The Eagles Win in Overtime 72-65

Eagles Win: 72 - 65
In the final regular season game for the Eagles, they defeated Godwin Heights. The game was A back and forth game all evening. The Eagles were up 1 after the first quarter. At half time, the score was tied 28-28. Both teams struggled on the offensive end. The second half the offense picked up for both teams. The Eagles started moving the ball side to side and started hitting some perimeter shots. After 3, the Eagles led 51-47. The fourth quarter was back and forth, the Eagles were up by three with 19 seconds left in the game. Godwin Heights hit a 3 and forced the game to overtime. Overtime the Eagles took the game over on both ends of the court, outscoring Godwin Heights 13-6. The Eagles defeated Godwin 72-65. The Eagles got contribution from everyone. Brandon Schepel led the Eagles with 22 points. Amir Nixon added 19 points. Chase Jackson hit some big time 3s and added 12 points. The Eagles finished the season 18-2 overall. GO EAGLES!!

Eagles Lose: 59 - 65
The Eagles fall in a tough game to the Sailors of South Christian. The Eagles got off to a very slow start. They just could not get a stop on defense and could not put the ball the in the basket. After one the Eagles were down 18-9. It was one of lowest scoring quarters for the Eagles all season long. The Eagles picked up the intensity in the second quarter and started making some plays and getting some easy baskets. The Eagles tripled there scoring output in the second and got back in the game. At the half the Eagles were down 35-27. The third quarter, the Eagles best quarter all season long, turned to be the worst quarter for them. The Eagles just could not get perimeter shots to fall. After 3, the Eagles were down 51-33. In the fourth the Eagles came out fighting. They pressed the Sailors and got back in the game. The Eagles converted on some turnovers with some easy baskets and some timely 3's. The Eagles got the game down to three points but simply could not finish and just ran out of gas. It was a great effort by the Eagles to claw all the way back. The Eagles had a balance attack all game on the offensive end. Three players were in double figures CJ Jones, Delon McCloud, and Nick Cassiday. Brandon Schepel and Amir Nixon finished with 9 points a piece. The final game this season is this upcoming Tuesday at home against Godwin Heights.

Eagles Win: 74 - 40
The Eagles got off to a good start on both sides of the basketball. Wayland played a zone defense the entire game and the Eagles capitalized. The first quarter the Eagles made 4 threes and led 22-13 after one. The second quarter The Eagles applied full court pressure on the defensive end to create some opportunities for some steals and to create some tempo. At half, the Eagles were leading 38-22. The second half the Eagles wore down Wayland. The Eagles got everyone involved on the offensive end. All the Eagles got in the scoring column. The Eagles held Wayland to 18 points in the second half and won by the score of 74-40. Delon McCloud led the Eagles with 19 points. Brandon Schepel added 13 points and Chase Jackson added 10 points. The Eagles return to action this Thursday at home against South Christian.

Eagles Win: 57 - 46
The Eagles defeated the Hawks of Forest Hills Eastern to move to 16-1 on the season. The game wasn't the prettiest game as the Eagles just could not seem to pull away. The Eagles struggled to find their offensive rhythm the entire game. The third quarter being the Eagles best quarter all year they went on a run to push the game open. The fourth quarter was a defensive quarter for both teams as both teams struggled to find the basket. The Eagles led the entire game and got the victory 57-46. The Eagles were led by Scotty Stockwell with 11 points and Delon McCloud added 10 points. Nick Cassiday was the floor general and added 7 points and 10 assist. The Eagles return to action Tuesday at Wayland Union. The game time as changed to 5:30pm.     
4th Quarter Run lifts The Eagles over East Grand Rapids

Eagles Win: 66 - 53
Through the first three quarters of the game Grand Rapids Christian and East Grand Rapids were neck and neck. No team could establish a good rhythm. The first half ended with Grand Rapids Christian up 30-29. The Eagles knew in the second half they needed to pick up the pressure on the defensive end. Not till the end of third quarter the Eagles got to clicking. Chase Jackson hit a big three at the end of the quarter to spark the Eagles. In the fourth quarter the Eagles defense took charge. A 25-12 run in the fourth quarter lifts the Eagles over the Pioneer's 66-53. CJ Jones led the Eagles with 25 points. Brandon Schepel added 13 and Amir Nixon added 9. The Eagles return to action on Friday against Forest Hill Eastern at 4:00pm.

