The Eagles fly past the Titans 90 - 50 to get another district win

Eagles Win: 90 - 50
The Eagles came out ready to play against the Titans to advance to the district finals.  The Eagles were able to get off to a hot start scoring 32 points in the 1st quarter while holding the Titans to only 11 points.  The Eagles played with great pace offensively and defensively they were locked in and focused.  At the half, the Eagles were up 49 - 26 an in total control of the game. The Eagles had a great 3rd quarter offensively scoring 30 points while giving up 13 to the Titans.  The Eagles control the game from beginning to end with a final score of 90 - 50.  The Eagles got great production from the bench tonight with several players getting into the scorebook. The Eagles get another opportunity to play on Friday against Forest Hills Eastern for a district championship. The Eagles were led by junior Kobe Bufkin's  21 points, 6 rebounds 4 assist.  The Eagles got 16 points from junior Jared Lary who had the hot hand from behind the arc.  Christian Baty and Sam VerSteeg combined for 18 points to give the Eagles a lift.  The Eagles will play Forest Hills Eastern on Friday for a chance to advance to the regionals.

The Wolverines came out with a slow pace and dictating the tempo early.  The Eagles were able to only score 12 points in the 1st quarter due to the slow pace.  The Eagles made some adjustments at the end of the 1st quarter to pick up the tempo.  The Eagles scored 21 points in the 2nd quarter while holding the Wolverines to 8 points to close the half up 33 - 18.  The Eagles were able to find a rhythm in the 3rd quarter an open the game up with their tough defense.  Offensively, the Eagles were able to push the pace and dictate the tempo for three quarters allowing them to get the win 72 - 46. The Eagles get another opportunity to play on Wednesday with a great team effort tonight. The Eagles were led by junior Donovan Brown-Boyd 19 points, 6 rebounds.  The Eagles got 17 points and 6 assist from Kobe Bufkin.   Junior Christian Baty gave the Eagles a lift finishing with 10 points.  The Eagles will play Grand River Prep on Wednesday for a chance to advance on Friday.

Eagles Win: 78 - 38
The Eagles came out flying around after a tough lost last week.  The Eagles honored their five seniors by starting them for tip-off.  It was the seniors last game in Quest Center.  The seniors set the tone early Jack Long, John Holmes, Evan May, Cairo Rhodes and Terrel Givens with defense.  This Eagles were flying right out of the gate offensively winning 23 - 14 at the end of the 1st quarter.  The momentum only picked up in the 2nd quarter holding the Wolverines to only 6 points while scoring 25 points to go in at the half 48 - 23.  The Eagles played with great pace on offense and defense.  The Eagles were tough to be at home winning tonight 78 - 38.  They have not loss a home game all season.  This was a great team win for the Eagles as they head into postseason play. The Eagles were led by junior Kobe Bufkin with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.  The Eagles got 12 points from junior Donovan Brown-Boyd.  Senior John Holmes was a bright spot finishing with 10 points.  The Eagles finish the season 18-2 overall and 10-2 in the OK-Gold Conference finishing in second place.  The Eagles will go to Godwin High School for the districts where they will face the Godwin Wolverines in the first round.

Eagles Lose: 35 - 53
The Eagles suffered a tough lost knocking them out of the race for an OK-Gold conference championship.  The Eagles fell behind early trailing 7 - 16 at the end of the 1st quarter.  However, the Eagles were able to fight back cutting the lead to four points going in at the half 19 - 23.  Defensively, the Eagles defense was solid in the 1st half holding the Sailors to 23 points.  Second half, the Eagles just couldn't get anything going offensively struggling to make shots.  The Eagles defense collapsed allowing the Sailors to go on a 20 point run in the 4th quarter and the Eagles never recovered.  The Eagles will have to regroup before for their next game and start preparing for a post season run.  The Eagles were led by senior Evan May's 10 points and 6 rebounds.  The Eagles are back home next week to take on the Godwin Wolverines.  The Eagles fall to 17 - 2  overall and 10 - 2 in the OK-Gold conference.

