - 49.   Dono Thames lead the way with 13 points.  Junior Jaylan Ouwinga added 12 points.  The Eagles will be at home Tuesday against the Forest Hills Central Rangers. The Eagles move to 15-5 on the year.

Eagles Win: 51 - 49
The Eagles were looking for another conference win against the Greenville Yellow Jackets. The Eagles were still without Dono Thames.  The 1st quarter would go back in forth with the Eagles taking a 12-10 lead. However, the Eagles defensive pressure on the Yellow Jackets would help them take 24-15 lead at the half.  The Yellow Jackets would only score 5 points in the 2nd quarter.   In the second half, the Yellow Jackets would have a great 3rd quarter shooting the basketball.  The Yellow Jackets would hit 4 three pointers winning the quarter 19-10. The Eagles would have to rely on their defense once again to get some big stops in 4th quarter.  The Eagles would find an offensive flow in the 4th quarter as well scoring 17 points.  It would come down to the last shot with seconds remaining.  Tyler Davis would throw a lob pass to Jaylan Ouwinga for a last second bucket.  That would give the Eagles a 2 point victory 51 - 49. Another great team win for the Eagles.    Junior Malachi Hooser lead the team with 14 points. Jaylan Ouwinga chipped in with 10 points. The Eagles will be home Friday night  against the Northview Wildcats.  The Eagles move to 15-4 on the season.
The Eagles down the Red Arrows 58 - 40

Eagles Win: 58 - 40
The Eagles were looking for another conference win against the Lowell Red Arrows. The Eagles were missing their top scorer Dono Thames with a ankle injury. That would not keep the Eagles from getting off to a good start winning the 1st quarter 13-7.  The Eagles found a good offensive rhythm in the 2nd quarter. However, the Eagles defensive pressure on the Red Arrows would help them take 26-13 lead at the half.  The Red Arrows would only score 6 points in the 2nd quarter.   In the second half, the Eagles were able to make a push getting the ball inside to Jaylan Ouwinga who was a force. The Eagles defense would make things tough all night for the Red Arrows.  The Eagles would closeout the 3rd quarter 44-29. The Red Arrows would struggle to find any offense in the 4th quarter.  The Eagles held the Red Arrows to 11 points in the 4th quarter to secure the win 58 - 40. Another great team win for the Eagles.  All Eagles would get see the floor.  Junior Jaylan Ouwinga carried the load with 23 points. Nate Johnson chipped in with 10 points. Malachi Hooser finished with 9 points. The Eagles will be on the road Tuesday at Greenville.  The Eagles move to 14-4 on the season.
The Eagles get past the Forest Hills Central Rangers 46 -34

Eagles Win: 46 - 34
The Eagles were seeking another conference win against the Rangers. The Eagles got off to slow start in the 1st quarter falling behind 12-7.  The Eagles never found an offensive rhythm in the first two quarters. However, the Eagles defensive pressure on the Rangers would help them take a one point lead at the half 24-23.   In the second half, the Eagles were able to make a push with their suffocating defense. After loosing their top scorer, Dono Thames to an ankle injury in the 3rd quarter the Eagles had to find a way to win. The defense would be the answer again for the Eagles holding the Rangers to 6 points while scoring 15 points in the 3rd quarter.  The Eagles defense would repeat another 6 points for the Rangers in the 4th quarter.  The Eagles would hold the Rangers to 12 points in the second half to secure the win 46 - 34.  Junior Jaylan Ouwinga carried the load with 22 points. Cater Goodyke chipped in with 8 points. The Eagles will be on the road Friday at Lowell.  The Eagles move to 13-4 on the season.
The Eagles get revenge against the Pioneers 56-40

