Varsity Golf Wins Division 2 State Championship

Eagles Lose: -
A story not easily summarized here, the Eagles stormed back from 13 shots back, in the final seven holes of Day 2 at the Fortress to win the State Championship in Division 2 over a fantastic Brother Rice team by 2 shots. Ultimately 15 shots were made up on the final stretch of very difficult golf holes where the Eagles played solid, not perfect, golf under extreme pressure to win.  On Friday the Eagles shot 300, a very solid score, but it was 10 shots behind back to back reigning state champion Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice wth a 290. Lorenzo Pinelli (Brother Rice) won the day with an 8 under par 64 - a truly incredible performance. Tied for a tournament record. Highlights for the day was Dylan Clark shooting 73 and John Cassiday holing out on his last hole from the fairway for an "Eagle" (a 2) from 100 yards out to get to a -1 par 71 and keep us 10 shots down.  Day two started out as a stalemate going back and forth for 11 holes getting as close as 6 and as far back as 13 shots with 7 holes left. The Eagles stuck to the game plan for the course that the team made and the depth of our program showed through as our guys finished strong through the pressure and made incredible shots and choices under pressure to post a 295 (595 overall) to Brother Rice's 307 (597 overall).  Highlights for the Eagles were too many to write here, but Day 2 player junior Adam Workman was incredible, paring the hardest hole on the course (13), then making an Eagle from 270 yards out on hole 14, paring 15, and birdieing his last hole 16 (2nd hardest hole) to finish his round with a 73 and put an exclaimation point on an incredible day from him! Junior Dylan Clark shot a 73-73 for two day total of 146 and 5th place overall. Freshman Cooper Reitsma, played shot for shot with the Individual State Champion Lorenzo Pinelli (who shot a 64-70 for a total of -10 134) and basically neutralized his score on Day 2. He shot a 76-72 for a two day total of 148 and a T-6th finish overall. Sophomore John Cassiday shot a 71-77 for a total of 148 which was tied with Cooper for 6th place.  I hope you can find a player or a parent to talk to about the moments God gave us during that miraculous finish and three year journey to this point. We are blessed beyond measure for the time, the moments, and the gifts God has given us. The Championship is nice, but Eagle Golf is about teh process and the people and ministry of God through it all. Proud of our boys, their families, and all the community who has supported us. This is all of our Championship so please enjoy it! We look forward to climbing the next mountaintop in our path. It takes about 363 days to get there. The journey will not be smooth, but it will be fun, and hard, and sad, and happy, it will take time, but it will be an amazing gift from God whether we reach the top again or not. Thanks for following us this year! Go Eagles!

Eagles Lose: -
It was a beautiful but cold day at Hawk Hollow Golf Course in Bath, MI. A very challenging golf course including some swirling winds proved to be tough on the field today. In the end, a player from Holt High School hit an amazing chip shot and putt to secure a one shot victory over the Eagles. Holt shot 315 and GRC shot 316.  Scoring for the Eagles was John Cassiday who shot 76 (T2nd overall), Dylan Clark shot 77 (T4 overall), Adam Workman with a 79 (7th overall), and Ford Erickson who shot 84. The Eagles completed their regular season today. The Regionals begin on June 1 at Diamond Spring Golf Course.

Eagles Lose: -
The Eagles finished off their OK White Conference season today by winning the OK White Conference Touranment. This is the first OK White Conference Tournament Championship since 2014. The Eagles did win the OK White Conference Championship last year overall, so this is our second overall Championship in the past two years. Points are distributed based on finish (6 points for first in jamborees and 16 points for first in conf tournament) in each jamboree and the conf tournament. In third place was Lowell with 34 points, second place was FHC with 40 points, and the Eagles were in first with 52 points.  Todays Conference Tournament placed all 6 Eagles in the top 8 overall. Dylan Clark placed 8th with a 75. Cooper Reitsma and Adam Workman both shot 74 and finished in a tie for 4th with two other players (Grant Ofield and Drew Leatherman). John Cassiday and Sawyer O'Grady finished T2nd with +1 over par 73, respectively. While junior Max O'Grady started with a birdie and never looked back shooting 3 under par 69.  Additionally today completed the All Conference season which landed 6 Eagles in the All-Conference category. The top 10 conference season averages determine All Conference. Placing first team All Conference. Freshman Saywer O'Grady finished 7th overall, juniors Dylan Clark and Adam Workman tied for 5th overall. Junior Max O'Grady finished 3rd overall, sophomore John Cassiday finished 2nd overall, and Cooper Reitsma finished with an incredible +0.75 shots over par as an average for first place in the league for scoring average.  Eagles compete in one more invite on Thursday at Hawk Hollow, then off to the regional championship at Diamond Springs on Thursday June 1st.

Eagles Lose: -
At one of the best run and most fun events we have attended, the Corporal B Invitational at American Dunes Golf Club, the Eagles battled their way to a 4th place finish amongst a very strong field of teams. Finishing as the top team from Division 2 was a great step in the right direction for this team as we shot a 304. Northville HS won the event with a 300, Detroit Catholic Central was secon with a 302, and Ann Arbor Skyline 3rd with a 303.  Leading the scoring for the Eagles was sophomore John Cassiday with a 74 (T9th overall). Also scoring for GRC was freshman Cooper Reitsma with a 76, freshman Sawyer O'Grady and Junior Dylan Clark each with a 77, and rounding out the team scoring was junior Max O'Grady with a 78. Great play overall for the Eagles.  Most notably was that each team played for an American Hero. Our Hero was Captain John Patrick Noesen, grandfather of Parker Noesen. Captain John Patrick Noesen served in the military for 10 years with the marine corps. He was part of the fighting fifth Marine Division and served 365 days in Vietnam, flying more than 300 missions during that time. As it says on the walls at American Dunes, "Freedom is not free." Many people have fought and died for our freedoms. John is still alive and well and we were honored to play for him and his family today.   The team plays two Jamborees this week before heading to Forest Dunes (Roscommon, MI) for The Loop Classic on Friday. Go Eagles!

Placing third was OK White competitor Lowell HS with a 324 and fourth was another OK White competitor in Forest Hills Central (330). The first tournament of the season was a great test at Egypt Valley Country Club. The Eagles won the tournament placing first out of 23 teams with a score of 298. Also scoring for the Eagles was junior Max O'Grady (73 - 2nd place), freshman Cooper Reitsma (74 - 4th place), sophomore John Cassiday (79 -13th place) and senior Alex VandenBerge with an 84.   Congratulations to the Eagles who represented their school and their entire 11 person team very well at this event with great attitudes, positive thinking, and mental toughness.