The Eagles came out with a purpose offensively and defensively against the Wayland Wildcats.  The Eagles were able to get a road win against the Wildcats.  The Eagles had a great 2nd quarter scoring 20 points and holding the Wildcats to only 12 points to close out the quarter.  The defense of the Eagles was tough tonight allowing the Eagles to go in at the half up 40 - 20.  The Eagles defense stayed solid in the 2nd half only allowing the Wildcats to 23 points while scoring 37 points.  This was a great team win for the Eagles as they prepare to play South Christian on Friday.  The Eagles had 9 players that scored tonight.  They were led by junior Kobe Bufkin with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.  The Eagles got 12 points from junior Donovan Brown-Boyd and 7 rebounds.  Seniors Cairo Rhodes and Evan May combined for 20 points and 7 rebounds  The Eagles will be on the road Friday verses the South Christian Sailors.  The Eagles move to 17-1 for the season and 10-1 in the OK-Gold conference.

Eagles Win: 68 - 59
The Eagles got off to a good start winning the 1st quarter against Forest Hills Eastern Hawks 17 - 12.  The Eagles weren't able to carry the momentum into the 2nd quarter closing the half out tied 31 -31.  The Eagles picked up the tempo going on a 21 - 15 point run to close the 3rd quarter 52 - 46.  The steady offense and defensive play allowed the Eagles to get the home win 68 - 59.  The Hawks were able to keep the game close by hitting 11 (3 point shots) against the Eagles tough defense. The Eagles were led by junior Kobe Bufkin with 17 points.  The Eagles got big boost from junior Donovan Brown-Boyd who finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds.  Terrel Givens had 10 points and 8 rebounds while Sam VerSteeg chipped in with 10 points.  The Eagles moved to 16 -1 overall and 9 - 1 in the OK-Gold conference.

Eagles Win: 55 - 53
The Eagles got off to a slow start at home against the Pioneers.  The Pioneers  led in the first quarter 18 - 14 as the Eagles struggle to get going early offensively.  The Pioneers did a great job of slowing the pace of the game down and switching defenses.  The Pioneers led a the half 31 - 23  which forced the Eagles to make some adjustments at halftime.   The Eagles's defense was all over the Pioneers to start the 3rd quarter outscoring the Pioneers 18 -12 to cut the deficit 2 points.  Offensively, the Eagles found a little rhythm in the second half which allowed multiple players to get involved and get the victory down the stretch. This was another great team win for the Eagles.  Kobe Bufkin led the way with 20 points 5 assist.  Senior Evan May was solid with 11 points and 6 rebounds.  Junior Sam VerSteeg chipped in with 12 points.  The Eagles will be at home verse Forest Hills Eastern Hawks Friday night.

Eagles Lose: 61 - 62
The Eagles came out with great energy offensively and defensively against the Wyoming Wolves.  At the end of the 1at quarter, the Eagles lead 15 - 7 while controlling the game.  The Eagles played a great half of basketball holding the Wolves to only 20 points while scoring 34 to close the half up by 14 points.  The game plan seemed to be working until the second half.  The Eagles defense collapsed in the second have giving up 42 points which was hard to overcome.  Defense has been the key ingredient for the Eagles success all season.  The Eagles will have to regroup as they're tied with the Wolves at the top of the OK-Gold conference. The Eagles were led by junior Kobe Bufkin's 20 points 5 assist.  Senior Evan May chipped in with 10 points and 6 rebounds.  The Eagles are back home next week for two home games verses EGR and Forest Hills Eastern.  The Eagles fall to 14 - 1 overall and 7 - 1 in the OK-Gold conference.