Eagles Win: 56 - 40
The Eagles were seeking revenge against the East Grand Rapids Pioneers. The Eagles got off to a fast start setting the tone early. In the 1st quarter, the Eagles jumped out to a 11-0 run. The quarter would end 17-9.  The Eagles kept the pressure on in the 2nd quarter taking a 30-18 lead into halftime.  This game the Eagles would control the tempo.  In the last meeting, the Pioneers controlled the tempo.    In the second half, the Pioneers were able to make a push by hitting a few three point shots.  However, the Eagles were able to keep their composure and closed out the 3rd quarter 40-30. The Eagles would refocus in the 4th quarter on defense.  The Eagles would hold the Pioneers to 10 points in the 4th quarter.  The Eagles continued to execute on offense and play hard defensively to get the win 56-40. The Eagles had some good chemistry on the  court tonight which led to a great team win. Dono Thames lead the way with 19 points.  Juniors Jaylan Ouwinga added 15 points. Nate Johnson chipped in with 11 points. The Eagles will be on the road Tuesday at Forest Hills Central.  The Eagles move to 12-4 on the season.

Eagles Win: 40 - 28
The Eagles were home facing the Huskies of Forest Hills Northern. The Eagles got off to a slow start ending the 1st quarter down 11-9. The Eagles played great defense in the 2nd quarter scoring 9 points and holding the Huskies to 3 points.  It was a low scoring affair in the 1st half with the Eagles taking a 18-14 point lead into halftime.    In the second half, the Eagles came out with great energy in the 3rd quarter. The Eagles would make some adjustments against the zone in the 3rd quarter which allowed them to take a 32-21 point lead. The Eagles would go on to win with a final score of 40-28.   Senior Dono Thames lead the way with 10 points.  Junior Nate Johnson chipped in with 8 points.  The Eagles will back on the floor Friday at EGR.  The Eagles move to 11-4 on the season.

What a great crowd for the 2K Showcase hosted at Aquinas College tonight to see the Eagles vs Michigan Collegiate Cougars. The Eagles were coming off a tough lost to Byron Center Friday night. This would be another tough matchup facing the number 6th ranked team in the state.  This was a tough defensive battle in the 1st quarter with Eagles up one 15-14.  The second quarter the game would go back and forth with the Eagles going in at the half 25-23.    In the second half, the Eagles would make some adjustments on offense and defense..  The Eagles defense was solid in the 3rd quarter.  The decision to play with two bigs Jaylan Ouwinga and Tyler Porte allowed for some size and more rebounding.  The Eagles would close out the 3rd quarter 35 -33.  The Eagles were able to make their free throws down the stretch to help close the game out. The Eagles of Grand Rapids Christian get the upset over the Cougars 55 - 53 to move to a 10-4 on the season. It was a great team win with Senior Dono Thames leading the way with 21 points.  Junior Jaylan Ouwinga finished with 17 points. Nate Johnson chipped in with 9 points. The Eagles will be home on Tuesday against Forest Hills Northern.
The Eagles lose to the Byron Center Bulldogs 50 - 43

Eagles Lose: 43 - 50
The Eagles were on the road facing the Bulldogs of Byron Center. The Eagles got off to a slow start ending the 1st quarter down 15 - 10. The Eagles played well in the 2nd quarter scoring 11 points and holding the Bulldogs to 5 points.  The Eagles were able to take a 21-20 point lead into halftime.    In the second half, the Eagles came out flat against the Bulldogs zone defense.  The Bulldogs would take 34-31 lead to finish the 3rd quarter.  The Eagles would try to make some adjustments against the zone in the 4th quarter to overcome some of their shooting issues. The Eagles just couldn't recover after a couple of turnovers and missed shots. The Bulldogs would go on to win with a final score of 50 - 43.   Senior Dono Thames lead the way with 20 points.  Junior Quintin Willis chipped in with 13 points.  The Eagles will back on the floor tomorrow at Aquinas College versus Michigan Collegiate at 7:00 p.m.  The Eagles move to 9-4 on the season.
Eagles get a road win versus the Grandville Bulldogs 62-39