Eagles Lose: 73 - 83
The Eagles got off to a bad start the first quarter. They could not find any rhythm on both sides of the ball. At the end of the first quarter The Eagles were down 19-14. In the second quarter, the game just went back and forth trading baskets. The Eagles just could not get consecutive stops on the defensive end. At the half, the Eagles trailed by 10 39-29. The third quarter was the Eagles best quarter once again as they picked up the full court pressure. The Eagle made a furious come back but got in foul trouble as well. The fourth quarter, the Eagles just ran out of gas and the foul trouble came back to hunt the Eagles. The Eagles fall 83-73 to the Wyoming Wolves.  CJ Jones and Brandon Schepel led the Eagles with 20 a piece. The Eagles return to action on Tuesday against East Grand Rapids High School.
The Eagles Pull Away From Thornapple-Kellogg 82-53

Eagles Win: 82 - 53
The Eagles returned to action to face Thornapple-Kellogg after having a week off. The game got off to a rocky start for the Eagles on the defensive end. The Eagles slowly picked up the pace and after the first quarter the score was 19-19. The second quarter the Eagles got their running game going after getting some stops on the defensive end. The Eagle held TK to 10 points in the second quarter. At the half, the Eagles led 44-29. The Eagles best quarter was the third and has been all season long. The Eagles came out of half time and put a good half of basketball together. Offensively, the Eagles made some perimeter shots after getting the ball in the paint and kicking it out to shooters. Defensively, the Eagles buckled down and held TK to one shot on most possessions in the second half. The Eagles pulled away with a score of 82-53.  Brandon Schepel led the Eagles with 24 points. Amir Nixon added 10 and Gabe Vanderwoude with 9. Everyone got in the scoring column for the Eagles. The Eagles return to action Friday with a big show down with Wyoming High School.

Eagles Win: 66 - 57
The Eagles played two different halves. The first half the Eagles got off to a very slow start. They could not get a defensive rebound and South Christian converted on those opportunities. The Eagles offense was slowed down as well. Throughout the first and second quarters the Eagles face there biggest deficit of the season as it reached double digits. The Eagles clawed back in the game and ended up being down by four at half, which was there first deficit at half all season long. The second half was a total different half for the Eagles. The Eagles got back to playing their style of basketball. The defensive pressure and finishing with box outs allowed them to get back in the game. Offensively, the Eagles played inside out and converted with some inside baskets and 3's. The Eagles rallied and took the lead and never gave it back. This victory was your ultimate team victory over a good South Christian team. The Eagles were led by Delon McCloud with 16 points, Brandon Schepel with 13, and Gabe Vanderwoude with 12. CJ Jones had 10 points and 8 rebounds. Nick Cassidy add 10 rebounds and 8 assist. Amir Nixon chipped in 10 points off the bench for the Eagles. The Eagles have next week off and will return to play at home on February 11th against Thornapple-Kellogg @ 4pm.

Eagles Win: 81 - 33
The Eagles got off too a quick start against the Wayland Wildcats. The first quarter the Eagles applied full court pressure on the defensive end which resulted in some easy baskets on the offensive end. At the end of the first the Eagles were ahead 22-3. The second and third quarters were the best for the Eagles as everyone contributed on the offensive end. The Wildcats played a 2-3 zone defense most of the game and the Eagles capitalized. Brandon Schepel, Nick Cassiday, Chase Jackson, Eli Klunder, and Gabe Vanderwoude contributed at least 1 three pointer. Amir Nixon got the JV team their first dunk of the season. It was an entire team effort as the Eagles beat Wayland 81-33. The Eagles contributed that 81 points to the late Kobe Bryant. Delon McCloud led the Eagles with 14 points and Brandon Schepel chipped in with 12. The Eagles are now 12-0 and 5-0 in conference play. They return to action Thursday at South Christian.