The Eagles came out flying around after have a week off from competition last week.  It looked liked the Eagles didn't miss a beat showing little rust from the layoff.  The Eagles had a good 1st quarter scoring 22 points and holding the Trojans to only 9 points to close out the quarter.  The Eagles defense was solid in the 2nd quarter holding the Trojans to only 9 points and only allowing the Trojans 19 points to end the half.  All the Eagles were flying high with ever player scoring against the Trojans.  Ball movement was key to the Eagles success on the offensive side of the ball.  This was a great team win for the Eagles as they prepare for a big conference showdown verse the Wyoming Wolves.  The Eagles were led by junior Kobe Bufkin with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.  The Eagles got 14 points from junior Donovan Brown-Boyd.  Sam VerSteeg was a bright spot finishing with 10 points.  The Eagles will have the Fox 17 game of the week Friday verses the South Christian Sailors.  The Eagles move to 14-0 for the season and 7-0 in the OK-Gold conference.  Eagles take their show on the road Friday against the Wyoming Wolves.

The Eagles were tested in another great atmosphere in front of a sell out crowd at theUnion Redhawk Showcase.  The Eagles had a chance to compete against an eastside team while seeing a different style of play.  The game had a post season feel after playing back to back Friday and Saturday.  The Eagles trailed in the 1st quarter but managed to go in at halftime 31 - 25.  The Eagles came up with a big 3rd quarter on offense scoring 23 points.  The Eagles continue to find different ways to win, with defense being the focus.  The Eagles had balance scoring which made them tough to beat tonight. Kobe Bufkin finished with 17 points.  Junior Jared Lary chipped in with 11 points but the big difference was Donovan Brown-Boyd's 21 points and "Player of the Game".  The Eagles move to 13-0 for the season and 6-0 in the OK-Gold conference.

However, the Eagles played from behind in the 1st quarter 17 - 15 against the Sailors.  The Eagles fought hard but were still down at the half 27 - 26.  This was game was living up to the hype.  The half time adjustments paid big dividends for the Eagles in the second half.  The Eagles were able to pull away in the 4th quarter scoring 19 points and holding the Sailors to 12 points.  The Eagles defense came to life in the second half which has been the staple to their success.  However, the Eagles had great balance on offense with four players in double digits. The Eagles were led by junior Kobe Bufkin's 14 points.  Junior Jared Lary came up big hitting some timely 3 point shots and finishing with 11 points of his own.  Evan May chipped in with 10 points and Donovan Brown-Boyd added 8 points The Eagles will be back on the hardwood Saturday against the Farmington Falcons at the Union Redhawk Showcase.  The Eagles move to 12-0 on the season.

The Eagles came out flat offensively and defensively against the Wayland Wildcats.  However, the Eagles were able to regroup and take a lead going into the half 39 - 26.  The Eagles had a great 2nd quarter scoring 28 points and holding the Hawks to only 16 points to close out the quarter.  The Eagles defense was solid in the 2nd half only allowing the Wildcats to 20 points.  This was a great team win for the Eagles as they prepare to play back to back games on Friday and Saturday.   The Eagles were led by junior Kobe Bufkin with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.  The Eagles got 13 points from junior Jared Lary  and 10 points, 8 rebounds from junior Donovan Brown-Boyd.  The Eagles will have the Fox 17 game of the week Friday verses the South Christian Sailors.  The Eagles move to 11-0 for the season and 5-0 in the OK-Gold conference.

The Eagles came out flat offensively and defensively against the Forest Hills Eastern Hawks.  However, the Eagles were able to regroup and take the lead at the end of the first quarter 19 - 16.  The Eagles had a great 2nd quarter scoring 24 points and holding the Hawks to only 13 points to close out the quarter.  At the half, the Eagles were up 43 - 29.   The Eagles defense wasn't as solid in the 2nd half allowing the Hawks to find open 3's and cut the lead to 4 points.  The Eagles were able to hang on by knocking down free-throws down the stretch. The Eagles were led by junior Kobe Bufkin with 32 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.  The Eagles got 18 points between Evan May, Christian Baty and Donovan Brown-Boyd.  The Eagles go home next week for two home games verses Wayland Union Wildcats and the South Christian Sailors.