Eagles Win: 62.00 - 39.00
The Eagles faced the Grandville Bulldogs tonight on the road. This matchup brought coach Eric Taylor and coach Desmond Young back together.  Coach Young and coach Taylor once set on the same bench and now they were meeting for the first time since Young took the head coaching job and Grandville. Coach Taylor was excited to see how his team would respond against the Bulldogs.      Eagles played with a focus to move the ball, rebound and defend at a high level. The Eagles rebounding in the second half was also key to their 2nd half success.  The Eagles controlled the game for four quarters and really defended against a good Bulldog team.  The Eagles were able to put together a good game from the beginning to the end and gets the victory 62-39. It was a great team win with Senior Dono Thames finished with 16 points and junior Jaylan Ouwinga also finished with 16 points. Multiple players were able to contribute to the Eagles's success tonight.
Eagles suffer a tough lost 50 - 57 to the Northview Wildcats

Eagles Lose: 50 - 57
The Eagles were on the road facing the Wildcats of Northview. The Eagles got off to a fast start ending the 1st quarter with a 17 -11 point lead. The Eagles were playing well early in the 2nd quarter but suffered from a few defensive lapses that allowed the Wildcats to cut into the lead.  The quarter would end with both teams locked at a 28 - 28 tie at halftime.     In the second half, the Eagles came out flat giving the Wildcat's offense an opportunity to get going in the 3rd quarter.  The Wildcats would take 43-39 lead to finish the quarter.  The Eagles would make some adjustments in the 4th quarter to try to get back into the game.  The Eagles would claw their way back to take the lead in the 4th quarter with a 3 point play. However, it was short lived after giving up a 3 point play to the Wildcats. The Eagles just couldn't recover after a couple of turnovers. The Wildcats would go on to win with a final score of 57 - 50.   Dono Thames lead the way with 20 points.  Junior Jaylan Ouwinga added 13 points.  The Eagles will be on the road at Grandville to take on the Bulldogs. The Eagles move to 8-3 on the year.

The Eagles were home tonight against the Greenville Yellow Jackets. The Eagles were playing in there 3rd game in five days.  The Eagles were coming off a big win Saturday over Warren De La Salle. It was a good 1st quarter for the Eagles winning the quarter 16 - 10. In the 2nd quarter,  the Eagles's tough defense held the Yellow Jackets to 6 points and taking a lead into halftime 28 -16.    In the second half, the Eagles made some adjustments to get the ball inside vs the Yellow Jackets zone defense.  The Eagles rebounded well in the second half against the Yellow Jackets.  The Eagles controlled the   the 3rd quarter offensively winning the quarter 48 - 32.  The Eagles were able to hang on in the 4th quarter to get the win over the Yellow Jackets 60 - 40. It was a great team win with Junior Jaylan Ouwinga finishing with a team high 14 points.  Junior Carter Goodyke chipped in with 13 points and Dono Thames finished with 12 points. The Eagles had multiple players getting into the scoring colum tonight.  The Eagles will be on the road for a conference showdown against the Northview Wildcats Friday. The Eagles move to 8-2 on the season.

What a great crowd at the Gottagetit Hoop Classic tonight at East Kentwood High School. Some of the best teams in the state were in attendance to play in the Hoop Classic. The Eagles would be facing the Warren De La Salle Pilots last year state champs in Division 1. The Eagles were playing in there first back to back game this season.  Coach Taylor was excited to see how his team would respond and the Eagles didn't disappoint.   It was a tough defensive battle in the 1st quarter.  The Eagles were trailing 12-7 after one quarter. In the second quarter, the Eagles offense started to click and outscoring the Pilots 21-16 and going into halftime with a 28-28 tie.    In the second half, the Eagles made some adjustments to play with a focus to move the ball quickly and attack the basket.  The Eagles rebounding in the second half was also key to their 2nd half success.  The Eagles controlled the backboards taking a 45-42 lead in the 3rd quarter.  The Eagles played very sound team basketball in the 4th quarter sharing the ball against the half court trapping defense. The Eagles hung on in the 4th quarter to get the win against the Pilots 63-58. It was a great team win with Senior Dono Thames leading the way with 16 points and winning MVP of the game.  The Eagles had many players step up tonight.  Junior Jaylan Ouwinga played amazing basketball finishing with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Nate Johnson chipped in with 9 points and 7 rebounds.  Tyler Porte, Carter Goodyke and Zay Caviness played a great role tonight as well.  The Eagles will be home on Tuesday versus the Greenville Yellow Jackets.
The Eagles down the Lowell Red Arrows 45 - 35