Eagles Win: 65 - 28
The Eagles got off to a slow start against Grand Rapids Union as both teams were trying to feel each other out. The tempo finally picked up mid way through the first quarter as the Eagles applied full court pressure. The full court pressure allowed the Eagles to get some steals to result in easy transition baskets. After the first quarter the Eagles led 16-5. The Eagles elevated their play in the second quarter and stretched the lead to 27-13. The third quarter was the Eagles best quarter as they finally made a perimeter shot after going the first half with none. The offensive flow started to click and the lead grew to 52-21. The fourth quarter the Eagles took some of the pressure off and ended up beating Grand Rapids Union 65-28. Tevon Vanderkodde, with a big night led the Eagles with 17 points and 20 rebounds. CJ Jones had 9 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assist and 6 steals. The Eagles are now 11-0 and return to action tomorrow at home against Wayland @4:00.

Eagles Win: 66 - 35
The Eagles got off to a quick start in the first quarter. Swarming defense led to a first quarter lead 20-4. Keeping the same full court man to man press, the Eagles were well prepared for the Hawks offensive game plan. The Eagles did a better job this game on the defensive glass. At the half, the Eagle led 33-10. The second half the Eagles opened up the lead some more and didn't allow the Hawks to get into any rhythm. The Eagles brought a collective effort to beat the Hawks 66-35. The Eagles were led by CJ Jones with 14 points and Gabe Vanderwoude with 13. The Eagles return to action Monday in a non conference game against Grand Rapids Union at home on Monday.

Eagles Win: 54 - 52
The Eagles and Pioneers battled hard till the final buzzer. The game went back an worth as nearly team could get in a rhythm. After the first quarter the Eagles led 12-11. The Eagles pressed on the gas pedal in the second quarter as they made some perimeter shots and started to get some defensive rebounds that led to some easy baskets. At half the Eagles pushed their lead to 17 points. The third was a back and forth quarter where no team made any ground. The Eagles struggled all night on the defensive backboards and it cost the Eagles in fourth quarter. They allowed the Pioneers back in the game. The Eagles made enough plays down the stretch to pull out a 54-52 victory. The Eagles were led by Brandon Schepel with 15 points off 5 three's and CJ Jones with 13 points. The next game for the Eagles is Friday at Forest Hills Eastern @ 4pm.

Eagles Win: 79 - 57
GR Christian JV Basketball hosted Wyoming High School Thursday night. The Eagles came out ready to play after there performance on Tuesday. Defensively, the Eagles executed the game plan by shutting down Wyoming's dribble drive offense. The Eagle got their transition game going early and led after one 21-10. The Eagles stay locked in on the defensive end and doubled their lead at the half 43-22. The third quarter, the Eagles were playing their best ball together as a team. The Eagles were winning 64-34 after three quarters. In the fourth, the Eagles took some of the pressure off and finished the contest 79-57. Delon McCloud led the Eagles with 19 points. CJ Jones and Brandon Schepel added 16 points apiece. The Eagles are 2-0 in conference and 8-0 overall. They return to action next Tuesday at East Grand Rapids High School @4:00pm.

Eagles Win: 64 - 41
The Eagles returned to action against Thornapple-Kellogg High School after a week off. The first quarter the Eagles struggled to fine their offensive rhythm. The Eagles scored off of their defense from applying full court pressure. After one the Eagles led 17-8. The second quarter it was a defensive battle from both teams as both teams struggled to score. At the break, the Eagles led 29 to 15 over Thornapple-Kellogg. The third quarter, the Eagles gave up 6 points as they still applied full court pressure. The fourth quarter was the Eagles best quarter offensively as their uptempo game finally started clicking. The Eagles pulled out the win 64-41. The Eagles were led in scoring by CJ Jones with 19 points. Delon McCloud added 14 and Brandon Schepel added 11. Grand Rapids Christian returns to action on Thursday at home against Wyoming @7pm.