The Eagles's  tough defense was on display against the Pioneers.  The Eagles led in the first half  31 - 24.  The Eagles held the Pioneers to only 7 points in the 3rd quarter while only given up 10 points in the 4th quarter.  The swarming defense was all over the Pioneers holding all players under double digits scoring for the game.  Defense continues to be the focal point to the Eagles success.  The Eagles's full court pressure took the Pioneers out of their offense in the second half. Offensively, the Eagles had a good rhythm throughout the game getting contribution from multiple players. This was another great team win for the Eagles.  Kobe Bufkin led the way with 20 points 5 steals.  Senior Terrel Givens was solid with 10 points and 6 rebounds.  Evan May chipped in with 8 points and 8 rebounds. The Eagles will be on the road for their next game verse Forest Hills Eastern Hawks Friday night.  The Eagles move to 9 - 0 for the season.

Eagles Win: 66 - 64
The Eagles jumped out to a 20 - 15 1st quarter.  At the half, the Eagles were leading the Wolves  40 - 28.  Offensively, the Eagles played with pace and were able to get good shots.  It was an entertaining game for the fans to see two unbeaten teams in the OK-Gold.  The Wolves picked up the pace in the second half by scoring 36 points while the Eagles score only 26 points.  The Eagles defense has been their focal point this season but tonight the defense struggled at times but the Eagles got the stops they needed down the stretch.  The Eagles led 51 - 46 going into the 4th quarter and closed the game out 66 - 64 which puts them on top of the OK-Gold. Kobe Bufkin  led the way with 24 points.  Senior Cairo Rhodes gave the Eagles a lift with 16 points.  Junior Donovan Brown-Boyd chipped in with 12 points off the bench.  The Eagles will gear up for a pair of tough league games next week on the road verse East Grand Rapids and Forest Hills Eastern.  The Eagles move to 8 - 0 on the season.

The Eagles had a tough time finding an offensive rhythm verse the Trojans.  Offensively, the Eagles struggled shooting the basketball after having a week off from games.  However, the Eagles defense gets them another win on the road verses the Trojans. The Eagles held the Trojans to only 12 points in the second half while scoring 19 points of their own and that was the difference in the game.  Kobe Bufkin came through with a tough baseline jump shot with six seconds remaining to put the Eagles up 49 - 47 to secure the win. Kobe Bufkin  led the way with 24 points.  Senior Cairo Rhodes gave the Eagles a lift with 10 points.  The Eagles will gear up for another league game verse the Wyoming Wolves Friday at home.  The Eagles move to 7 - 0 for the season.

The Eagles had a chance to compete against the Rockford Rams at the Cornerstone University Holiday Tournament.  The Eagles tough defense gets them another win on the road verses the Rams. The Eagles held the Rams to only 23 points in the first half while scoring 24 points of their own.  Second half defense was the difference in the game where the Eagles only allowed 20 points in the half.  The Eagles started the game with full court pressure which wore the Rockets down as the game carried on.  The pressure was able to take the Rams out of their offensive flow in the second half.  The Eagles supporting cast played well tonight and brought a lot of energy to the floor. It was another great team win for the Eagles.  Kobe Bufkin led the way with 12 points 6 rebounds.  Senior Evan May was solid with 10 points and 6 rebounds.  Donovan Brown- Boyd stepped up big for Eagles with 9 points and 10 rebounds.  Junior Brian Hunter was solid defensively while adding 8 points.  The Eagles will gear up for league play with the first two games verses Thornapple-Kellogg Trojans and the Wyoming Wolves.  The Eagles move to 6 - 0 for the season.