Eagles Win: 45 - 35
Lots of energy in the Quest Center tonight.  The Eagles started out slow in the 1st quarter against the Red Arrows ending the quarter tied 11-11. The Eagles just couldn't find an offensive rhythm in the 2nd quarter either.  The Eagles would go in at halftime tied with the Red Arrows 19-19.   In the second half, the Eagles made some adjustments to create more tempo in the 3rd quarter.  The Eagles continued to play hard and went on a 15-6 run to take a 34-25 point lead in the 3rd quarter.  The Eagles defense kept them in the game while they struggled to find offense tonight.  The Red Arrows play hard but the Eagles defense was to much for them to overcome.  The Eagles get another conference win in a low scoring affair at home 45-35.  Dono Thames lead the way with 12 points and junior Nate Johnson added 8 points.

Eagles Lose: 40 - 43
What a great atmosphere at the Quest Center tonight.  The Eagles started out slow in the 1st quarter due to the Pioneers controlling the tempo.  The Eagles fell behind early down 7- 6 to end the quarter.  The Eagles kept the game close going into the half trailing 14-23. This was the Eagles lowest point total going into halftime.   In the second half, the Eagles made some adjustments to create more tempo in the 3rd quarter.  The Eagles continued to play hard and went on a 20-10 run to take a one point lead in the 3rd quarter 34-33.  The Eagles lost their offensive rhythm in the 4th quarter whille only scoring 6 points.  The Pioneers were able to capitalize of the Eagles lack of offense in the 4th quarter and go on to get the win 43-40.   Dono Thames lead the way with 13 points.  Juniors Nate Johnson and Jaylan Ouwinga both added 10 points apiece. The Eagles will take the floor on the road next Friday vs the Lowell Red Arrows.
The Eagles fly past the Huskies with a 75 - 44 conference win

The Eagles get off to a fast start versus the Forest Hills Northern Huskies. The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles defense was on full display against the Huskies.  The Eagles defense held the Huskies to 8 points in the 1st quarter. The defensive pressure continued in the 2nd quarter with the Eagles holding the Huskies to 11 points taking a 20 point lead into halftime leading 39-19.  In the second half, the Eagles found a great rhythm scoring 20 points in the 3rd quarter and closing the quarter out 59-29.  Defense continues to be the staple for the Eagles's success. The Eagles defense continued forcing turnovers in the 4th quarter early helping them keep a comfortable lead.  The Eagles offense was flowing with multiple players finding double digit figures.  Eagles get their first conference road win over the Huskies 75 - 44.  The Eagles played a great game and improving their record to 5-1 with their second conference win. The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles are playing good basketball.  Another great team win with Senior Dono Thames leading the way with 15 points.  Senior Tyler Porte finished with 11 points.  Junior Quintin Willis finished with 11 points as well Juniors Nate Johnson and Malachi Hooser chipped in with 10 points. The Eagles will be home Friday vs East Grand Rapids Pioneers.

What a  battle at the Quest Center. The Eagles were hosting their first conference game of the season.  The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles defense was on full display against the Byron Center Bulldogs.  The Eagles defense held the Bulldogs to 13 points in the 1st quarter. The pressure continued into the 2nd quarter with the Eagles holding the Bulldogs to 3 points and taking 38 - 16 point lead into the half.   In the second half, the Eagles came out a lacks on defense allowing te Bulldogs to find a little offensive of rhyme.  The Bulldogs outscored the Eagles in the 3rd quarter but still trailing 53 - 33 going into the 4th quarter.  Defense has been the staple for the Eagles early season success. The Eagles defense force some turnovers in the 4th quarter early helping them keep a comfortable lead.  The Eagles finished with a solid 4th quarter closing out the game with a 68 - 54 win over the Bulldogs.   The Eagles were able to get everyone in the game. The Eagles played a great game and improving their record to 4-1 with their first conference win. The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles are looking good going into conference play. It was a great team win with Junior Quintin Willis leading the way with 15 points.  Junior Malachi Hooser finished with 14 points and Nate Johnson chipped in with 13 points.  Senior Dono Thames finished with 10 points.  The Eagles had multiple players in double figures tonights.  The Eagles will be on the road next week vs Forest Hills Northern.