Eagles Win: 62 - 55
Grand Rapids Christian JV Boys Basketball team faced a tough Rockford Rams team. The Eagles got off to a slow start and trailed by 6 early in the first quarter. The Eagles started getting some defensive stops and started converting on the offensive end mid way through the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter The Eagles were up 19-17. The second quarter the Eagles settled in and starting getting there offense clicking. At the half Grand Rapids Christian led 37-28. Grand Rapids Christian best quarter was the third as the Eagle broke open the game with 3's defensive stops. The Eagles let the Rams back in the game in the fourth quarter by turning the ball over and giving up 3's. Grand Rapids Christian didn't play there best but was able to pull off the victory over the Rams 62-55. The Eagles had a balance attack on the offensive end. Delon McCloud led the Eagles with 15 points. Brand Schepel and CJ Jones added 13 apiece. The JV Team returns to action as conference play start January 14th at Thornapple-Kellogg.

The Eagles got off to there best start of the year offensively and defensively. Defensively the Eagles followed the game plan. On the offensive end the ball movement and perimeter shooting was excellent early, The Eagles led 30-0 after the first quarter. After the first quarter the Eagles took off the full court press and just applied pressure in the half court. The Eagles cruised to a victory 69-36 over Reeths Puffer. The Eagles had a balance scoring game this afternoon with CJ Jones, Amir Nixon, and Gabe Vanderwoude with 10 points. GRC JV Boys are 5-0 on the season and return to action next Friday at Rockford @2:30PM.

Eagles Win: 52 - 29
The Eagles put worth there best defensive performance holding Holland Christian to two points the first quarter and 8 total for the first half. Some early foul trouble slowed the Eagles down the first half on the offensive end and shooting 1 for 13 from the three as well contributed to only scoring 23 points in the first half. The Eagles continued the defensive performance the second half and stuck to the game plan of pressuring the ball and fronting the bigs in the post. Grand Rapids Christian finally got some perimeter shots to fall and pulled away in the second half winning 52-29. The Eagles had a balance attack with CJ Jones with 11 points, Brandon Schepel and Tevon Vanderkodde added 8 points. The next game for the Eagles is the 27th at Reeths-Puffer @ 11:30am.

Eagles Win: 75 - 59
In the first home game of the season, the JV Boys Basketball Team played in the All City Gym where they finally got off to a great start on the offensive side of the ball. Catholic Central game plan was not let Brandon Schepel get any open looks.The Eagles stuck to the game plan of playing uptempo but at the same moving the basketball around. Defensively, the Eagles were locked in from the start and contained high effort level the entire game. The Eagles never trailed in the game and pulled away with a score of 75-59. Delon McCloud led the Eagles with 21 points and CJ Jones added 13. The Eagles return to action Friday as they travel to Holland Christian.

Eagles Win: 92 - 39
The Eagles went on the road to play the NorthPointe Christian Mustangs. GRCHS JV Boys Basketball team got off to a face pace start on the offensive end and applied pressured full court on the defensive side of the ball. The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and lead 28-14 after one. The defensive pressure continued the rest of the game. The Eagles got hot from behind the arc and continued to extend there lead to go up at the half 53-29. The second half the started off great for the Eagles as they got hot from behind the arc. The continued pressure and having a great flow on the offensive end allowed the Eagles to extend the lead the second half. The Eagles defeated the Mustangs 92-39. Brandon Schepel led the offensive attack with 30 points and 8 3's. Amir Nixon came off the bench and added 19 points. CJ Jones and Delon McCloud both added 13 points as well. Eagles return to action this upcoming Tuesday at home against Grand Rapids Catholic Central.

Eagles Win: 93 - 56
Grand Rapids Christian JV Boys Basketball tipped off there 2019/2020 season on the road at Zeeland East. The Eagles got off to a slow start on the offensive end and the defensive end, which was expected being the first game of the year. The Chix took it to the Eagles in the beginning stages of the first quarter and took the lead briefly. The Eagles finally stepped on the gas pedal and picked up the pressure. After one The Eagles led 24-18. The Eagles got the game into an uptempo fashion. Shots started to fall for the Eagles, and started to cruise after halftime. Brandon Schepel paced the Eagles with 18 points. Nick Cassiday added 15 points and double digit assist as well. The final score was 93-56. GRCHS JV will travel to NorthPointe Christian on Friday for 4:00pm tip. Go Eagles