It was another great team win for the Eagles.  Kobe Bufkin led the way with 27 points 5 rebounds.  Senior Evan May was solid with 11 points and 6 rebounds.  John Holmes was a bright spot for Eagles with 8 points and 6 rebounds.  Juniors Sam VerSteeg and Marcellus VanderKodde combined for 16 points.  The Eagles will kick the New Year off verse the Rockford Rams at Cornerstone University January 3rd at 7:30 p.m.  The Eagles move to 5 - 0 for the season.

The Eagles needed their tough defense in the second half to get past the Maroons. The Eagles held the Maroons to only 14 points in the second half while scoring 25 points of their own.  Defense continues to be the focal point to the Eagles early success.  The Maroons shot 44% from the floor and 25% from behind the arc.  The Eagles went to their full court press to take the Maroons out of their offense in the second half. Offensively, the Eagles got great support from the bench. This was another great team win for the Eagles.  Kobe Bufkin led the way with 18 points 5 rebounds.  Senior Evan May was solid with 11 points and 6 rebounds.  Terrel Givens was a bright spot for Eagles with 8 points and 6 rebounds.  Juniors Brian Hunter and Christian Baty combined for 16 points and some tough defense against the Maroons guards.  The Eagles will be on the road for their next game December 27th vs. Reeths Puffer High School.  The Eagles move to 4 - 0 for the season.

Eagles Win: 60 - 54
The Eagles defense was tough holding the Cougars to only 54 points for the game where they scored 82 points in their first game.  Defense has been the focal point to the Eagles early success allowing only 20 points in the second half.  The Cougars shot 35% from the floor and 23% from behind the arc.  The Eagles really had to find a way to combat the length of the Cougars and keep them off the glass.  It was tough trying to overcome their size but the Eagles made up for it with tough scrappy defense.  Offensively, the Eagles are improving as they are still trying to find a rhythm. This was another great team win for the Eagles.  Kobe Bufkin led the way with 29 points 11 rebounds.  Senior Evan May was solid with 8 points and 6 rebounds.  Junior Sam VerSteeg hit 2 big three point shots when the Eagles need them in second half.   The Eagles had the next man up mentality while missing Junior guard Jared Lary due to a knee injury suffered verse Northpointe Christian.  The Eagles will face a tough challenge Friday away as they tip-off against the Holland Christian Maroons.

The Eagles defense was stingy holding the Mustangs to only 43 points for the game.  Defense has been the focal point to the Eagles early success.  The Eagles only gave up 5 points in 1st quarter and holding the Mustangs to 15 points for the half.  Despite playing great defense, the Eagles will have to improve in the areas of rebounding and offensive execution.  The Mustangs played hard and are a well coached team that will win some games this season.  The Eagles were able to dictate the pace of the game from their defense allowing them to get some easy transition baskets. This was a great team win for the Eagles.  The Eagles were able to get contributions from multiple players.  Kobe Bufkin led the way with 19 points 7 rebounds and 7 assist.  Donovan Brown-Boyd was a bright spot with 14 points.  Senior Evan May was solid with 13 points and 6 rebounds.  Juniors Christian Baty and Sam VerSteeg combined for 14 points.  The Eagles will have to have the next man up mentality for the rest of the season with the depth of the team.  The Eagles will face a tough challenge Tuesday at home as they tip-off against the Catholic Central Cougars.

Eagles Win: 53 - 43
The Eagles came out with high energy but failed to find the basket early only scoring seven points in the 1st quarter.  The energy did benefit the Eagles on defense holding the Chix to only eleven points in the 1st quarter.  The Eagles defense was great from beginning to end.  Once the Eagles settled down offensively, they found their rhythm and began to score.  The pace of the game favorite the Eagles in terms up getting up and down the floor.  The Eagles led at the half 31 - 18 to start the 3rd quarter.  The Chix are a young team that will win some games this season. The Eagles were led by junior Kobe Bufkin with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.  Another bright spot was senior Evan May who chipped in with10 points and five rebounds.  The Eagles also got a boost from juniors Christian Baty and Brian Hunter.  The Eagles will be on the road at Northpointe Christian Friday night.