What a great atmosphere at Ferndale High School tonight for the Eagles vs the Cosmos of Hamtramck. The Eagles started out slow offensively in the 1st quarter due to the Cosmos defensive pressure.  The Eagles fell behind early down 15-10 to end the quarter.  The Eagles kept the game close going into the half only down by five points with a 20-25 score.   In the second half, the Eagles never got into a rhythm offensively struggling to execute on offense. The Eagles continued to play hard in the 3rd quarter but still found themselves trailing 34-43.  The Eagles defense created some early offense to start the 4th quarter.  However, later in the quarter, the Eagles were able cut the deficit to five points with three minutes to go in the game.  The Cosmos were able to make plays down the stretch to get the win over the Grand Rapids Christian Eagles with a 62-53 final score.  Junior Jaylan Ouwinga finished with 14 points to lead the way.  Nate Johnson added 11 points and sophomore Tyler Davis chipped in with 10 points.  The Eagles will take the floor next year January 6th at home vs the Byron Center Bulldogs.

What a great crowd at Cornerstone University tonight to see the Eagles vs the Cougars of Catholic Central. The Eagles lost to Cougars in the regionals last season so the revenge was sweet tonight. It was a tough defensive battle in the 1st quarter.  The Eagles continued to fight taking a three point lead into halftime.    In the second half, the Eagles made some adjustments to play with a focus to get the ball inside.  The Eagles defense created some early offense to set the tone in the 3rd quarter.  The decision to play with two bigs Jaylan Ouwinga and Tyler Porte created a lot of issues for the Cougars in the 4th quarter. The Eagles were able to make their free throws down the stretch to help close the game out. The Eagles of Grand Rapids Christian get the upset over the Cougars 58 - 50 to move to a 3-0 on the season. It was a great team win with Senior Dono Thames leading the way with 17 points.  Junior Jaylan Ouwinga finished with 14 points and a big boost from senior Tyler Porte with 9 points.  The Eagles will be on the road December 29th vs Hamtramck at Ferndale High School.

It was the battle of the Eagles at the Quest Center. The Eagles were hosting their first home game of the season. It was tough battle in the 1st quarter between two good teams ending the quarter in 13-13 tie.  The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles picked up the pace and took a 4 point lead into the half 30-26.    In the second half, the Eagles made some adjustments to play with more pace and make some defensive changes. The Eagles defense force some turnovers in the 3rd quarter helping them to take a 43-38 lead into the 4th quarter.   The Eagles went on a 20-8 run in the 4th quarter building a strong lead with their tough defense.  The Eagles of Grand Rapids Christian win the battle of the Eagles 63-46 to get their second win of the season.  It was a great team win with Senior Dono Thames leading the way with 22 points.  Junior Jaylan Ouwinga finished with 14 points and Malachi Hooser chipped in with 7 points.  The Eagles will be on the road at Cornerstone University to face the Catholic Central Cougars.
The Eagles get their 1st win of the season vs the Sailors 58-47

Eagles Win: 58 - 47
The Eagles get their first win of the season against the Sailors of South Christian.  What a great atmosphere at South Christian to start the season.  Tonight was two tough teams battling out on the hardwood the 1st quarter.  The nerves were high in the 1st quarter both trying to find a rhythm but the Eagles finished the quarter 12-10.  It was a defensive struggle in the 1st half with the Sailors taking 21-19 led into the locker room.   In the second half, the Eagles made some adjustments which gave the Sailors some problems offensively.  The Eagles defense was very stifling in the 3rd quarter holding the Sailors to single digits.  The start the 4th quarter the Eagles created offense off their tough defense to get the win 58-47 over the Sailors. It was a great team win tonight.  Senior Dono Thames stepped up big leading the Eagles with 32 points.  Junior Malachi Hooser chipped in with 12 points.  The Eagles will host Hudsonville Eagles next Tuesday at home.
